Do you guys use instructions that come with your figures or do you prefer to watch youtube vids if you get stuck.

Id like to think im good st tfs my figures but some are obviously easier to do then others. For example ive never tf leader rotf optimus prime and probably never will. Likewise rotf mixmaster has stayed in bot mode since i tfvhim out of packaging.

Im good at some figures but poor at others. Im curious to know if my fellow collectors consider themselves a good pun intended transformer of their figs

After I transform a figure for the first time with instructions, I have it memorized forever.

I’m normally good with main line stuff without instructions. But recent masterpieces, and 3rd party have me scratching my head because the instructions have been unclear.

I am good at memorising the steps once I’ve figured it out, though some figures I’ve no desire to transform again like HFTD voyager prime, and mp 36.

I can't do instructions, as I need a video as a walkthrough how to transform it as it gives me a clear idea.
For some figures like MP Wheeljack I remember it. Than there's Generations Red Alert...

CHUG stuff, no. MP (TT and 3rd party), yes. I just don’t want accidentally break anything.

I never use instructions the first time or two I TF a figure. It's not because I'm a genius or because I like to break my toys...it's because I like the challenge of figuring out a transformation on my own...plus, instructions these days pretty much suck anyway. The colors and shading they use, often times, make it difficult to see exactly what they are trying to convey. I might TF it a couple of times on my own and then look at the instructions or watch a review video to see if I missed any steps or missed an easier/safer way to do it.

Generally do pretty good without instructions. It's not often now that I get a toy before seeing a video review. With that said I'm pretty sure I still used the instructions more than once for FP Diesel....granted that's 3p. Otherwise ROTF leader optimus has been the most difficult and that's more an issue of lining things up right I think than "pure" difficulty

For mainline stuff I can usually convert them without instructions, but if I get stuck I'll check them, and only if those don't help will I check out a video. Sometimes even if I feel I've done a figure successfully without help, I'll check the instructions or a video to see if I missed something or did something wrong.

For Masterpieces I almost always use the instructions. They're so expensive and delicate that I'm afraid that I'll beak something. The two I didn't need instructions for and felt that they were simple enough to risk it, were Bumblebee and Hot Rodimus. I especially felt proud about Hot Rod, because I did it while being distracted, and standing up.

It takes me one transform from out of package bot to vehicle mode, and after reading the instructions, I can transform fairly reliably.

To quote Rob Riggles "he called himself a genius that's how know he isnt one" do not take that as mean. I'm poking fun.
Now to answer your question. The transformations are cool without instructions. Each step feels fun...only time I have issues are when the tolerances are off

I always start with the directions, but these days, they're often pretty bad so sometimes I have to just try to wing it past unclear/left out steps, usually looking at pics on the box or online for reference. Youtube videos are kind of a last resort, usually I just watch them because I enjoy them, not for help converting the toys unless there's something particularly bothering me.

I tend to not use instructions. I like to figure it out on my own and if I can’t, I find Emgo in particular to be quite helpful.

For instance, I want to figure out MP-44 on my own but obviously I’ll have to be extra careful to not break anything.

    I can transform MPM Ironhide.

    with no misaligned panels

I just put time into it and practice, with all my TF's

honestly, I think I enjoy the movie toys more than the G1 styled figures due to the complexity.

Embarrassing. I can do the simpler ones with instructions and some practice, but more complicated ones seem to be outta the question with instructions. I mistransformed Sludge's legs and botched Skywarp part way through. I did manage to get Ratchet and Swoop transformed though.

My kid on the other hand, she's a pro. She don't need no stinkin instructions. :D  The only ones that have ever stumped her, was 1) Astrotrain's train mode. 2) Trying to put together the Dinobots as a Gestalt. Even with my boyfriend's help, they couldn't do it.
