I showed this earlier in the thread. Your assertion that most backers come in early is incorrect. For the Barge, there were only 3800 backers in the first 35 days. In the last 6 days....4500 backers.

    This is doing just fine.

Oh totally. I'll move heaven and earth to keep reading. MTMTE is the best Transformers series I've ever seen in any medium. I assume Lost Light has much more in store than just the one spoiler I now have.

That's good to know. Also do we know if the Takara Mall pre-order numbers will be added into the 8K?

Sorry, this thread is huge. I did look over the last few pages first, though. And that's exactly why I asked how the barge went... But most crowd funded projects DO go that way. Good to hear the Haslab ones haven't followed suit.

Ironic that the two crowd funding figures they have going right now are for two monsters that love to eat.

I am also reading the Hardcovers and just had that spoiled for me as well. That was a pretty major plot point and it would have been very considerate for them to put a spoiler tag on it. They weren't at fault for talking about it here, because like they said it is around a year old. But still I think they should go back and put spoiler tags on it.

My post was mainly a reply to the post above it saying maybe if this one got funded it would show Hasbro that Unicron is popular so they might also do a 'normal' version of him down the line too. I should have quoted it.

Basically I highly doubt they needed this one to be successful to know Unicron was a popular enough character that a $200 (or whatever they are) Titan would have done alright.

(The sculpting and both modes are amazing, the wing transformation is clever, the mouth gimmick is awesome, but)
I can't help but be really disappointed that the entirety of the planet shell-forms. For that price I really would have expected them to try integrating the planet surface into the torso and legs.

Oh boy. This is really hard to judge by eye. I'm now going back and forth on whether it's possible.
1st reaction was just assuming they could attempt to do better. but then after writing a long post and trying to reason out how they could do it, I though it was impossible.
After all, the giant planet mouth is just too large to fit in the torso. but then when I threw it in an image editor I saw that the mouth COULD fit in the torso. (If you remove the rotating ring around it that articulates the teeth, which could hypothetically be done more efficiently. The outer ring is shown faded to compare. Even if it's as wide as the chest due to foreshortening from the camera lens, the inner teeth part would still fit.)

I'll try to work on something more precise for the next step.
Roughly I was thinking the largest panels on the legs, which are on the sides of the planet, there are 8 of them, and if 4 of them covered all 4 sides of the leg, that would mostly deal with that. It would probably need to be doubled up though, due to the extra, smaller panels.
Next, the backpack is SIX layers thick, and about as tall as the torso; but the torso has large vertical and horizontal gaps in the armor plating. Even if there were no gaps, it would probably only use 3 of those panels.
I also have to keep in mind that all the silver panels are on top and bottom, so the torso has to be formed only from that, while the legs have to be formed from ALL the rest, minus the 4 large orange circles around the equator.

... I really wish I could play around with this in a 3D modeler. I wanted to 3D model Unicron decades ago and I never pursued it. Now I haven't used 3D Studio Max in years and don't have access to it and have to learn Blender with it's sometimes-backwards mouse buttons.
This new Unicron toy makes me want to be a better man.

Hard to appreciate the size until you see it in person.

I did some math in order to better understand what is going on with Unicron. An avergare human, let's say 1.75m tall, has a skin surface area of about 2 square meters. Unicron is stated to be 25 inches tall on top of his head, so if we assume for simplicity's sake that he has human proportions, he has a surface area of about 0.26 square meters. He then turns into a sphere of 40cm of diameters and about 0.50 square meters area. This is a rough aproximation, but should give an idea of how much material Hasbro has to store in robot mode.
