Not really. It's common knowledge, based on various interviews and articles that Hasbro and TakaraTomy have provided, either during cons, or hobby magazine articles. We've known these things for years.

Simply, Hasbro technically serves as the design/concept lead for the main lines, since that's where their major market (traditionally) resided. TakaraTomy was more focused on the collector's market. So Hasbro would come up with their one-year brand strategy, implement it, and TakaraTomy would take their time to figure out how they wanted to tackle the material for the Japanese domestic market. That's largely gone away now post "brand-unification", although some lag time of a month or two usually still exists.

Gonna need empirical evidence here before diving any further on that. Most accounts on Soundwave, for example, were that he was pretty damned identical to the TT release, barring his yellow eyes, and reduced paint on the feet. The Seeker releases, meanwhile, were all over the place on both sides of the pond. Original MP-3 "Green-Scream" was generally regarded as a mess, while Hasbro's G1 repaint/Wal-Mart release was much better received. I had both on that account, and Hasbro's certainly felt much tighter. TT MP-11 Starscream was pretty notorious for having rather loose torso sliders. Fixed, in my experience, with Skywarp and Thundercracker. No idea how the Hasbro releases of that mold revision fared.

Is there much difference between an F-ing toy verse an F-ing gun or F-ing guitar or F-ing carburetor or F-ing camera lens? Lots of hobbies out there get expensive. There are means to manage the cost. For example PayPal Credit offers 6 month 0% interest financing on purchases over $99. That's a bit more manageable for regular guys.

Or, y'know, the $600 worth of booze or tobacco that folk tend to consume over the course of a year and frequently regret in the following moments.

Depends in part on the scope of his original contract for TFTM and what it permits (assuming Hasbro were to license actual clips from the movie). Where he died may also play into it. Looks like it was California, which recognizes posthumous right of publicity - so there’s almost certainly some estate or licensing company that controls his image and voice and would put its hand out.

So here's a thought that may have been covered already but I'm not going through 90+ pages to check.

If this guy gets funded, do you think we'll see him made later on for the overseas markets? By that point the mold will have been paid for, and I honestly can't see this guy not being reissued again in other parts of the world that this crowdfund didn't include.

If I recall, that number was extremely limited, though. And there was no work-around if you were a US buyer and wanted to buy one through their ebay sale. I'd recommend any international member who wants to get in on this to go to a Star Wars site like jeditemplearchives and ask how some of the international buyers there were able to acquire the sail barge. I only mention that site in particular because the guy who runs it was/is a big supporter of the Haslab Sail Barge project.

Yeah, they basically said they would probably do that.
It all depends on how many people dive in on this initial run.
I don't blame anyone for NOT jumping on board, but if it gets a ton of support they'll make it more available (MAYBE even more affordable, down the road.)

I wasn't going to support this, at first. I guffawed at the very idea.
But then I saw more pics.
    I watched the little video.
I felt like some real care and passion was being put into this...
Then I realized it's not a huge amount more expensive than some of my favorite pieces I've picked up over the years: Maketoys Utopia, that Macross SDF-1 I bought in 2010 for $400 when I really shouldn't have but has been one of the best things I own and brings me joy to this day....
So, I figured, this Unicron seems like it also will. So, COWABUNGA, surf's up!
I'll just keep him away from any Matrix user figures, last thing I need is them opening those Damn things to make Unicron explode. :D

I reckon we’ll eventually see a wider run if it gets funded. Once R&D is recouped, the net profit on each unit must be significant. The biggest challenge is shipping and distribution given the weight.

$575 is the retail price for a brand new Unicron? This is a joke right?

I love this. I want this. But. Priorities. I planned sometime at the beginning of the year that I was going to save for MP44. That plan is still in effect. I'm more than halfway there. To switch it up now for Unicron would be logical seeing as he is (by my standard anyway) a better bang for my buck than MP44. However. Priorities. MP36 has been waiting a long, long time for a more accurate arch nemesis and I can't stear my gaze away from the first and original prize now because the much dreamed about Unicron can potentially happen. It's not fair.

Anyway, I'm sticking to my plan. Unicron... may have to happen at some other point down the line. I can wait. Besides, he won't see the light of day until 8000 backers are behind him and when it's the year 2021. Soooo... I'll play the waiting game and potentially suffer more for it. I don't care. They should've planned the scheme behind this better as many have pointed out.
