You are clearly overthinking this. Yes, he clearly means dubbed. What else would he mean?

US movies are US movies... so...

A US Cartoon would imply it is an animated series or movie created and funded by a studio based in the US, and all proceeds and salaries remained within the continental US.

An "english dub" of a Japanese anime would actually be the specific description the OP was most likely intending.

Not confusing at all - in all honesty, the OP could have been refering to the entire story arc being redone from the ground up by a US company...

Or he could have been implying a US rerelease at your local walmart by shout factory with an English speaking target audience...

Who knows... but saying "US Cartoon" clearly needed more clarification, as we all know none of the transformers cartoons/anime are from the US.

    :2c:

Semantics... that, and the fact that proper vocabulary and punctuation are completely lost in this new generation of... graduates?:banghead:

But I digress - the only logical implication was "English dub".

I dunno. That’s a bit weird to want something “made into a US cartoon”. Like think about it. Doesn’t make much sense. Clarity is important.

Oh, I wasn’t saying there weren’t other possibilities, but as you said yourself there is one conclusion that is clearly the most likely. Thus overthinking it.

Maybe the guy isn't fluent with English. So I think I will give him a pass and deduct that he meant for it to be dubbed in English.
However BW2 is vastly different from BW and it has a totally anime Japanese oriented feel to it. Likewise with Headmasters. Making it less compatible with G1 and BW which is oriented towards a western audience. Meaning to say that most people would be disappointed with the outcome. You would be looking at two totally different stories even if they use the same characters.

Perhaps give it a new "westernized" name to differentiate it from Beast Wars. Didn't Car Robots do well in spite of no connectivity to G1?

Although it is oddly connected to the comedic version that is the Japanese BW Dub.

    Just a thought...

If the guy wasn't fluent in English...

Why would he want it to be a "US cartoon", or English dubbed version?

    Carry on.

English is the lingua franca for most people in the world, Japanese is not. Also people in most of the world are more used to hearing English for transformers. Thus a familiar sound. Also having a cartoon translated from English into your native language "in terms of subs" is much more common than from Japanese. I think any of these reasons is reason enough to warrant someone wanting a "English dub".

That makes no sense compared to your first assumption of English not being his/her first language.

Especially if it were a request for "subtitles" in their native language and having "English dub" as the prefered voice-over.

Please stop - debunuking is a hobby of mine. ;)

    Macross/Southern Cross/Mospeada vs Robotech
    GoLion/Dairugger vs Voltron
    Super Sentai vs Power Rangers
    Car Robots vs RiD 2001
Saying you want a Japanese show turned into a US one does not automatically mean a simple dub.
For the record, my general preference is subs - I'm just saying they may have actually meant something other than dubbed.

Actually no. Since I am not a native English speaker I can verify that even though some people do not speak English at all or very little, they prefer hearing that over another language even with subtitles. For instance my sister would prefer watching a cartoon in English with Dutch subtitles over hearing it in a language she would understand better. But hey you go debunk some more.

Japanese vs US cartoon. Same toon, but the episodes were edited and dubbed to make sense to an american audience. Got rid of a lot of the gore too, if I’m not mistaken.

Also released as G-Force. Battle of the Planets cut a lot of the original episodes, while G-Force tried to remain more faithful.
