Spence ?, and who else ? And yeah I concur , I all ways just sort of saw them as a bunch of guys in different countries / cities that just ran the company in their spare time when their lives allowed them to have free time together . So I thought may be some thing had come up in some ones personal life , or them managing funds and waiting for there to actually be enough to push forward with what ever line or lines they want . I mean Glacialord / bots were teased 5 years before we actually got him , which came out of no were . But yeah , I`d love to interact with some like minded folks and dig abit , but I know not who to approach ? , Screen names , real full names ect ...

I think Glacialord didn't sell very well considering that all the retailers had these figures on clearance. TFSource was blowing these figures out for $10 over Christmas in order to get rid of their stock. They are really cool figures, but I think a lot of collectors want more articulation and aren't that interested in original characters. Either way, we should know whether Fansproject plans on releasing more figures by TF-Con in July.

It is unfortunate that we as a fan base don't want/enjoy more original characters.

Yeah, the real money is in Yet Another Set of MP Dinobots, right? :p

(I'd love to see them revisit this and do something completely ridiculous like a new-tooling G1 Victorion/Megaempress.)

I say the same thing but then I don't buy the original characters either. Main reason is that I don't have nostalgia for it and have enough other stuff to buy.

I think you might be hitting on why Fansproject has slowed their release schedule. Glacialord, the dinobots, the headmasters, and Dinoking all didn't sell well and were put on clearance at various retailers.

It's criminal that they never went back and finished Bruticus after releasing the two limbs and upgrade parts. That would have been great for them. Why didn't they make another combiner after Intimidator either?

But you get to create new memories with brand new characters, and create your own backstory, or weave the two brands together. Also, Steel Core is still one of the best figures and he is his own character. I really do love the Glacialbots as well and always hoped we'd get a "classics" version of them. Is that retro nostalgia? Plus the retro future line was a great way to revisit the generation that gave us that nostalgia.

I know, I kept waiting and waiting for them to make the other three bots for Bruticus, especially after making the two repaints that would've been great for a Battle Gaia repaint. They've made some really boneheaded decisions throughout their career even though they pioneered the third party scene. Perhaps they are like Icarus and flew too close to the sun.

It`s funny , I kept reading comments from people who rather enjoyed the fact they created their own characters . All this is news to me . I enjoyed the way they introduce new unknown characters , beats release after release of things we own ten times over . Imo any way .

That project was finished as it was never meant to be more than replacement limbs for the cloned molds and upgrades for the set as a whole.

They also recently finished their Dinoking combiner.

As well as their Pretender DINO shells , that were in limited numbers due to cost . I loved how the DINO shells were fighting GLACIALORD in the RETRO-FUTURE sticker book , and then it showed DINOKING thawing out in a hole in the ice , just ready to fight . Pretty epic . Lost EXO-RELM verse RETRO-FUTURE .... Love how every thing Fansproject does is in one solid universe ... <3

I think it's mostly due to Glacialord being for a specific type of fan. The combiner fits in very well with the G1 combiner bots, but that's not going to be for everybody. It's a deliberate throwback, and while I would love to see more of this line, I'm not holding my breath.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing a modern interpretation of the team.

I forget they've been releasing figures pretty regularly since they don't promote their stuff as much as Maketoys, MMC, etc. They did release Saurus Ryu, the dinobot girls, Severo, and Browning in the last year.

While I think it was a neat idea, I just don't think there are a ton of fans out there who want G1-style toys with all their piss poor articulation and odd proportions that weren't the actual G1 toys they had as kids. I know I'm in that boat that thinks if they'd made these same characters but as more modern 3P toys I'd have definitely bought a set, but I've got no interest in what they actually released.

Plus, as people keep saying, Fansproject is weird. They're probably the most close-lipped 3P out there, and they just kind of release stuff when they release it. I know there's a ton of people waiting for them to finish the Function-X Headmasters, and I think they only released one of them in all of 2016, meanwhile they were making Dai Atlas. And Lost Exo Realm fans are still waiting for them to release Snarl, and instead they got a pair of female Dinobots.

They have been releasing figures , hence my confusion when people say they haven`t been , or that their slipping . I think eventually we`ll get another taste of the RETRO-FUTURE line , It`s just a matter of when . I think it would be cool if they released a box set of the other gestalt ... it would fit right in with the way they like to alter the packaging for the figures ....I`d love an old school box set of new new G1 - ish sub-group of Baddies , that turn in to some unknown as of yet gestalt . I think it would be way awesome if they released one or 2 bots on an old school card backing with a common bubble as well . It`s endless what they could do .

Glacialord is probably my favourite third party release, but I don't think there's much chance of seeing the line continuing. Everything about it just felt like a real labour of love and even the packaging with the goofy story which explained the 5th Korean box was great fun.

I loved that it took a different approach from everything else. Most other releases go for the nostalgia people feel for the old characters and try to make new representations of them. Whereas Glacialord tried to target nostalgia for the old toys and old cartoon and tried to introduce new characters into that.

So yeah, I'd love to see another release in the line. But I really don't think it's possible. I think the fact that prices still ended up close to regular third party levels can't have helped sales, but I'm not sure demand is ever going to realistically be enough for them to drive prices down too much.

Fansproject isn't slipping, it's that there is just a lot more competition in the market than there used to be. Takara and 3P are making a lot more masterpiece figures and a lot of high end collectors have moved to just collecting those. MMC has also started pumping out a lot of CHUG scale figures and some people have moved to just collecting that line. I personally would love to see Fansproject, MMC, and Maketoys semi work together to build out a full CHUG scale line. I would probably move to just collecting that if I knew I could get all the characters that are MP in a high end CHUG representation.

Wow, it's been a while since I made that comment. Fansproject isn't dead, but they aren't releasing CHUG style figures because they don't believe there's a market currently for their product at the price point. In the last couple years, 3P legends have really burst onto the scene and Hasbro has stepped up their game as well, so I think a lot of people would rather spend $20-50 on that than $80-$150 on Fansproject or are into Masterpiece. I do think that Fansproject did show Hasbro that there is a market for Season 4 and Japanese G1 with collectors.

I concur about G1 Season 4 and beyond.. It has been a while, i actually forgot about this thread. Idk about folks loosing interest in a lot of third party or what not, but on recent years Has/Tak most definetely sucked old fans back in... Thrilling 30's started it, and its just been gold ever sonce, and with each year increasingly getting better, imo any way.
