He walked away from MI6 at the end of the last movie. So Lynch's character joins the ranks of the other 6 people of 00 status who are apparently as accomplished as Bond but never show up in the other movies.

This headline seems designed to enrage people who can't read very well. Oh well. I liked the way Spy Who Loved Me did the Bond Girl dynamic, and have always wondered why they haven't tried it again.

Didn't care about the headline, but finding out the new writer of the movies has me worried.

    This is a doozie

If this movie will show Bond retiring for real and give his code number to another character, then I'll be okay with it as long as the new character isn't nsmed Bond. We saw M getting replaced so I won't say it's something we never saw before, but this will take time to get used to.

Especially with the writer of Solo here...

Which makes him more like the original character, not less.

Same here. And on a side note, there was a female 00 agent as far back as Connery's Thunderball. So this isn't even a new idea.

Actually, the highest number we've seen is 0011, so there's potentially way more than seven 00 agents. Mostly, it just depends on how many are alive at a given time.

He's also beaten up women on numerous occasions, slapped women around for information (even the lighter Roger Moore version has done this, along with threatening to break a woman's arm), purposely used women as human shields to take a bullet, dart or sap meant for him, and usually allowed one woman who helped him per movie to die. Which is of course leaving aside how disposably he treats them as sexual release.

To me Bond was more of a designation, not his actual name. Therefore this casting doesn’t bother me as much as others.

I’m willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

Screw what I just said- it’s gonna suck.

I'm totally fine with a new person playing 007, as it is just a code name, as long as her name isn't Bond at all. But then I'd have to wager/hope that the franchise is renamed to just 007? Although maybe she's Bond's daughter somehow? He was a man-whore after all.

There is a comic from aftershock comics called Jimmy's Bastards that has a similar concept of a bond type spy finding out he has kids....lots of them....who plot revenge on him and try to take over the world in one of the weirdest ways possible.

Well, people have been saying Bond is outdated since the 90s (M called him a sexist misogynist dinosaur in Goldeneye), and Skyfall/Spectre was basically telling the critics that Bond is still relevant in the modern era of drones and cyber intelligence and that sometimes, we still need a person there to do the wet work.

I’m guessing they’re doing this to test out if the idea works at all; social media can be deceiving at times.

For me, 007 is too synonymous with the name james bond for it to be applied to another name. Even if it was male and a different character, it just wouldn't work for me. It would be like star trek having a ship with the registry 1701 but not an Enterprise. Mind you, to me, there hasn't been a bond film since die another day. While each actor puts their own spin on the character, it's always been the same core characteristics. Craig bond feels like a Bourne knockoff, not a bond. And were pretty dull IMO. Skyfall was fine, for generic spy. How can we even call 25 a bond film if he's barely in it?

I was saying this the other week. I miss spy movies that have fun with it. Crazy gadgets, fast action, over the top plots and a spy who leaves all their emotional personal life at home. Mission impossible series seems to be the only ones that give us spy movies to entertain. And maybe the last couple fast and furious.

I'm going to disagree there. Craig is most definitely closer to the original books than Brosnan and Moore ever were. The only reason Connery would be closer is because Fleming started to adapt Connery's mannerisms and background into the last few books.

Also, the Jason Bourne movies ripped off James Bond, so of course the newer ones are going to feel like Bourne movies.

To be fair, Bond did not have crazy gadgets in the books either. That was added for the cinematic experience and while cool, it was also a bane on the movies since it meant Bond could pull out any gadget that was necessary to accomplish his task.

Same reason we can still call The Dark Knight Rises a Batman film despite barely having Batman in it.[/QUOTE]

Oh I'm well aware of the book/film points. But I'm talking cinematic bond. He's had enough movies to establish himself as his own character. And that's who I've grown up with. Craig being closer to the books is good for those who like the book bond more, but sorry, not my bond. That's why i put the emphasis that it was to me. And at least we saw him get those gadgets at the start of the film, so we knew what he had on him. He didn't just magically pull them out.

Tdkr may not have had a lot of batman, but it still had plenty of bruce wayne, who is the same character. If bruce was barely in it and drake had all the screentime, then it would be comparable. And I'd ask the same question then.

A popular theory among non-fans and casual viewers who only paid half attention to what they were watching and fuzzy half-memories of something they maybe saw once on late night tv as a child.

    Seriously.
