Actually, they lost $100 million. And that is in addition to the loss of their investor for the next 4 years. They were having a very bad year overall, but TLK was the final nail in the coffin.

A life action tv series is quite a bad idea imo. Think about how much actual screen time the tfs have in movies. Then think about how much screen tie the cgi characters had per episode/series of game of thrones. Is the 5 full minutes of screen time for the dragons in season8? Did the wolf have a minute?

An agents of shield style “set in a universe with transformers who we never really see?” That’s plausible. A series where tfs are in it...not iiiiimpossibke but the budget would be enormous. That series having full tfs as mains? Not a chance. It’s not monetarily feasible. It’s just not.

Yeah. I’d be fine if that would be used for GIJoe or something. M.A.S.K. could be cool actually.

Humans are never the problem. It always comes down to the writing. I finally sat down to watch Cyberverse last night. 4 episodes in, no humans, brain cells dying...(radio voice BB is getting old VERY fast - Hasbro needs to outright kill that off going forward).

    Live action TV?

Can we just focus on the quality of efforts already underway? Instead of spreading into different (and questionable) media formats?

Focus on next year's WfC on Netflix, Hasbro. Make it better than the new Voltron and put Transformers at the level it deserves. And in terms of live action, let's stick with a 'Star Wars' franchise ideal, not a 'Star Trek' one (no offense to ST fans).

(Fast forward to summer of 2020; reluctantly watching "Machinima part 4")

A live action Transformers series could work, provided that it follows a key concept that the bay films absolutely ignored:

The robot aliens in alt. Mode are NOT just cars, they're still robot aliens underneath the exterior.

Ultimately, the problem with presence that comes from CGI robots here CAN BE SOLVED by recognizing the characters are still on screen as the vehicles. Have the cars talk, have them pull the Satan's Camaro thing from the first thing where Sam's car looked possessed (to Sam).

The critical aspect of an alt. Mode is that it's more than a disguise - it should be an extension of the robot such that the audience can tell who is disguised as what. IE G1 Trailbreaker was a super durable character who suffered crappy fuel efficiency- a Toyota Hilux was perfect (it is the vehicle that Top Gear tried to destroy with a wrecking ball, high tide submersion, and litterally imploding a building under it and it did not die). Alt modes that fit colorful, unique characters are better than simply making them all look like cookie cutter supercars.

It's all about presence here. Having the robots is not as important as having the characters feel present even if it boils down to people talking to cars (which is a thing people do anyway)

If done right, that could be awesome. All cartoons would work too.

I agree. I'm a G1 fan but I never had a problem with the humans in the original cartoon show, as cheesy as it was. Sure they got in trouble and needed help all the time but they weren't....stupid. That's the problem lately. They come off as "I'm acting like I think I'm serious to myself but really I'm stupid to the point of silly" for the sake of comedy. It was ok in the first movie but then it got old really fast to the point it was eye rolling bad. Some serious, common sense style humans would be just fine, they're just badly written.

To be honest I’m more happy for this merger on the Star Trek side of things than TF.

How the heck are you gonna pull off a live action series with a tv-show budget?

I don’t think it’s strictly for the sake of comedy.

    It’s screenwriter groupthink.

The humans have to learn something and/or be changed by the Transformers to justify the Transformers existing in their story.

That’s resolved if you treat the Transformers as people and as the primary protagonists and the humans as their sidekicks. Instead, the question then becomes how our effectively human Transformers can learn from interacting with strange, fragile little alien creatures from that strange planet known as Earth. The humans are just Doozers to the Transformers’ Fraggles.

I see what you're getting at. My issue is it's usually written (the movies to be specific) that the Transformers aren't exceptionally bright...they're just average like you and me (which is fine). Then the humans come in and they're scientists, military officers or whatever....and they're gullible and dumb to the point it's like they're 4 years old. That's the issue I have.
