Cool feature but still it’s rather small displayed in its own..I’m glad for the feature nonetheless. Neat seeing the eyes behind behind the visor, like that one episode with starscream going around stealing eyes from city bots for unicron.

That response wasn't so much directed at you, your post was included because it covered more details including why a direct comparison didn't really work.
At one time that was said about GI Joe too, and look where we are. The people thinking there's going to be another (better) release for it's 50th Anniversary are REALLY overestimating how popular TFs are likely to be in another 15 years.

If you placed the order through Pulse then there should not have been a "duty" charge.

    $574.99 USD for Unicron
$29.99 USD for shipping (we don't get free shipping like our American friends)
    plus PST and GST.

    No duty.

99.99% certain Unicron would ship from the Hasbro warehouse just outside of Montreal. That is where Canadians DID get their Sail Barge from.

I'm in Quebec and my total was $695.58 USD with taxes and shipping. Granted that translates into over $900 CAD *LOL*

I’m still on the fence about this guy. He looks good but not sure where 8 would put him. I may just resell but worried that if Zeta has a great Unicron it may guy the resale price of this one. What do you all think?

another possibility would be to have the figure packaged in parts in order to optimize space, and simply having the user do some final assembly when first opened - similar to how the US version of Generations Metroplex was shipped with 1 arm detached, which just needed to be snapped on... :)

Huh, I know it's just a fun bonus but I really wouldn't mind a way to nab this separately. Especially since doing it would render the robot mode sort of useless.

If planet mode is 30" in diameter, it can't fit in a box only 22/23" long.

Or is it 30" in diameter with the rings attached? I thought they said it was just the planet by itself that was 30".

Faceless Unicron is terrifying, and I love it. (also interesting how at SDCC warden said the head wasn't removable. Looks like they figured out a way to change that in a short amount of time.)

The ring comes off. The planet mode without the ring is 16.8"

Oh boy. You have some creative analogies. You're right, when I think manufacturing costs, I don't even consider the number of pieces of flair an employee wears.

Well, that's not true... "flair" is considered "mutilation risks" here.

Anyway, Hasbro set the target at 8000 units and $575 a piece. Neither of those numbers were decided by a roll of the dice or a headless chicken landing in a square. Some one or some team at Hasbro did plenty of math to decide that they were good with those two numbers and the resulting sum of money from them.

    8000+ units sold = success

The separating head was an expected feature, yet this somehow still surprises me in all good ways! So creepy!

The 30" includes the rings, I think. So you might be able to compact the way those are packed a little.

Who would you sell it to? Looking like it's going to be tight getting 8K backers at 575$. Despite what anyone here says, it's likely that your assumption is correct, competition over the next year and a half will drive down the value. If you really want it certainly back it, but if you're already contemplating selling it before it's even funded? I think you know the answer.

Yeah, I was just looking into it and I think you're right (edited my post just moments ago). Looking at the video, that sure doesn't look like 30". I did think they had said it was 30" without the rings, though, but I must have misread that.

I heard that from a lot of guys at the Vince DiCola SDCC after-show. She has a larger collection than I do, so it was always more likely she would be a backer then me.

If this official trailer had more cow bell, it would have surpassed the 8k backers instantly.
