Oh, you're definitely paying sales tax. Mine was invoiced as such. We shouldn't need to pay extra import duties, however, is what I was saying. The CDN cost should be the $575+sales tax+$29.99 courier fee, plus conversion rate on Aug. 31st.

I alluded earlier in the thread that most of the bellyaching surrounding this can be likened to the five stages of grief. These people aren't going to be able to own Unicron, so they mourn their misfortune as such. The standard vitriol groups under either Anger or Denial. This would be Bargaining.

Here's hoping that five-and-a-half thousand people are going to look at this and say “Wait, Unicron has a removable face? This changes everything. Sign me up!"

I doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

I certainly don't think this as-is is a Titan class, but I think a lot of the core design shrunken down and heavy hollowed out could serve as a functional basis for one. Not a one for one downscale, of course, but I do think a $200 titan class could achieve the category of "bigger than normal decently accurate unicron toy." If anything, Hasbro knows at least 2500 people are willing to pay $600 for a big Unicron, so it's probably a safe assumption more people are probably willing to pay $200 for a heavily cannibalized and simplified iteration of the same design principles. At least, they were willing to take that bet with people wanting a $160 big Predaking, Trypticon, and Omega Supreme.

Of course, this would all be at the cost of the powerhouse solidity this piece seems to have, as well as the size, intricacy of some of the parts (like the mouth gimmick and articulated hands), and probably paint. It's also with the hopeful assumption Hasbro wouldn't take this crowdfund failing as "people don't want Unicron."

If you hollowed it out, though, I don't think it could turn into an actual sphere. Most of the reason for the lack of hollowness is to store the outer spherical shell pieces. If you tried to simplify it, it would just turn into a bigger Armada Unicron, which wouldn't be enough of an improvement upon Armada Unicron itself to justify its existence as an official product.

I'm sorry if I don't follow, how do you mean the lack of hollowness is to store the outer shell?

If you look at the transformation of the legs, for example, a ton of the outer spherical shell is folded up and shoved into the shins. If you hollowed out that shin, what happens is a ton of the outer spherical planet shell is just gone.

It is? I thought the majority of the shell collapsed into a fairly compressed panel that just hung out on the side of the leg. I could be mistaken, though.

not even halfway there and 16 days left? I'd be sad to see such an impressive and intimidating figure get thrown to the wayside because enough people didn't back it. but, should it fail, I think Hasbro can learn a lesson from this. the lesson is...uh...what I'm saying is, and I'm not implying this is the case in this situation, but if you design a figure and charge $575 for it, but if in the situation of the consumer, wouldn't feel comfortable spending that money, what does that say about what you made? maybe lower the prices Hasbro. Put yourselves in the shoes of the consumer once in a while

Or, at least, try to make a product that's more feasible for people to buy. I think this is an impressive piece and not badly priced, but sometimes I think that doesn't matter if so few people are willing to purchase it.

Once again: Jabba's Sail Barge was sitting at around 3000 for weeks, until it suddenly got over 5000 more backers in the last less than a week. We are only at over 2300, but we also have multiple other retailers, including several overseas ones, taking pre-orders as well that count towards the total, which the Sail Barge did not have, so it will probably make it.

Didn't that only need 5000, though? I understand what you're saying but I think it was much closer to being fulfilled by this point than Unicron is, and with the whole recognition of Star Wars being something I still think is important.

I'm pretty sure that the pincers on his head are not the same as the ones in the planet, because otherwise, the mouth wouldn't work in relation to them.

and there's a limit to how many times you can fold the panels because each one needs a hinge and those take up valuable space exponentially...

The video of the transformation show them not to be. Plus, you can see them hanging off his back in bot mode.

I was slightly mistaken in how I said it, a lot of the shell actually ends up folded up on the side and back of the shin filling out the shape, but I still think if you hollow out the leg, even if you avoid hollowing out the actual folded-up planet shell, you lose a lot of the structure inside that's holding up the massive weight, and yes you will also be reducing the weight at the same time, but probably not enough to still be supported by the now hollowed-out leg.
Hmm, true, but it still demonstrates that there's always a trend with crowdfund projects where it gets a huge rush of backers towards the end, and this project has a lot more avenues of order than the Sail Barge did, plus is open to other countries through some of those avenues when the Sail Barge wasn't iirc.
