Combiner bot but without the combing. You guys will seriously find any excuse to complain about this franchise.

Yeah we had combiner characters without combining for years before CW. Almost all were repaints of other toys. Never again. Never again...

I mean technically we've already got a combiner team who doesn't combine in Siege.

Prime, Prowl, Mirage, and Ironhide. Just missing Sunstreaker and I'm pretty sure he's on his way.

Also, any future Dinobots are a combiner team who likely won't combine.

Didn't several combiners get at least one substitute member instead of their proper team?

I mean, it was a repaint line itself. Plus what @LoneDragon said.

In their initial waves, yes. But the remaining figure for each combiner was released in later waves so that all of them were eventually completed.

At least I think that's how it happened.

Fair 'nuff I suppose. Certainly not my bag. I feel we're way past the point of combiner members not actually combining. It isn't anything I'm going to spend any amount of money on anymore after CW.

Hasbro certainly released the four missing guys, Slingshot, Wildrider, Groove and Blast Off. Takara never replaced them for their Unite Warriors sets in the first place.

Business wise, that doesn't make any sense. All the character that are produced probably take them months to plan and actually produce. Having a new character from a mold based on a intended character is just a way the team justify the cost of a mold. Especially for not so famous outside of fandom character like Overlord & skyshadow.

and risk nerd rage from everyone else? not a chance in hell.

Sorry, I don’t see how what I said somehow invalidates these two points (on which you’re totally right - they do take months to plan and they do release variations to recoup costs, mostly of the very expensive steel molds).

Agree to disagree? Either way I’d always loce to learn more about this subject (although I doubt Hasbro would want to give fans info on this) :thumb

Actually it is the awful siege figures that are notorious for qc issues.
CW are awesome figures with superior quality and the line was one of the high points of the franchise.

There is a key difference there though, those were existing non combiner characters given the Combiner Gimmick, as opposed to say the Constructicons or Aerialbots who from their inception are fundamentally associated with forming a Combiner. That was my understanding of the quote Orangeitis I think often cites from Warden: The desire to retain gimmicks which are a key part of a character's fantasy. So like the Constructicons form Devastator is such a key part of who they are it would be majorly odd *not* to have them be combiners.

We are nowhere near at the point we should look at redoing figures done as well as CW was.

Like, you can make an argument we need a better Motormaster, sure, but we do not need a non-combining Motormaster when there are still hundreds more characters who need updates like, say, Dinobot. Or Terrorsaur. Or both of the famous Scorponoks. Or Raiden. Or a Sideburn with a reasonable transformation. Or a fair few of the earlier Armada characters. Or anything from the G1/G2 transition like the runaway popularity of Ironfist, Pyro or Rotorstorm

When I have my Predator and Turbomaster updates you can go on about wanting your precious show accuracy, but until the characters I had as my main toys in childhood actually get an update with actual bloody elbows, show accuracy can go take its ass over to the 3rd party forum and stay there.

They got there eventually. Or you could have gone the TT route.

Never bought a 3p kit and I'm 100% happy with my combiners! :)
