I'm guessing the reason why Takara doesn't have the crowdfunding thing is because unlike in America they don't seem to go through the investment thing the same way as Hasbro's trying to do here. If I'm wrong someone do correct me.

Great! I don’t care but if I’m wrong and it gives you some happiness then excellent. I have literally no stake in this. I’ve made some posts on a message board about a toy. Nothing could be less important. Again, I truly hope that you’re thrilled with the purchase.

They don't need to crowdfund this from an investment and product development/production perspective. They do it to engage the fan base and release properly exclusive figures at a premium price.

Well that makes all kinds of sense. Stop that so we can go back to wringing our hands and complaining about stuff.

Well Takara’s stance has always been to make “toon accurate” recolors of existing molds to sell with an ungodly up-charge as fan service for G1 enthusiasts.

And after seeing the prototype colors on Unicron I wouldn’t put it past them to release a “toon accurate” orange and grey color scheme for the G1 market.
But trust me, if y’all are bitching about the price for the Hasbro version, wait until you see what the Takara version will go for. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

If so, Haslab is dead. Star Wars fans are clamoring for a 3 3/4 Death Star or a Black Series to scale X-Wing. Haslab offers one of them for crowdfunding for $600. But people know they later sold the sail barge and/or Unicron after the funding period for those was over. So what’s the incentive to hop in and crowdfund? There isn’t one. And that’s it for Haslab. The legal speak covers them. But these are not coming to a store near you.

As someone that’s already backed Unicron, Hasbro should really give some additional details on this info. If not, they’ll likely see some impact on the NA crowdfund.

This raises several questions like will they be the same(unlikely)? Will it count in the 8000 (again unlikely)? What are the differences in price and finish? Differences in release dates?

Most people would want answers to these questions before they put down $600. Waiting around too long will just deter backers.

The way I read this rough translation is that TTM is working with the HasLab crowdfund to support the Japanese fanbase and secure more orders to complete the project.

That is, TTM is a Japanese proxy to the HasLab Crowdfund.

Orders will apparently go live starting the first day of the festival.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that - I doubt they expect people to put two and two together with this and worry about the correlation.

I will gladly eat crow if I turn out to be wrong, but these HasLab products will never hit retail. Like ever. It would make no sense telling people you can only get this product if you help crowdfund it, but then release said product at mass retail sometime down the line. Not only would that not make sense, but it’d sort of be a slap in the face to those that joined in on the crowdfunding under the assurance that the product was exclusive to them only. The only way to get Unicron after the funding deadline ends is through the aftermarket. And if you think $600 is expensive for this giant piece of plastic, just wait until the aftermarket sells it. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t happen, but I fully expect Unicron to go up for, at least, $1000 on places like eBay.

While I agree to some extent short term, I really don’t really see how many large scale fanwank products Hasbro can do with their brands that will hit the crowdfunding mark. Star Wars and GI Joe could go on for a while (if the Joe brand wasn’t currently dead), so unless they venture into smaller figures, what are they going to offer for transformers, an ark or deception ship? Wouldn’t be the first time that fans protested, or that they made similar products for the masses, and yet we keep coming back.

Oh I agree they probably won’t do it, I’m just saying they should or it’s going to impact backing for the NA release.

Heck, even those that have already backed appear to be able to cancel with a simple button click. I didn’t cancel mine but I’ll be watching the TT version closely. They almost alway improve on the Hasbro offering.

    I gotta be honest...

Upon trying to read your first paragraph, I straight up scrolled past all your possible points due to getting a headache.

Please use punctuation in the future. What has happened to the world where "@$!#&*-'":;,?%" isn't correctly used in sentence structure?

That being said - I'm a crowdfunder for things like this, but not for the amount... even for me, that would take 3 weeks to gather that as extra spendable/expendable cashflow.

    Sub'd, now who's buying 2?

Kinda weird now. So in the USA there have to be 8000 people who preorder this thing to even have it produced and Takara is like "hold my chopsticks", we will simply put it up as a mall exclusive and do not care how many pre-orders or not. Either hasbro is scared that not enough people will buy it to make it worth producing or they want to squeeze more out of it. I find 8000 a low number to be fair. There are far more collectors with a hefty purse out there than 8000 willing to put up a pre-order. It is just kinda pushy and anoying how Hasbro puts it. It is like 99% sure that it gets produced.
Btw would they really not make the figure if its stuck on 7750? Or what about 7500? If Takara is already producing it, and simply said the molds either already exist or are being made as we speak. This project is way beyond designer phase.

Honestly, it wouldn't bother me if this became available to more than just the backers. If they release this at retail, all the better. What would piss me off is if it's retailed at a much lower (and more reasonable) price after I commit $600 to this thing!

Pretty sure it is going to be the same figure. No differences in deco, no differences in finish. The only things that might vary will be price (more, definitely not less) and availabiltiy (later, definitely not earlier)

Takara obviously known for their repaints on retail releases. This isn't your typical retail release.
