Takara hasn’t even offered any more info on that armada prime. If anything hasbro will probably import it through pulse like star convoy and the seacons

Yeah, but I think it'd still be a better idea to give it a retail release.
Yeah an MP may happen, but I expect it to outweigh MP-44 price-wise if it does.

This would imply that Hasbro moves away from G1 from the mainline, and they don't do that.

I'm perfectly happy with my TE-01 personally :p  and who knows, maybe MB-15 will scratch the itch. Not gonna get too excited until we see more though.

In order for Hasbro to “default to G1 after changing it up a bit” they would actually have to change it up a bit, if that makes sense.

Since its revamp back in 2012, with the exception of Fall of Cybertron, the Generations line has pretty much been heavily G1 oriented with some minor non-G1 stuff thrown in here and there. I think what’s galling is that the line is called Generations, and the point of it is to “celebrate the history of the brand”, yet G1 seems to be the only part of the brand that gets celebrated. Sure we get some UT and BW stuff here and there, but at the moment, Hasbro in only drip feeding it to us.

Yeah... callbacks aren't quite the same thing as entirely new molds made specifically for one character. Try again, chief

Honestly I once you get past Armada theres little point in doing "homages". By this time all the figures had bending knees, elbows, and 5 mm pegs to hold any weapon. They display well with CHUG. If all an update offers over the original is waist or wrist swivel, whats the point ? Id rather them stick to making bricks come to life and giving obscure characters their first figure ever.

The last two full length cartoons pre cyberverse were more bay inspired than g1, idw designs from thrilling 30 don’t particularly look g1 for the most part, rescue bots isn’t very g1, there’s plenty of times that hasbro does branch away from g1. They’re just currently in the position of reinforcing the g1 designs as the ones that are most prominent

Nope. Those count. Just because you can’t afford a figure, doesn’t mean they don’t count. If anything, getting a $300 Masterpiece figure should count much more then a standard retail figure.

The last full length cartoons weren't all that Bay inspired, either, beyond Bumblebee in Prime and he dropped that in RiD2015. If anything, Hasbro's intent for Prime was to try and tie it into the WfC/FoC games, which were a re-imagining of G1 first and foremost. IDW designs are still just the G1 characters, with that Armada Starscream toy specifically being a new body for G1 Starscream rather than the UT character. Rescue Bots and its successors are also not on the minds of older fans who would be wanting their era of the franchise to get more recognition, not to mention are not good toys for anyone past that demographic. Hasbro doesn't branch away from G1, they simply occasionally toss in a few nods to other eras among the G1. We've not had them move away from Generation 1 for a LONG time, and that's why people are frustrated and getting fatigued over the same slot of characters.

A lot of the G1 characters have had toys already that would fit into the CHUG standard. New figures means those characters remain on the market, as opposed to having to look on ebay and spending 50-100 bucks to get an older figure of a character you like. Having looked around for Fire Convoy, my options are usually at least 90 bucks minimum for the original toy or go to that Encore set and hope it isn't one with horrible QC issues I heard was notorious for that release. You can update the older, obscure characters while still giving other Generations their time. We've had like 50 Bumblebees and 50 Optimus Primes. Some of those releases could have at the very least been other incarnations of Prime rather than the G1 character AGAIN when he has no shortage of toys across every facet of the franchise.

while the high moon games were intended as a g1 reboot of sorts, prime was not. In fact the games were retconned to connect to prime, not the other way around (and a retcon shouldn’t have been needed since they operated off of the same story bible, but hasbro was short sighted on their oversite of the aligned continuity). It doesn’t matter if older fans disregard stuff like rescue bots, it’s still part of the franchise. And no many idw designs really don’t look much like the characters g1 designs, especially once you get to the Roberts era redesigns. The singular focus on g1 wasn’t really a thing until the last year or so, after rid15 ended

That's honestly not at all reasonable. If someone's arguing for Generations releases, MP does not count. And even then, MP is very spotty with things that aren't G1. If G1 can be represented in Generations, why should anything else have to be limited to MP? And even then, look at how many G1 characters MP got already before it moved into BW characters showing up anyway.

I'm not dismissing facts. I outright pointed out that the only actual Bay inspired element was Bumblebee, and that element was dropped for RID as that general look became the base for BB's default for Generations at the time. That production bible still shows Hasbro went into Prime with the idea of it being able to be treated as the same continuity as the games, which were a retelling of G1. RID also had a few characters like Soundwave and Starscream revert back to being heavily G1 inspired. Rescue Bots being disregarded is more before it's not a line of toys for collectors and for that matter, was never the main cartoon. And if you wanted to argue, the cartoon was the same canon and continuity family as Prime, meaning that once again, Hasbro saw it as part of the G1 retelling, anyway. Generations, as a toyline, has been heavily G1 focused since its inception, and even before then, Classics and Universe were heavily G1 skewing. The IDW designs are still clearly recognizable as the Generation 1 characters. You can make a point that those characters didn't get their G1 bodies until later, but that doesn't change that those designs and toys still were supposed to be those characters, so they still had toy presence.

Generation 1 has been the backbone of most efforts in this franchise for years now, and trying to claim otherwise is honestly ignoring all evidence. As mentioned, the younger generations of kids got into this franchise often enough with the films or other points that don't make them pine for the G1 characters/designs, so Hasbro really doesn't have to stick so hard to them as they do. Sure, there's ones who fully deserve new figures and stuff, but we've had a glut of the same handful of characters as the frontline for so long now that they can afford to mix it up more than they do outside of just a new head and a new colorscheme (much as I adore these colors on this mold).

Though, I will kinda hit a bit of a point with Siege where I can accept that it's kind of a new unifying point in terms of engineering and figure quality, which is one of the things I fully understand the kind of "back to square one" approach with character selection. But it would still be nice if we got more like a new mold or two per wave that represented other eras more regularly rather than, what, two UT shout outs in the entirety of Siege?

I feel once you get past AEC, everything after (except maybe the movies to an extent) is “G1, except for these changes...” when it comes to the characters. I always appreciated the new characters like Bulkhead, Lugnut, Knockout, Strongarm, etc. AEC used a lot of old names for trademark purposes, but they were mostly all-new characters that I feel only added to the overall mythos. So updated toys to those characters greatly interest me. Armada Wheeljack, Demolishor, Armada Cylconus, Energon Landmine, Energon Bulkhead, Energon Ironhide, Cybertron Defense Red Alert, Cybertron Defense Scattorshot, Thunderblast, Flame Convoy, Nitro Convoy, Live Convoy, Megalo Convoy, etc...

You have no idea how badly I want an armada update line with Tidal Wave as the titan. If only so I can recreate this.

Thanks, I needed that laugh today.

This thread sure is full of dumb today.

What's funny is if Hasbro got clever, Plex's "third mode" could be retooled into a pretty badass battleship.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Tidal Wave like that as the Titan after Scorponok. While I focus on G1, I don't mind new characters/revamped characters into a G1-ish/Classics type of look.

But let's not pretend Generations' focus on G1 is based on anything other than a proven sales track record, while the "others" have had mixed results.
I still want those others sprinkled in, though. I don't think they're as tough a sell anymore.
