That's pretty good for an end date that's 40 days out. It's going to pass 2000 in the next week or so and probably not pass 3000 until the final week, when it blows well past 8000. I thought that dumb Star Wars barge was completely screwed. Seriously, it's Jabba's barge. I'm not a Star Wars collector, but when I think "what to drop a massive amount of money on a Star Wars Toy", I think gigantic Star Destroyer, Echo Base, Yavin, or Death Star Playset. I don't think Jabba's Barge. But sure enough, it passed like 130% of the requirement.

If Unicron doesn't get made, it calls into question the viability of Haslab, because he, the Ark and the Nemesis were the three completely obvious things people put forward when Haslab was announced. Like what else are they going to do? Another Fortress Maximus?

But i'm very sure he will. The problem is Hasbro is asking a lot of fans all at once. I don't normally blink at my toy collecting hobby, but this is getting a bit much. August not only has the $575 Unicron, it has the $313 MP-44 (if you got it through Amazon.co.jp), Assorted WFC, Selects and Studio Series that add up to about $300ish ($80 rainmakers? for fucks sake...). For people like me who also have gone in for 90s X-Men Marvel Legends, there is $120 of those coming out AND $120 of 90s X-Force coming out. There is a couple of Marvel 80 years as well.

And then there are a few things I'm reluctantly passing on but others didn't. There was the Ghostbusters-TF stuff. There is Movie Masterpiece Megatron and I think Jazz.

I'm going to spend about $1200 on Toys on August it seems. But I can easily spend over $2000 if I expanded my list to include the "oh that's nice". And then in September we have Star Convo and more WFC stuff and Selects. And then in October is Omega Supreme (formerly in August, lol) whose $160 price tag is suddenly looking real good.

Everything Hasbro is doing is wonderful, but it's almost too much of a good thing. I am very comitted to the MP-44 Optimus Prime and Unicron and all the baseline WFC stuff. But then out of nowhere comes "Galactic Man Shockwave" or that WFC three pack with Holo-Mirage and Decepticon Impactor (who has a better head), or the Reflector 3 pack. And starting pretty soon is Pirhanicon as well... let's not forget that.

This is pretty awesome, but Hasbro really runs a risk of it's fans who would buy not buying some of this stuff because it's so much all at once. If it was MP-44 in August and Unicron deadline in November, I would barely blink. But stacking those to has made me cancel things I impulsively pre-ordered like Soundblaster (I don't REALLY need him, do?) from Walmart, Reflector 3 pack, Galactic Man Shockwave and consider avoiding the Rainmakers and most of the other multipacks. Thing is, spread out over 8months, I'd buy it all.

It's awesome, but Hasbro runs a real risk of consumer burnout.

Yup. That sums it up well. Had Unicron been earlier in summer or another time, it wouldn’t be a question for me. I’ve also passed on the nice-to-haves like 3-pack Refraktor due to this. So, the verdict is still out for me.

My opinion was this - do I like soundblaster? Yes. Always wanted one. Love the two tape gimmick. Is he a unique character? No. And I already own soundwave. It would be a fight if I didn’t own soundwave. But I skipped Great Shot when I found out he’s literally SixShot, I don’t own an upgrade of prime if it’s still prime (so I have the box set prime who is really my Jinrai and I have the skateboard prime who is the actual skater with a Transtector to me because I don’t have a black prime but no star convoy because it’s literally prime), and I only have G2 megs and laser prime for nostalgia. Siege is difficult for me because it’s a massive repaint line but I can excuse it with the remolded ones as new characters given my Quake and Krok from TR :/

I'm glad you lack the restraint I don't. And you're right, there's a lot of stuff hitting at about the same time, and it gets worse if you collect multiple Hasbro brand lines (except Star Wars, that is turning out to be super cheap in comparison). I completely forgot about a few of the things you mentioned. And that's on top of the SDCC stuff. I tend to buy almost everything from a line so my burnout will probably happen much more quickly than yours. Not going to lie, Marvel Legends appeal to me at varying levels depending on the day, but Transformers I'm still all in for. Though I do wish that Hasbro can fix the modeler's error on the beard of Unicron. I mean, I understand why they made the error (that reference pic is stupid busy) but for this price, I feel like 95% accuracy isn't good enough.

