Finally had time to open my two boxes last night:

Box 1: 4 Rares: Ironhide, Cindersaur, Starscream, Skywarp
Box 2: 3 Rares (Ugh): Elita-1, Dupe Ironhide (Ugh!), Dupe Cindersaur (Ugh!)

And no SRTs to be found. Given how little I play I think I may call it quits at this point and hope they come up with a cool deck building game at some point.

To be fair, in two boxes I only have two battle cards that I have zero copies of. I believe that's better than the last two sets.

After 1 box & enough packs for half of a 2nd box, I still need 2 rare battle cards that I have 0 copies of, @Chooch, so I feel your pain. Which ones are you missing?

Erratic Energy Grenade and Unconventional Flying Object. They're both pretty cool, but not anything that I can't live without. I was actually being serious in my appreciating that I was close to a full set after two boxes. It took me three boxes of the original and I was still missing Shock Absorbers.

But sentiment appreciated. It's nice to be able to vent to folks that understand.

Okay, I can't believe it only took you under 13 minutes to open a full box. I usually spend a half hour each time

Also, loved how you got so excited about Shockwave that you completely tossed out the small character card in the trash pile

I have since pulled Top Shot, Trailbreaker, Ironhide & Cindersaur from packs so I only need to chase 6 rares & super rares and my number of play sets to finish has gone down from 20 to 16. Still haven't pulled EDF or Heroic Team-Up.

I saw a few packs of these at Wal Mart today. They don't appear to have Combiner Wars anymore which was a little disappointing. I only picked up one pack.

Oddly this is the first time I'm picking up a pack without knowing what to expect in a booster since the first wave of cards. Those stock white cards that I've gotten use to getting at this point are now only white on one side. The other side as the "Siege" name would suggest is a bit of cross promotion showing the Wave 3 Deluxes. Both of these cards have the same image on them pretty much insuring that no matter how you open the booster pack the first image you'll see is that cross promotion for the toy line. I don't really mind this even though I know it's an obvious advertising ploy to get you to buy more of their stuff because it's more interesting to look at than just those stock white cards. Plus they got me to talk about them as previously I never even bothered mentioning that those cards were in there.

Now the good part... With previous booster packs you only ever got ONE character card. It seems we're getting TWO this time around. The main one I got is Ultra Magnus the other one requires a bit more explaining...

I was wandering after I saw the Soundwave vs. Blaster starter pack how they were going to distribute the other cassettes because the starter pack only comes with three each. (Six in total) it seems my question has been answered as the other character card I got is Ravage. And being a Beast Wars fan I am kinda happy that the first booster pack I picked up just happen to have my favorite character of the cassettes in it. Though at least the G1 version of the set seems to already include a Ravage... Maybe the retail version will have different cassettes than the G1 convention exclusive? Maybe this means that there's potentially three different versions of Ravage out there. I know there's at least three different Bumblebee cards. This card doesn't really mention any effects when playing with Soundwave but I assume that you could customize your Soundwave and Blaster decks with other cassettes if you wanted to.

Something I find odd about this Ravage card is that unlike other character cards he's actually the size of the battle cards and probably could of been packaged along with them but he was just floating around between those two promotional cards with Ultra Magnus. Speaking of the battle cards... previous booster packs came with 7... this only has 6 which means you're still getting the same number of cards in each booster pack and makes me question even more why Ravage wasn't in the clear wrap with the battle cards since they're the same size and they're treating him as a replacement for the 7th battle card that is no longer included.

Something else I've noticed... Some of the cards are reprints with new art work. I picked up another Pep Talk which I have way too many of already but this one has different art work than the previous releases. It still appears to be Ironhide who's giving the Pep Talk but he now features his Siege design instead of the IDW Ironhide and rather than giving a speech to a line up of various other characters he appears to be having a private conversation with Red Alert. Also I'm kinda confused as the context of the original art work cause that line up includes a guy I don't know the name of but clearly has a Decepticon insignia and Tankor and it really looks more like Ironhide was put in charge of a bunch of prisoners rather than giving a Pep Talk. I like the new Art Work a lot better for what the card is. Other than that it has the exact same effects as the original Pep Talk nothing changes in terms of game play mechanics it's just new art work.

The retail version of the Blaster vs Soundwave set will have the same Mini-cassettes as the convention exclusive G1 35th anniversary version. The only difference is the art for the retail version will be in the same style as Waves 1-3.

Raiders Ravage & Lazerbeak in Wave 3 do NOT have the Mini-cassette keyword so they can not interact with the G1 Soundwave's ability to deploy Mini-cassettes. Siege 1 Soundwave does interact with them.

Congrats on the Ultra Magnus pull!

To answer some questions. The retail and G1 tape theme decks will only differ in artwork, not in content, so the cassettes will be the same cards (and not allowable to be played together) but just have modern art vs G1 art. The Ravage and Laserbeak you pulled as part of SIEGE are not cassettes. They are micromasters and spy patrol members. That means they are incompatible with the box set Soundwave and Blaster. In addition, SIEGE Soundwave has bonuses to Spy Patrol members, only SIEGE Ravage and Laserbeak count toward this (unless they print more in later lines) so the cassettes will not get those bonuses. I wanted to clarify that as it's a bit confusing.

