So I see that Mattel is announcing dolls for the new Netflix She-Ra show, Shadowweaver looks cool and while I'm not a fan of Swiftwind's wings, he is otherwise decent looking. But for some reason they don't seem to be advertising them on their website at all? Weird.
Probably AFTER the official announcement. I know my daughter wants these hardcore... and as good father that watches the show with her (it's not so bad and I actually think it's better written than the original) I feel obliged to pick those up for her probably for either her b-day or Christmas.
Not action figure wise but I picked this up from the great Robert Lamb. The story board artist from MOTU when I was up in Knoxville last weekend. It’s a copy of a set of story boards from House of Shokoti.
So far, S7 has been completely silent as to whether there is some continuation with them doing the Classics line. Which leads me to believe they're done after Classics Snake Mountain. It also makes me sad because I would've liked to have seen a few more Classics Filmation heroes made like Ram man, Roboto, and Buzz-off. It's also a nail in the coffin for anything 200X in Classics at this point. Remember that there is still Power-Con coming up next month, and Mattel and/or S7 may be holding back a few surprises for that event as well.
Pixel Dan interviewed Flynn from Super7. Flynn stated that his company still has a license to produce Motu toys however, he won't comment on what and when. Also Flynn and Dan made a snarky comment about "cats".
...if Classics is ending, then I’m done with MOTU. While its nice to see the vintage styled figures, I don’t want to go down another rabbit. For those of us sad (me included) that the Classics line is ending...IMO its been a really great run with the line!
Same here man! I’m kinda hoping we get a Filmation Leech to round up the original Horde members in animated form.
I watched the same interview and to me it seemed like the S7 guy was leaving the classics line open-ended. I just recently got into these and only have the Ultimate Heman and Skeletor + Merman and Man-e-faces. I have Stratos on preorder and was thinking about picking up Sorceress, but if they're not doing any more of these or re-doing/re-releasing the older characters, I might have to bow out gracefully.... These retail vintage figures with the additional articulation look decent, but their aesthetic is nowhere near the S7 classics line.... I guess getting a full run of the figures I want is slightly more important to me then the aesthetic. Especially when the older classic figures that I want command a 75-120$ price tag on the secondary market..... Trying to justify the economics of it all in my head leaves my even more frustrated. Say 14 new and older release classic figures (14 figures x 50-100$ average) around 1000$. The newer retail vintage line (16$ msrp) would net you around 60 figures, give or take....... I guess I will wait to power-con to see what S7 has up their sleeve.....
Given what was said, although vague at this point, I firmly believe S7 has every intention to continue with the Classics Filmation and Collector's Choice lines. It appears that they're trying to coordinate things with Mattel for the moment. Once that dust will settle, I think we will see S7 start to show new Classics figures for 2020. I also have a feeling we won't see as many, perhaps a wave of 2-3 instead of 4-6. Again, I think we will find out a lot more concrete and clear information at Power-Con in August.
So, we get a new retail release line for MOTU, and it's comprised of vintage figures with joints added. I hope classics isn't ending.
I really like the face sculpts on Teela and Evil Lyn! Lookin good. The thing which will really make this line pop as it did back in the 80s has gotta be the playsets and vehicles If I were Mattel I'd be going with the ones with action features and the most visually outrageous figures first, Buzz-Off, Roboto, The Horde, The Snakemen, Moss Man, Spikor, Trap Jaw, Scareglow, Mer-Man, Stinkor (fans might hate it, but kids would love Stinkor if he smelled and has a fart voice chip.. judging by how many fart and poo toys are on the market)
