As others said, he wasn't too bad in the first movie. He had a decent character arc and managed to step up in the end. Although Mikaela was infinitely more badass and better. "I drive, you shoot!" And after that, he massively devolved. "This isn't my war!" Yes, it is. When you stuck the Allspark into Megatron's chest, you made it your war!
Actually yeah, splitting the human action between Ironhide and the Lennox family and Maggie and Glen would have been brilliant.
Actually, that would explain away his problems but that isn't the case. He's a spaz, yes, but privileged? Sort of. Yes, they live in a nice house/community, but his dad reminds him it's HIS house, HIS lawn, etc. He taunts him, he's a cheapass as his wife puts it. He's not just cheap with money, he's cheap as a father. Mom's drunk half the time, dad's more or less right there with her, and a pu$$y whipped yesman who takes out his weaknesses on his son. He's a spaz because he's a nervous kid thrust into an intergalactic war, he's a horrible person because his parents are horrible, and the privilege just gets him through the door and allows him to skate by at the very edge. Dad was almost redeemed in ROTF when he saw and understood what really was at stake and that Sam really did have something of value to contribute to the battle and the world at large, but it was undone by DOTM and they were back to being stupid, so screw 'em. Sam's just a badly conceived character, period. The parents even more so.
I've been saying that since 2007. Maggie and Glen could have done the Autobot contact angle of the movie: Barricade hunts them down, only for the Autobots to intervene. From there, we proceed with the movie. Maggie and Glen even have reasons to be involved with the sequels, as NEST's computer analysts.
The two scenes I hated the most that turned me off from the character occurred in Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon...in ROTF it made no sense to me that he starts screaming for Bumblebee to save him and his family from all those little "appliance-bots", then immediately starts fussing at him for exposing himself and to get back into the garage. That was one of the dumbest moments to me in all of the films... The second scene was in DOTM, where he and Carly are trying to get into the N.E.S.T. facility, and Sam just starts screaming like an idiot when the guards try to apprehend them and their car. Otherwise, I enjoyed the character, for the most part...but those two scenes were just so stupid in my opinion, and I don't often use that word... (lol)
sam was fine ..... Bruce Bravos , Merlin , Joshua Joyce , Leo , most of the military , Sir Edmund Burton and Vivian Wembley's family were not .
Are you kidding? I want a tv series that is all Bruce Bravos and his company. And, yes, get Sam back in there too.
Initially he did try to avoid it in ROTF, but that is part of the evolution of the hero. Like many other heroes, he just wants to go back to being normal and deny his destiny but his journey makes him realize that he can't go back to being who he was. With Sam it's Optimus' death. By the third movie, he not only has accepted but can't go back to being normal.
The first one was on last night and he's irritating. Some of the other human characters are just as bad. His parents are obnoxious. They were like every other stereotype of what a parent is supposed to be like. Agent Simmons is over the top and ridiculous. This is pretty much par for the course for some of the human characters in the series. One thing can be said is that at least Sam shows growth by the end of the third movie.
I didn’t hate him, up until the third movie where they completely inversed his character motivations and made him an insufferable asshole. Movie 1 and 2? Can see why he would get on people’s nerves but I thought he was fine. Quick, pitch this show somewhere fast! Would be hilarious, especially if the show has zero Transformers refences.