Anyway, your point is well taken.

Yeah that's pretty much where I am. I got soundblaster initially because I never owned one, and thought "hey maybe I'll have this guy as part of my Headmasters display". But then I realized I had Soundwave, who is awesome, in my 1984 decepticon display and Soundblaster didn't really mean anything to me. So I canceled him. I *might* cancel the Cartoon-colored 35th Optimus and Megatron. Those two molds are going to be their go-to molds for them for the next decade (I really think Siege Optimus is the replacement for Classics Optimus), and they're going to be repainted so many ways we'll lose track. The cartoon coloring is unique though.

I really can't pass on Star Convoy. He does have emotional attachment to me. Back in the late 1990s when I started collecting Transformers again, learning there was a Japanese G1 after the US G1, and it ended with Optimus Prime getting the ultimate upgrade fascinated me. I loved the design. The hold up for me on him is that the 3P MMC iteration might be better. I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with it yet.

It's funny you mention G2. I was all in on the "Clone Sideswipe" box set to give G2 Megs and Laser Optimus some friends... but then all these other box sets and big buys came out. And out went that idea. A G2 repaint collection is something I've been avoiding since Combiner Wars, and I nearly went wobbly on that here.

But when Hasbro does the inevitable Machine Wars Starscream from Skyquake, who I'm sure will turn up in WFC somewhere, I'm all in for that.

The Marvel Legends I'm looking at like this: the marvel I liked most was the 90s X-Men / X-Force / X-Factor, Excalibur. The X-Men of the 21st century have largely been dogshit and I couldn't give to fucks about a Pixie, or Academy X or Home Summers figure. Marvel's doing the X-Men I like now and then it's done. I won't need to get another Beast or something ever again. We just got the best Magneto ever made, for example. It's not precisely like Transformers in which a new line does something different and interesting with an existing character. With Marvel, if they do figures based on the upcoming X-Men "House of X" comic, I wouldn't care.

The wrinkle in this is that I think Marvel knows that about its collector base, which is a lot of guys in their 30s and 40s who grew up in the 80s and 90. So what do they do? THey just dropped that next-year we're getting Age of Apocalypse figures. Which means they found an avenue where fans like me WILL buy another Wolverine, or Cyclops.

Something else that tells me this: Marvel legends is dropping a late 80s / early 90s Dazzler figure on us in August too. Dazzler didn't have that exactly look for long, but everyone remembers it because it's exactly what she wore in the Konami X-Men arcade game we all grew up with.

For my own collecting needs, I'm kind of repeating history. Last year I went in deep on the Eaglemoss Star Trek collection ($~20 starships). Big Trek fan growing up and they made ships that have never been put to plastic or diecast before. So I dropped like $1000 over 18 months over a few dozen ships. But that's it. I'll never get another Breen Warship ever again.

I think that's what's going to happen with me and Marvel Legends. Transforms I'll buy forever. Marvel legends... I have a finite list of interest. But goddamn, why does it have to stack at the same time as the most expensive Transformers year ever.

Funnily enough, I don't actually know who Pixie is but the main reason I get excited about Marvel legends is because when they release someone I don't know, I look into them. I don't read comics so it's kind of nice discovering all these characters for the first time and seeing that they have a storied history. The MCU is what's killing my interest as it isn't speaking to me as much as it used it (though the ant-man two pack with Ghost is a high priority of mine). I guess I also like multiple versions of the character too. I have my preference as I believe the previous Dazzler and Polaris are my favorite designs, I'll still get the new ones just to see where they came from.

I guess I just like something I haven't seen before and Transformers tends to provide that better these days (though I do miss the Animated designs more than I thought I would).

