My orders all still say preparing to ship. Guess we'll see if we start getting cancellation emails in the day. Would NOT like to be on their ecommerce team today!  

 

Well, someone found out and took advantage, there are people in this reddit thread that ordered $600 or $800 worth of stuff:

Supposedly some of their orders are being cancelled already, but some "in store pickup" ones have gone through.

I guess it matters how closely they look at orders and what they decide to cancel. We'll see!

 

I don't think it would work for store pickup orders - unless they've recently changed their system, all an "in-store pickup" order is at Gamestop is sending an email to the store asking them to hold the item. You pay whatever the item rings up at in-store when you pick it up.

 

Slight update: mine says "preparing to ship" now, and upon looking closer at the reddit thread, all the cancelations were instore pickup. Again, we'll see...

 

I'm sure they'll cancel them all but maybe a few will slip through before the email gets read. I bought a few switch games for when I finally get a Switch for Christmas.

 

So, now all but the first 2 items I ordered have gone from "Preparing for Shipment" to "Awaiting product availability." Maybe GameStop is marking the ordered items as not available to prevent them from being shipped? Not sure.

 

My order just switched to verifying item stock first, which totally means they've probably paused all orders and are checking them all individually.

My order was only a slightly common game stuff, so I really doubt it's actually low in-stock.

And I tried to edit my order with the mistake and it requires me to re-enter my credit card, which then says the credit card is invalid. Either the site is still buggy or they're trying to shut everything down until stuff can be sorted out.

 

Considering how GameStop handles their business, I'm not surprised this happened. I certainly wouldn't use 'em for a pre-order after all I've seen. Heck, I couldn't even go and buy an "in-stock" item because it was actually an item someone preordered (mind you they're supposed to come within days of it arriving at the store, otherwise the money is refunded and the item is made available for sale again...) and it went on this way for two weeks.

Two.

"We have it, yes, but we can't sell it to you."

Do you have any idea how infuriating that is when you know the policy and they've confirmed it to you? This isn't like Walmart or Target in which they have millions upon millions of dollars in stock in the back, this is GameStop and it's an exclusive and they have it, the person violated the agreement and they still wouldn't sell it. I think my insides melted down like a nuclear reactor full of awful.

 

Same here, Ectotron is still awaiting shipping but the games I ordered are "awaiting stock" have a feeling they'll be awaiting that stock for many years, lol.

 

I've had that happen to me, but I've also had my pre-order sold to someone else because the guy was friends with the manager. There's a reason my online account had the wrong address in it, I avoid doing business with them whenever possible.

 

Oh, man. That sucks, I'm so sorry. I see both sides of it, especially your side of it, I'm just saying, the policy is roughly 3-5 days for pickup or it's returned to the sales floor/sent back to the .com and the person's money is returned/refunded. When we're pushing the two weeks mark, I'd say the person's basically forfeited their "ownership" of said item.

I don't know about you, but barring something horrible (which can and does happen, and to that, I'm sorry) most people RACE to the store to pick up their pre-order(s). That's part of the reason to do just that, you're securing the item you wanted. I'll never understand why people just let them sit and sit. Til the weekend? Sure. Two friggin' weeks? No. It's not POL @ BBTS, it's GameStop. lol

I will say they did give me a good deal towards my Xbox One S and original Xbox One so I could trade-in for the One X. I paid like $185 (tax included) on the difference. It's odd how they'll be helpful in certain situations, but absolutely insane and disrespectful in others.

I don't think you missed anything other than vain hope - all my orders (and, from the sound of it, everybody else's) have been changed to "Awaiting product availability" so that they won't ship. Gamestop probably just did that to all orders made last night to freeze them while they inspect individual orders and make cancellations.

One rumor floating around is that you'll get a $10 coupon when you get your order cancelled, but that's from one guy claiming to have talked to a customer service person on the phone.

 

Mine was just cancelled a few minutes ago and they sent me an email with a $10 coupon code. I would expect everyone (or at least everyone who didn't order $500 worth of stuff) will get a coupon code.

 

Non-Gamestop related- my local Walmart discounted the G1 Optimus reissue to $13; Minibots are $2...

 

Just got cancellation emails for 2 of my orders (though oddly, they still show as "Awaiting product availability" on my account). Got a $10 coupon for each one.

 

Yeah I just got my first one too . Now I wonder if we can stack these, lol!

 

Yeah I got $10 coupons for two of my cancelled orders. Better than nothing.

Still haven’t received a cancellation for my Ectotron order though...
