Spoiler: How-to: Rampage misassembly fix

You'll need experience with rivets/capped pins and these tools:

Step 1: Focus your attention on this side of his body.

You wanna take these two screws out first:


Step 2: Heat up your soldering iron for about 20 minutes or as long as you feel it takes to be completely hot. When you and your iron are ready, heat the head of the rivet for 60-100 seconds on on the side you took the screws out. Don't hit the surrounding silver painted plastic. When your ready....


....Step 3: Pull the screw side off, holding the silver painted joint with your thumb and index finger (the rivet will probably go through the side of the body you are removing, warping will occur but no worries it will regain its shape as it cools), and the rivet will be left in the black joint's post.
Repeat step 3 on the other side and you get this:

Rivets sticking out on both sides of the black joint.
Pull them out one side at a time (after you get the body halves off) with your needlenose pliers while they're warm. Heat them again if you have to.
[At this point keep track of where everything went. Two halves with the arms on them, a mid section with his head/neck in it, a grey wheel segment, and the bulldozer blade.]

Step 4: Rotate the black joint 180° to achieve the intended look.

The half of the body is for reference in this pic, but you do want to start putting everything back together after the joint is facing the right way.
If there was warping in the silver painted red female port where the black part's posts go in, try to use a flathead screwdriver to file the inside back down. It may not need to be filed so do some test fitting without screws or the rivets.
Once you get everything dry-fitted back together like before you took him apart, put the two screws back in first. Then put the rivets in. Start them the best you can, then push them in with the soldering iron until they are back home. Let it all cool for five to ten minutes to be safe.


With luck, you should get the same result I did. I wish I had more pics to help explain better. Once you get started it should make sense as you go. Just take time when you test fit so it goes back together perfectly. Hope this helps.

Was this a wide QC issue, or did it only affect some copies??

Forgive my ignorance, but I have NO idea as to what your fixing on your copy. Mine seems fine, do I guess I'm just trying to figure out if there's something I should be fixing on it.

 

debated so hard on whether or not to go after Devastator...my decision was made

Theres a black joint that's backwards in most copies, with the bot detail showing in vehicle mode, and the vehicle detail in bot mode. I took Rampage apart, flipped it, and now it looks the way it did in the promos. Check him in dozer mode, you'll see it.

Sigh, the Demand for Studio Series Devcon. Yet he's a minor character to be known. However, Hightower and Overload never revealed their robot modes and look now. So anything is possible.

 

Yeah, I mean eventually they'll reach an end to the named characters and may consider releasing more of the background grunts. And I'd be all for it  


As an aside I've apparently been registered in this site for exactly 2 years now, wow time sure flies

No way! Gotta see it. It would be the first one I've seen with a proper belly from factory. Mine drove me nuts til I flipped it. Especially in vehicle mode.

Well shit, nevermind. I thought it was good, so I just took a better look at it, and it is on wrong lol.

It doesn't bother me too much though, since I just want these to form Devy. Once I have them all, they'll be displayed in combined mode.

 

There's some differences so far from the prototype Devastator pics to the current figures we have. They had planned some type of cable system to go on the left arm that would connect Hightower to Scrapmetal, but we ended up with no cables instead. Hightower looks quite different in general.