Heh, funny enough I've entirely avoided MCU figures for my Avengers, aside from a couple random Iron Mans. I like the look of Modernish Comic Avengers more, and it just seems weird to have an actor's likeness on a shelf somewhere.

This last round of preorders along with Unicron has decided that I'm cancelling my order for MP-44. I just like the generations line more than MP at the moment. The only reason I ever bought MP over chug was that they were closer to what we saw on screen than the classics stuff. But then at Titans Return, that shifted. Now this stuff is pretty cartoon accurate and I'd much rather have toys than high end collectibles. They're just more fun.

When is Generations going to become the Studio Series for G1? That would be my definitive collection.

If I had to guess, WFC Part 3 or Part 1 of the next Trilogy (War for Earth?)

Some couldn't be exact because of liscencing issues, but I'd say the chances of this happening are approaching 100%. The already did "Neo-G1" with updated Alt Modes from Classics through Thrilling 30 and Combiner Wars. Somewhere along the line in Titan Returns they shifted from doing "inspired by G1" to "you know what? This is G1 as if it were made today. See: Sixshot. The next step is just to do the 1984 and 1985 cast as mini-masterpieces.

The thing I'm kind of dreading them going back to - and they will - is Combiners. Because the early combiner voyagers in the form of Motormaster and Hot Spot / Onslaught were just.... not very good and needed a lot of 3P help to make work. The later combiners all worked out okay.

Licensing isn't even the issue if they base the vehicle modes on the cartoon models...

Honestly, unless they do something amazing for the 40th and that's only 5 years away and two of those will be eaten up by the rest of WFC, I'd say this is as close as we're going to get. And seriously, would you want to rebuy these all, all over again?! Not me. I'm done with that. I understand Hasbro has to make money and reinventing the toy over and over again is one way of doing it, but my wallet's getting tired.

I never really knew What my limit was for Transformers. The most I ever spent on a single figure is $437, which was a steal for my holy grail Botcon 2006 Megatron.

Then I saw Unicron. Nope. Too rich for my blood. And it’s just Unicron. Maybe if it was MP Fort Max, I’d be tempted. It all works out though because I preordered a bunch of other figures this weekend.. :lol . Now where are my Ratchet and Rainmaker preorders??

I guess that's where I'm at. Studio Series quality but for the G1 toon ( screen accuracy ) is what I've wanted from the toyline since 2001 when RID brought Autobots and Decepticons back. I'm almost "done" buying toys and I'd just like to FINALLY put what I want on my shelf. I'd re-buy all the characters one more time, but that's it. Otherwise I'll be done once we get the rest of the 84-88 characters. Which at this rate, won't take long.

Same here. And between Prime Wars and WFC trilogies we should be damn close to obtaining that 84-88 goal, and then I'm done.

EDIT: Also, I emailed Hasbro Pulse about my damaged Ectotron we'll see what happens with that if anything.

This is pretty much where I am. I mean I'll ALWAYS buy a more G1-y Optimus and a Voyager Starscream that turns into an F-15, but what are they going to do? Make a better Jetfire? How exactly do they do Shockwave better than Siege shockwave? Do we really need another Prowl who turns into a small car?

I think after WFC we're pretty much done with a certain type of G1 Transformer.

IMO they need to do something radically different post-WFC. My concern: they're going to make their way backs to Combiners and do the CW combiners with Siege-level engineering and detail. PotP showed considerable design maturity over much of Combiner Wars and what that could look like (but probably even further. I'd probably go in for Menasor and Defensor again, because their CW molds are horrible without serious 3P work. But I don't think I really need another Superion.

Oh and on that note, something I'm sure we'll see in WFC: Devastator with Cybertronian form deluxes.

But yeah we're getting close to the end of the G1 list. Hell, even the beachball sized Unicron is actually happening.

Day 7 and we hit 1620 backers for Unicron. We only need 167 people per day (on average) to meet the goal and so far we're ahead.

Oh and because this is the beginning of day 7, we're doing very well.
