First off, apologies for the lack of photos (and the lack of editing of said photos!), I was expecting there to already be a thread for this one!




Got it yesterday from Kapow Toys in the UK and despite the very obvious flaw of the trailer/jetpack and weapons being nearly all bare plastic its a really great package and a lot of fun to mess around with.





The trailer and jetpack are both very easy to transform and once you've gone through the modes and seen where the weapons go in trailer mode you can bin the instructions. The trailer is very well made and holds together well in trailer mode, even without the roof (the jetpack) attached.






In weapon ring mode it can take a little bit of fiddling to get the rubbery arc parts to fit just right and you need to make sure the 'feet' that are attached to the insides of the trailer doors are firmly plugged into the base plate but once done it stands up nicely and you can attach/remove the weapons to your hearts content without worrying about it collapsing.


The jetpack is not so good, the wings are weirdly hollow, I would have preferred they made them from a thinner solid piece with detail on both sides but oh well. Also some of the joints in the jetpack are a bit weak. It does attach to prime nicely and you can put it on in truck mode too for a look reminiscent of Scaramangas flying car from the man with the golden gun lol.



The weapons are mostly fine, the shield looks very small on prime and doesn't attach well as it only has a single standard peg so you have to jam it in firmly so the arm bonnet kibble doesn't push it out again.



Prime himself is the same mould already released in this line and can be combined with leader jetfire, he has the more mechanical looking abs from DotM and slightly different flames. I don't have my previous version to hand at the moment to directly compare.



Overall this is a great package, I was thrilled when they announced it and I'm happy to say that it lived up to my expectations.

 

So glad I passed on the 2.0 Voyager.

 

Good pictures, but I’m not impressed with this at all. Maybe it’s the lighting, but the flames on Prime look like primary yellow, when they should be more orange than anything. They tried to do too much with the trailer, and none of the three modes actually look good. The multiple panels along the side ruin the look of the trailer. The weapons ring is supposed to be just that... a ring. The jet pack looks cheap and hollow. This is definitely less of a display piece and more of a toy.

 

I just don't think the twenty dollar left over budget after using SS-32 was enough to do the trailer justice. It looks like they got 75% of the way there and said pencils down, we are shipping what we got. It's a shame, but exactly why I canceled my pre-order. Maybe a third party will offer just a trailer in the $50 dollar price range.

 

I'm fine with it. I'm glad it's done. And it's in scale with SS as a whole, for the most part, so yeah.

 

Can bumblebee optimus tow the trailer?

 

Thanks for the review @Fort Max 1st time I've seen the jetwings on this in truck mode! I skipped SS32 for this, wish it had more paint and wish the damn windows were translucent! I see you Hasbro with SS32 with clear windows...sonova!!!!

I'm surprised the wings are hollow too.

A lot of my recent stuff is in storage due to a forthcoming house move I'm afraid but if it has a 5mm trailer hitch then it can probably fit.

 

I don't have him in hand, 44 that is, but 38 does have a 5mm hitch, so as long as there's enough clearance he should be able to pull it just fine.

 

seems I must figure out the answer myself. The hitch on most modern optimus prime is always 5mm so that is normally a given. The clearance and height is needed

 

I don't like that the main figure is a downgrade from SS32. The paint is worse and the painted windows are terrible.

Why they went and spent the cash changing the figure, instead of just releasing SS32 with a trailer is beyond me.

 

I love the trailer and weapon ring but the wing pack itself doesn't look too good. Wish it looked more like the artwork in the box.

 

The painted window is terrible. If theyre trying to save each drop of paint they could have put some of that budget on a real pair of wheels. I cant unsee the unevenness of the molded on wheels. Can we see pics of them i want to see if they can be sawed off and connect somewhere with a pin? The hollowness of the jetpack looks unfinished. It looks like what a cheap ko company would have made years ago and now the tables have flipped. If the price goes down to $30 i will buy but not for the full retail

 

I can’t get into this Prime mold. Feel like it has some budgetary constraints that keep it from being great. Same thing seems to be going on with the trailer.

That said, this looks like it would make for a heck of a play object. A Prime with a transforming trailer and a boatload of weapons? Be a great gift for the younglings.

 

Looks like the studio V2 is the winner in a comparison.

The trailer looks ok...but overall, the execution of a weapon ring looks small and cheap.

The jetpack? Man...the wings should have been 4 parts with molded detail on both sides. That's just cheap. They saved a few bucks re-releasing that Voyager mold...I feel the trailer and wing should have been BADDASS...

I have the UFO annular trailer with my movie MP display. I'm good there. Dont need this that's for sure
