wow, - that looks miles better than anything Amblimation actually made! I always knew they had some brilliant artists. Comparisons could probably be made to 1994's Felidae, but this looks much more dramatic and dynamic. I'm not yet interested in the current production, although perhaps if they move away from the people in leotards stuff it'll get interesting. Just isn't my thing.
Judi Dench Set To Pounce On ‘Cats’ Rebel Wilson To Play Jennyanydots In Universal-Working Title’s ‘Cats’
I tried finding a thread but couldn't so feel free to merge if a thread already exists. Don't know about the rest of you but t have no words.
My first thought after watching the trailer was "well, that's sure meme material". I saw several memes less than an hour after the trailer dropped, lol. I'm not familiar with the musical, and I'm not hugely into theater. I'm curious how this looks to fans of the musical. It looks horrifying to me.
I don’t really see how this will be successful. I know it’s been a successful Broadway musical for decades now, but the trailer just seems a bit esoteric to someone with no knowledge of the stage play at all. I have no idea what the plot of this other than the fact that everyone is a cat person. I was really taken aback by the uncanny valley of the effects too. The emotional beat at the end of the trailer just didn’t stick at all because I don’t know who that it is, and I was still distracted by the cat people. To borrow a phrase from Family Guy, I felt it “insisted upon itself.” Rebel Wilson’s comedy fell kinda flat, and I generally like her in movies. I expect there to be lots of anime cat girl memes too.
I'll probably see it for nostalgia purposes, especially since the two family members I had that were fans are no longer here to see it for themselves. Being from the makers of the film version of "Les Miserables" also peaks my interest (which is my favorite musical). On another note, the make-up/designs raises my exceptions for how they'll do Cheetah for "Wonder Woman 1984".
No interest to watch it, but admit that's a surprisingly decent cast. Well, with the exception of Taylor friggin' Swift. I mean, da fuq
Agreed I watch the new IT trailer before this but this one was somehow the creepier one. I wasn't even able to focus on the comedy since everything looks so strange. I also never seen the musical I don't know anything about this project or the characters. That was my reaction to everything in this trailer.
For those unfamiliar with the stage play, you might need some background. Cats is adapted from collected poetry by T.S. Eliot, mostly from the compilation Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. These poems didn't have any connecting plot as published, though they were almost exclusively about cats. A plot was introduced for the play, but it's deliberately minimal. A tribe of cats has gathered, as they do once a year, to decide which one of them will ascend and be reborn into a new life. This becomes a framing device for most of the unrelated cat poems, each one becoming a story told by the cats about themselves or other cats, as they consider who should be selected. There are a few bits of plot here and there, but these also are only to give context to one poem or another. The poems themselves are, of course, presented through song and dance. So Cats is really about its own aesthetics and a general love of cats and dance theater. It's about song and dance and silly rhymes that celebrate colorful feline characters. Everyone who goes in expecting more than that is disappointed. WYSIWYG. Expect the whole thing to be exactly like the trailer.
The music is pretty awesome, but...there is something VERY off about these characters. Like, they LOOK like they’re people in costumes, but apparently they’re CG characters? Honestly, why couldn’t they go with something like this:
I dont get the creepy comments, they look fine for what they are. And people saying Sonic CG looks better, the fuck?
