Forgive me if this is old news, but I just found out that MP Spike can pilot the jet mode...

 

I am sorely tempted to paint the feet now that I've seen this. But I've still gotten nowhere with my plans to paint the face and eyes, so it probably isn't happening anytime soon. LOL Anyway, much better with the solid gray feet. I don't see tap shoes, but the white doesn't add anything visually either. Just clutter. Thanks for sharing the result!

 

And when you do paint the feet, make sure it's semi/gloss paint or at least use a semi gloss clear coat over flat paint, because I had them in flat paint first and that made the feet look way too stumpy with all definition of sculpt lost in the dark gray flat paint.

That or do some panel lining with a slightly contrasting color.

I love this figure. Barely fits on the shelf. Only one it would fit on. But fiddled with it and found a neat feature i did not know about. When you open the hands, the peg hole slides back. When you close it to a fist it comes back. That is just a tiny touch that makes him incredible.

 

Umm....that was one of the main gimmicks advertised when the prototype was revealed.

 

Well i never paid attention or read in depth details of it, so it was a nice surprise for me.

 

It's weird, this looks fine to me minus the head and way the armor attaches. Wish you could plug those little guns into the side of the helmet so it'd look like Jetfire.

 

I am so incredibly overwhelmed with how awesome this figure is... it's practically a few minor steps from being a masterpiece figure in it's own right.

As with any figure, I do have nitpicks:

-those eyes are stone dead. Given the blue piece above the face, I'm astounded they didn't go for blue light piping

-the bottom of the jet mode is basically nothing but kibble. I mean, most transformers jets suffer from this, so its par for the course, but on something this size, it would have been nice to see a better effort (those wrist pegs sticking out of the bottom of the arms are the worst offenders)

-we got ankle tilt which is amazing, but some swivel would have been nicer still.


Minor things that take next to nothing away from what has been my most favorite non-MP figure since G1!

After living with him for a few more days, he really is spectacular. The only things bugging me at this point are the empty area of the backpack in bot mode, the gap at the front of the backpack in jet mode, the underbelly being a complete travesty of jumbled messiness in jet mode, and the eyes being so dead. Well, and the silly gray paint on the legs and nose of the jet.

All things I'll rectify when I get time. Still a terrific mainline figure. Just having him standing on my audio monitor screams out cartoon image to me. Such a great sculpt.

 

You might not have folded up the backpack yet - you can fold up the thrustnozzle part up, so the backpack compacts without gaps

Also, the jetmode underside is pretty much as it was in the cartoon...

 

Has anyone tried out the Toyhax set for Jetfire yet? I'm usually not a big fan of extra sticker sets, they just seem too flashy (I still haven't applied the stickers to Trypticon), but this one makes Jetfire look so much more like the original toy! Thinking about getting it but I wish I could see some better images or a video review.

 

What empty area? Are you referring to the part that pegs into the legs for jet mode?

If so, you can swing that up onto the other half of the backpack and boom, no more emptiness.

 

Actually, funny you should mention that....it’s not that they didn’t add blue light piping, it’s just that it doesn’t work very well without a strong light source:

I really like him, although I kinda hate the antennaless helmet. Copyright problem, I know.
