What design is that? Never heard of it.

 

These model kits have gone from a casual, if consistent interest to “fuck I have to have these.”

Even Windblade, a design I hate, looks great. Making her wings look like butterfly wings/a bow is really clever, but the real winners are the beast commanders. I love Big Convoy’s super blocky tech arm. A detail from the original toy that was hardly a thing but they just made it so cool. And Primal is just... he’s incredible. Lio Convoy looks incredible with the kingly motif.

Jesus Christ I just looked at the Twitter replies and I feel sick.

I’m definitely buying this Windblade now. Preorders when?  

 

Between the sword and the cape, looks like Lio is taking some inspo from TR alpha trion?

In any case, any big convoy news is good, and he and lio look fuckn lux.

 

Ah hell. Guess I’m getting Rodimus.

 

I hope we get a super G1 Rodimus after the IDW one. I don’t really dislike the IDW design but it’s not really my bag these days, but I love the super 80’s-ness of the G1 model. (Even though it’s unlikely since its not that popular) They did it for Optimus so I hope maybe Roddy will get the same treatment. Lord knows he deserves it.

I love that about Big Convoy as well. It’s such a distinctive part. A great example of taking an aspect of the design in their own way.

I’m even getting a kind of native king vibe from Lio Convoy. With the lion head looking more like some traditional big shield. Looks really cool!

I’d be down for another Rodimus as well. Maybe even one that goes with the other anime like Furai Models. G1 rooted but a bit more explosive. Kinda like that Bumblebee.

 

Man all their designs are so good, I almost wish the Beast Commanders would go into the 3K line as well

 

3K is a nice way to shorten it without being uncomfortable.

 

Which took inspiration from Don Figueroa's IDW Beast Wars Lio Convoy design.

 

I've been thinking of a way to abbreviate it without doing it the obvious way. I am a genius.

 

Haven't had any luck finding a NeoArts Leo Convoy, so this might scratch that itch. Still waiting on more updates to their Furai Windblade as well.

I wasnt a big fan of the IDW design either, but this bulkier look pulls it off nicely for a Rodimus, as i still see them as two distinct characters, Hot Rod is slimmer and fits the IDW look but as Rodimus (and the implied history with the name) should be bigger.

 

That makes sense.

 

My overall reactions to Furai Models:

*Round1- Optimus, IDW Optimus, Megs, Starscream, Bee*- Meh, I've no interest in non-transforming models...
*Round2- Nemesis Prime*- Eh, Maybe I'll get one, I've some custom ideas that might just work with his parts.
*Round3- Windblade, Leo Convoy*- FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU DID YOU SEE THAT EPIC CAPE ON LEO!!!!?

 

Would probably end up making mods to Leo to make him transformable since all his alt mode parts are already there, lol.

 

Could very much be possible actually.

 

I definitely appreciate the model kits, I got IDW Prime and while I enjoyed building him and fiddling with him, I realised I much prefer normal figures. Still glad that other people get to scratch the model-kit itch

It's like they were starting out "safe" and just kinda tip-toeing towards the really out-their, impressive designs. It makes that first Optimus they did look positively quaint by comparison.

 

They’ve sure come a long way.

 

Wow, these non-transforming figures aren’t my thing but I just love that Lio Convoy design. I especially love that he has a Moon sword much like his Prime Arms Micron incarnation.
