I've seen this before...I'd go with using a plastic razor blade or a metal razor blade

Apple gave me a brand new iPhone!! They opened up the phone, they inspected it, since it had melted substance on the phone and they wanted to be sure. As it turns out, no liquid has entered inside the phone and it was just a hardware problem. So therefore, it was covered under the warranty.

So...was it just coincidence that the hardware problem started after you melted the housing? And they were honest and didn't try to blame you? LUCKY! :D
