I've spent the last few weeks slowly transforming all my MP collection (still not finished). It has transformed my display (Pun intended) and given an extra appreciation to figures.

I have at some point gotten tired of it all due to not seeing the whole big picture down the road. It's just basically due in part of the constant fight with resellers and collectors as well hoarders that NEVER leave a figure on the shelf for another. Which when you look at it,....it's also part reseller blood bonding too. I've went so far to see what everything is worth and sell it all nothing left. Then those days pass and it gets too being a brighter day as i get lucky to find THAT 1 figure i really needed. So it DOES have its up and down moment in this hobby.

I've been feeling lately like I may be done. I've noticed that I take more enjoyment in hunting for and buying a new figure than I do in actually owning any of said figures. I may be happy with a figure when it first comes in the mail, but that enjoyment has become a shorter and shorter amount of time. Most days I don't even go upstairs to look at my display, and it's even less often that I actually take out a figure to play with. Lately I've been trying to figure out if there is just one figure I can keep and get rid of the rest so I can be done, but every figure makes me feel like I would need to shop for something else that "goes with it". I'm pretty sure that it this point I'm just addicted to the high of spending money, which is not something I want to keep doing.

I’m not done by far, but I’m getting tired of never having fun money for other things. It was good when I was depressed, Transformers collecting is exellent if expensive therapy, but now I want to climb, paint etc, not insulate my walls with toys.

I’m longing to downsize my collection severely. As of now I feel I can’t enjoy the individual bots because there’s too many of them. It hurts deciding who goes and who stays, but I’m keeping the ones I mess with or look at the most only.

For me the interest is still there but I will be done sooner than later. I only collect MP figs and of that, I only collect season 1 characters. I also have a MP BW collection, but I am no completionist with regards to it.
Once I have all my season one complete, I will be done. As for my BW collection, well I only have a few more characters that I want.
Beyond that, I will just buy any Sideswipe that is released from any toy line.
Oh yeah...I also collect Daredevil figures and I will never stop doing that... It will be every on going.

With S1 and S2 mostly done in an MP scale, I just don't buy as much. I find myself eyeing wierd one-off bots or oversize KOs, but I have been pretty good about turning away. I just don't have room to buy everything I like. Hoping for a mostly complete S3 and some Headmasters guys over the next couple years, but who knows.

When the hell did this happen, what caused it and how did you manage to get rid of all of it, was it in bits or one go? I'm very curious because you used to be quite the collector!?

There are times I consider quitting with everything new and just commit to 80's toys. I get so caught up in trying to keep up with current stuff that I don't often have money left over to pick up any 80's jems. And the few times I do get something good from the 80's, I appreciate it a gazillion times more than all my recent buys. I just recently got the rest of the figures with helmets I needed for my Panosh Place Voltron. That felt real good completing. I was also contemplating selling off my MP Star Saber because I later was able to get a vintage G1 Star Saber and now the MP one isn't as exciting to me.

no but i'm getting bored and peeved at how slow things are now ! we had a period of being bombarded from all sides with masterpiece type figures which is now down to every company taking their sweet time to release anything

this includes takara ! i'm honestly happy for those getting mp beastwars but we could have got a lot more g1 molds if they had not decided on doing other mp figures.. what g1 molds they are doing they are taking ages about and done 2 characters they have already visited in the line ( not including the + figures as they are just tweeked existing molds ) and i'm betting anything next year will be the same another character(s) redone ie: starscream/seekers

For me...it ebbs and flows. These days however I've found myself questioning whether I need to have all these robots more often than before. I will always love Sunbow G1 and cherish it as the true and only relevant incarnation of transformers but I ask myself regularly these days if I really need all these robots. I somehow think I would be happier if I just culled it to just the figures I really liked, these MP's being MP-36, MP-22, MP-13, MP-17, MP-33, MP-35, MP-21, MP-30, FT-31A and FT-10 along with the inevitable MP Jazz, Galvatron, Skywarp and Rodimus Prime from TT and the inevitable Technobots from FT. I feel I would be much happier.

But the strange thing is whenever I get a great figure like Megatron or FT-31A in my grubby hands all these thoughts are dispelled and then I get reminded of why I love these robots. But I know myself, the fact that I keep buying them means I must still enjoy this hobby because I tend to be the kind of guy who will just walk away from something the moment I lose interest. I guess it also helps that I'm not a completist and I'm very picky and stingy and don't do the whole TF community/customization stuff of this hobby so it's not as taxing to me as it is to others. But as I was saying earlier looking at the list of my absolute must haves stated above I don't see myself buying robots deep into the future, I can see myself being done in about 3 years so I'm gonna enjoy the ride until I feel it's time to get off.

I'm a collector by nature, so I'll always be on the hunt for something or other.

If i stopped buying Transformers tomorrow, I could get back to finishing my G.I. Joe collection and/or another 80s toyline, or get back into pen and paper gaming, or get another guitar, etc.. Transformers, and toys in general, are just a secondary hobby for me. It helps to have a few concurrent interests, so when one gets a little tedious or mundane you can continue another easily without having this abrupt break.

I made that mistake when I was younger, where I'd just sell everything off, and just start a new hobby from scratch but when my interest rekindled in the old one months or years later it was always awful finding everything again. I'm super thrifty, so if I paid $10 for something once, I won't pay $15 if I need to rebuy it. Instead, I'll wait, even if it takes years, to get it at the $10 price again.

I think the more accurate way to put it is the hobby is loosing interest in me. There is very little coming out I want to buy. I Have also hit a point where I do recognize less looks better. Stacking bots assholes to elbows isn’t a good look, the thinner my display areas are the better they look. So to that end I have been trying to thin out heard by selling select pieces. I’ve also let go of displaying chug and Mp in the same room. Multiple lines even though not in the same display space feels somewhat cringy.

The heat is definitely off the MP fever. My wallet is thankful for the break of getting boxes almost weekly usually with more then 1 thing in it. It was fun though. I guess it was a lot more affordable when Mp cars where $70 and a fanstoys Iron dibot was the most expensive thing I’d buy. I just canceled a $375 prime because of a flamestoys $450 prime I might buy. Then I thought to myself no.... that price point for any prime is silly. So in this case, my interest is there but I haven’t bought yet.

Yeah I feel you, these days I mostly just lurk since I’m tentatively moving to Asia next year, and buying stuff is just purchases I’ll have to discard soon. But I also have grown weary with stacking up “stuff” so I mostly just get excited for new reveals and TFcon. Rare to make a purchase although I did succumb to ft’s Jet fire at re-release a few months ago... :(

Just gonna finish XTB Menasor, and if MT head/targetmasters come out. GT Defensor taking too long. And will keep an eye out for Zeta Trains, but that's about it. And last 2 Mospeada cyclones.

Yes and no. All I’ve really cared for a representations of my favorite characters, and save for a few that have not been made, I’m pretty satisfied with my collection.

With that said, my office/ toy room is very crowded and I am getting to the point where I want to streamline so that it isn’t so busy in their. Mind you, I’m also a huge X-men fan and MOTU, so I’ve had to condense those collections as well

I’m still interested in completing my mp collection but in no rush. I will say that the last few MPs I’ve gotten from hydra onward haven’t been transformed
