At 19+ lbs. I don't call that Hollow. :lol

He weighs about the same as my Lewin Resources Prime and he's mostly Diecast.

So in essence bros. This Unicron is a shit-ton of plastic right there.

When you're pushing budget limits as is, those cost-cutting measures absolutely factor in. It's easy enough to say "just cover the holes", but if you think it through methodically, you're practically doubling the parts count of the hands, as every finger and joint needs to be two pieces instead of one. That in turn can result in another parts tree being required, if there are too many parts now to fit on just one mold. And if you have to cast a whole extra mold, then that's not just a few extra cents worth of plastic to factor into the cost, that's extra tens of thousands of dollars you need to factor into the production budget (plus additional assembly time), and the price tag goes up, and your prospective audience shrinks in kind.

If people want to continue to complain about various facets of this unreleased toy, that's fine. Like you said, it's just like any other major toy thread.

But the thing I don't understand about positions like yours is that you're all for criticism until someone criticizes your opinion. Then it's a full retreat into how your opinion is being suppressed by others and you're being victimized for speaking out.

Otherwise, painting things with a broad stroke like this doesn't really enhance the discussion you claim to value, and just seems an easy way to deal with being challenged. IMO, of course.

There’s criticism and then theirs just flat out ignoring what the person says and just saying “no”

I don’t see the discussion of “hey we could fix this” “no your wrong” as criticism.

I REALLY have no clue if I can justify backing this, especially being Canadian with the price of conversion (and who even knows for the shipping)... but if I do does anyone know if they accept Paypal?

More parts, yes - but worth it (at least to me) when the model gets this big.

Truthfully, we don't know what it would actually cost to add better hands, so saying it would or wouldn't add X amount is pointless. We don't know the profit margin. All we have to go on is how it looks - and I'm not one of the people saying "eh, good enough, take my $600".

How do you know that? The hands you guys are asking for requires extra tooling - you know, massive steel plates that cost thousands of dollars? The more parts you demand, such as two-part screwed and sealed pieces instead of three sided one part pieces, will only drive up the cost of the figure dramatically!

I don't collect TFs like I use to in the early 2000s and even dumped most of my collection in 2011 on ebay
So, I rarely come to Tfw2005 and follow Tfs news

that being said, I just saw a YT video by Michael Mercy and then came here and HasLab Unicron looks very damn awesome
even better than the unproduced prototype Beast Wars Neo Unicron by Takara

Since the deadline is August 31st, I will see if I can save up some cash.

Also, don't forget, if you guys pass on him now, the price will be double once Unicron is released. Like the Sail Barge

Again, nobody here knows how much it would cost to make better hands. It's not nothing, but I suspect it isn't a massive amount either. We just can't say.

It's really easy to say "no matter the cost" when you're already shelling out the big bucks for something like that, but even if the price tag gets pushed up an extra $25, to a nice round $600, that has ripple effects on projected outcomes. Massive psychological studies have been conducted on the art of perceived value, for the sake of optimizing sales prices and the like.

The main reason most price tags will end in ".99" or such is because, while the store is still effectively earning that whole dollar, shoppers' brains will tend to shortcut that and only pay attention to the whole dollar amount. $24(.99) is "better" than $25. Same thing here, just with the decimals bumped around a bit. Analysts have somehow determined that $575 is the breaking point where the design goals and desired revenue happily intersect. Push the price tag up to $600 and that big digit up front suddenly represents a massive psychological hurdle and the estimated number of buyers drops precipitously.

Are the paint apps final? I feel like the huge yellow parts could use some metallic gold, and the bluish-grey part of the planet’s crust is looking quite plain as well.

No, the paint apps are not final. This is a fully hand-painted, 3D-printed sample they're showing off at the moment.

I see your point, but if a collector who shells out 575 is effected by that, they should rethink collecting Expensive figures :p

Most people won't think it through analytically like that. That initial, knee-jerk reaction is a big deal.

So not counting repaints, How many Movie incarnations of Unicron have we actually gotten? Do you guys in all honesty hate this thing? I still honestly don't have any gripes or nitpicks. not yet. Since the toy doesn't actually exist in my hands yet. :lol

It seems to me most folks loved it until they saw that it needing backing and the price. Yes, the price should scare most casuals it even scares me.

But this is a more high end collectible right? and most of us are probably not used to paying such prices for the more high end items. I totally understand that. Trust me. It's just After 35 years of waiting for an ideal Unicron, what's wrong with being happy in wanting to own THIS Unicron?

I'm not rich by any means, but I'm moving things around to make sure this sucker is mine. I normally never do that with ANY Transformers stuff.

But this is Unicron. Unicron is as iconic to me as say, John Wayne or Elvis or the Beetles is to most people growing up on them.

This is as close to a perfect movie-centric Unicron as I think anyone will ever get in terms of a fully Transforming Planet version of Unicron.

It's breath taking to just sit there and stare at. I haven't been able to pick my jaw up off the floor ever since I saw these photos on my phone yesterday. and I can't stop watching the video either. IT's a truly awe inspiring and beautiful piece to me.

It heart-breaking to see people tearing it down so much. It's the only thing I dislike so much about the Fandom as a whole. I never see this with Gundam, Macross or He-Man people. not really nearly this bad. What happened to this fandom?

Anyway, I'll continue to praise this thing til my head explodes. It's too crazy to imagine for me and to process just how after all these years, we are finally getting this. We finally have the toy technology. It's finally time for Unicron to have the Spotlight as a high end collectible Transforming Transformer.
