The problem with that plot though is not only would it render the ST meaningless (which I am sure would be welcomed by many here) but it would render the OT ending stupider because the OT people really accomplished nothing, not even failure, because Rey had to time fix everything, victories and mistakes.

I’d rather each generation gets the ball as far down the field as they can, sets back are suffered, next generation gets the ball farther down the field. That’s how life works. This would be the most un-Star wars, Star Wars film ever because it would render both generations and the passage of time meaningless. Basically knocking down the entire foundations of Lucas’ own beliefs for an inane story about nothing. Just pretty pictures, meaningless against and all powerful time mage who can right all wrongs. It’s so fucking terrible a concept I cannot adequately describe how much it fundamentally undermines the human condition. Even the TLJ doesn’t do that.

 

Dude read what the man actually is saying, he is not the dick everyone makes him out to be. It’s actually quite a nice answer.

Johnson: The thing is though, "no" in terms of, "Oh wow, they're right, I shouldn't have done that," but "fair" in terms of every single "Star Wars" thing that comes out, every fan has stuff they love, stuff they hate about it. Every movie has its lovers and its haters. Every single one going back to the originals.

Hamill: We were so lucky there wasn't social media when "Empire Strikes Back" came out.

Johnson: Yeah, "Empire" would have gotten roasted. If you look at the criticism of "Last Jedi," can you imagine what they would have said about Luke just getting his ass handed to him by Vader? Oh my God.

Johnson: But that's also the other side of the coin of what's great about "Star Wars" fans... Everyone is so passionate about it.

 

It kind of come across to me as he is hand waving away the criticism by essentially saying "Haterz gonna hate."

 

I have no idea what you’d want him to say, the guy came out and said he didn’t intend to ruin anyone’s childhood. Some people are going hate what he did there is no way or nothing he can say to fix that.

 

Johnson comes across as totally oblivious, if not in complete denial, and it’s like Mark Hamill is subtly roasting him without him even knowing.

Admitting he made a mistake would be a good first step, though.

 

I'd might believe that if he didn't call people manbabies.

 

Or if he showed any self-awareness at all.

 

Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy deserve each other. They are like two peas in smug self-important pod.

 

At least JJ Abrams was able to say “oops I forgot” when asked why Leia hugged Rey and not Chewie

 

What do you want him to apologize for?

Making a movie you didn’t like?

Or throwing insults back at people who were insulting him, personally?

 

Gonna go out on a limb and say Last Jedi won’t hold up as a valuable cultural work of art the way Empire has.

 

Anywhere on Reddit I can read the whole plot ?

 

Do you expect someone to apologize for making a movie they wrote and directed?

Do you expect a person to apologize to someone else who’s personally attacking them?

That’s my point. It’s a standard no one would even hold themselves to.

Well, since Star Wars has done such a great job satirizing itself I believe it is only appropriate to bring up the greatest satirists of this generation.

 

Creative control of Star Wars should be handed over to the YouTube user known as "The Lore Master".

Just go watch his fan made "Vader" mini movie and you'll see.

 

If it's shit, absolutely.

And even if they don't apologize, biting back with petty insults is like the last thing you should do as a director. It makes you seem just as petty and stupid as the people who criticize you.

I'd never apologize to Ryan Johnson.