As for the new artwork, yes there is a set of cards that were reprinted, the designers mentioned that they wanted to include certain cards in SIEGE to support sealed play. So we have Pep Talk, Medic, Force Field, and Brainstorm again.

I knew this already. I think you might have misunderstood the question. I'll try to explain this a little bit better this time...

I know that the exclusive G1 Soundwave vs. Blaster set comes with a G1 Ravage.

I also know that retail versions will be released with different art work that more resembles the modern Siege designs rather than the G1 Box art.

I know that the cards are functionally the same cards just with different art work.

What I'm confused about is exactly how the retail versions will be distributed. Is the Ravage that I pulled from the booster pack functionally the same card as the G1 Ravage that comes in that set? If so then that would mean the retail version of the set would likely include different cassettes since the retail versions of the G1 cassettes would apparently be booster pack pulls rather than than starter pack cassettes. If this is functionally a completely different Ravage and not just the retail version of that G1 card then that means I would be still be getting another Ravage anyway when I pick up the retail version of that starter pack.

I didn't pull a Laserbeak... I only picked up the one pack that just so happen to have a Ravage inside of it. Also Laserbeak wouldn't have been nearly as confusing since the Starter Pack doesn't come a Laserbeak, it comes with Buzzsaw. I don't know why when Laserbeak is arguably the more popular of the two birds but I guess maybe it's because the G1 toy came packaged with Buzzsaw?

That actually just confused me more and didn't clarify anything. How can they work with G1 Soundwave but not Siege Soundwave if they're the same card just with different art work? That makes it sound like the exclusive and retail versions are now two completely different cards which contradicts what was said earlier. Either that or I'm misunderstanding you now and you're talking about a third Soundwave that is completely different from the box sets. But the way you worded that makes it sound like you're still refering to the same two Soundwave cards that are functionally the same card with different art work.

Oddly I don't think I pulled a Medic before but I got one of the Siege Medic cards now. Or maybe I did and just forgot. I've been keeping 3 of each card in a box that I take with me when I travel so I have cards to play with. The extras stay in a different box at my house so they can stay in good condition until I sell or trade them away. So it's possible I just didn't have any extra Medics cause I only went through the excess box. I could have the old Medic cards still as long as I only have 3 or less they'd be in the box I actually play with. I haven't looked in there for a while so I can't remember what I actually have in there.

Haven't picked up any Siege Force Fields but the original version, I got four of them in my excess. And five Pep Talks... Though I'm thinking about taking one of the three I actually use and replacing it with the Siege version just cause I like the ark work. Might wait till I can find a couple more of those so they can all match but I do like Siege Pep Talk better than the original version. I know it's functionally the same so it really doesn't matter that much but I'm talking about the art work here.

My bad, let me try again. There are, from a rules standpoint, 2 Soundwaves right now.

    1. You can get one of those Soundwaves in SIEGE Booster packs, His name is Major Soundwave he works with the Spy Patrol members you can also get in SIEGE Booster packs. Those two cards are Raider Ravage and Raider Laserbeak. They are considered micromasters and Spy Patrol members. They are not considered cassettes by the rules.
    2. You can get the other Soundwave in Boxsets, this is not SIEGE Soundwave. There are two boxsets, one at conventions and one at retail but they have all the same cards. Functionally identical, and with the same names. But if you buy a box set at a convention you will get G1 card art, and if you buy a box set at retail you will get modern art. Still the same cards. In that Box Set, you get the following character cards:
    • BLASTER // Communications
    • SOUNDWAVE // Communications
    • STEELJAW // Tracker
    • RAMHORN // Warrior
    • EJECT // Electronic Surveillance
    • RAVAGE // Saboteur
    • BUZZSAW // Spy
    • FRENZY // Warrior
Here are both art versions in this article, but the cards are the same:
Transformers: The Card Game First Look at the Blaster vs. Soundwave 35th Anniversary Edition Pack - IGN

Of those cards, Steeljaw, Ramhorn, Eject, Ravage, Buzzsaw, and Frenzy are cassettes. They are not micromasters and not spy patrol members. You can mix teams however you like under the star cost, but Soundwave won't affect or be affected by the Spy Patrol cards, and Major Soundwave won't affect or be affected by the cassette cards.

So the Ravage you have is not the same as the retail boxset Ravage, and won't work with the retail Boxset Soundwave, who is not SIEGE Soundwave, however you get that character.

OK that makes sense now. So we were indeed having a bit of a miscommunication problem before and this actually answers my original question. Thank you! :)  Glad we got that all cleared up.

Welp I've bought a total of 108 packs, and so far have pulled every character card except SRT Ultra Magnus and SRT Cog. Cog got bought, and I have a spare SRT Megatron who I'm hoping to trade for an SRT Magnus.

Had I known you were looking for one, I would have traded a Emergency Defense Field to you a while ago. Should put up your want and haves in the B/S/T thread.

Seems to be a higher drop rate of SR and R cards in this wave. I also managed to pull 4 R and 1 SR (Magnus). Quite a few C and UC duplicates though. Ended up with all but 8 characters from the wave.

Don't think I'd dip for a second box though. I did get a wave 1 box with my wave 3 one though and snagged a SR Nemesis Prime so I'm more than content for now.

Wave 2 Megatron is cheaper because he's only a common.
