Maybe Unicron is a microcosm for the state of the toy industry today.

Sure, there are folks who can afford it.

But the toy industry wasn't "for those who can afford it" back in the 80s.

Just my opinion. If someone threw a $600 check at me, I'm still not sure this project would be worth funding. I'm too concerned that the success of this project would mean more amazing products at high prices that most of us can't afford.

Apple, I mean, Hasbro should consider commoners more. Like when Apple made the iPhone 5c.

An orange or red version of this, at a lower price, would be perfect: rich TF fans could still be proud of their purchases and snub their noses at all those poor, red-Unicron owners! And poor people, meanwhile, would get to experience what an iPhone, I mean, new Unicron (with today's advanced engineering) is like!

Again, it's not that Hasbro needs this to provide funding, they need to have guaranteed sales before they commit to this level of investment.

No. Super-large, super-expensive toys were around back in the 80s, too, and they were released with much more frequency than they are today. None of the toys shown below were things that were within my parents' budget. We were not well off by any means and there was a lot of stuff I wanted that we couldn't afford, but thankfully my parents had their priorities straight and didn't cave to the whims of a whiny, toy-obsessed kid.

Even though I couldn't have them, I didn't go around wishing that things like the Terror Drome or Fort Max didn't exist, and I wasn't concerned that toy companies were continuing to make stuff I couldn't afford. Why would I be concerned? If I can't have it, nobody can?

I thought that these large toys/playsets were amazing and I was happy they existed. And when I could play with them at friends' houses, that was a sweet thing.

That sense of wonder--that sense of, Holy Shit, I can't believe they made that--that seems to have been lost for some people. And that's part of what makes toys so fun.

Our hobby doesn't suffer when/if ambitious things like this Unicron are made. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Well clearly history shows the best way to do it is make everyone poor, and boom, no one can have it, and you're happy. That's what the guy with a fancy mustache said anyway.

Also, dang it man, you brought back some nostalgic tingles with those pics...

Backer #2380... I think if we hit 3000 backers before the last week we'll rocket to 8000 based on Barge data. I don't want just any Unicron ...I want this Unicron!!

Well said......... I agree with everything you say. if those playsets in the 80's hadnt been made due to people's jealousy they couldnt get them........ well then I wouldnt of been able to see those awesome toys and now own them as an adult collector.

If someone is angry this is 600$.......... that means they want it....... I dont get why they'd not want it being made because maybe some day they could afford to pick it up on ebay or somewhere... if it doesnt get made then you can never own it.

Over 5000, reportedly. Numbers stayed around 3000 until the final days, and then suddenly blew up at the 11th hour.

Can't find the original post, in this thread, about the barge data because it's several pages back. But I recall the calculation being 1.85x increase in the last 6 days. It amounted to about 5000 backers.

Indeed. There's way too much hand ringing and sweating the numbers over this, which until the dust settles and the campaign ends only amounts to a whole lotta nothing.

Given that it's the middle of summer, I think it would do some good if some of these people would just walk away from the keyboard for awhile to go outside to try and get some fresh air.

I don't know where you are, but it's 97 degrees outside here, and humidity exceeds 50%. If I walk outside for about 3 minutes, then turn around and walk back in, I'll be drenched in sweat and dehydrated.

I have to agree with others when they say they enjoy how the grey prototype looks. It’s a great way to see all the fine detail.

I’m excited and nervous for the end of the month but I’ve got MP-44 to distract me, so that’ll soften the blow if target isn’t met heheh.

Ah, but we only need 0.184 backers/minute on average over the remaining minutes.

Every one of these except Flagg and FortMax made it to our BigLots in the late 80s for pennies on the dollar.

I STILL have the Terror-drome. Never had the Flagg (it's WAY too small, frankly) and I got rid of my Defiant's - decided it didn't fit into "my" Joe enough to justify the space. All of those I acquired as an adult on eBay.
That's not happening with this one, lol.

As a teenage, I bought two Flaggs at Woolworths for $30 each, also bought three Jetfires for $18 each. I also bought two Defiants at a store called Conway still in its original shipping box for $50 each around the same time (94/95).
