It sounds to me like your problem solved itself before you even had it! That's why I never really talked about it, there wasn't much to talk about. In fact you just did such a great job of spelling out how your problem solved itself I can't understand why you even brought it up except to dig at G1.

I didn't see any glaring faction symbols on the Movie version in this set, or the one sitting on my desk's alt mode. If you had a different context to make with that statement aside from digging at G1, I guess I might have misunderstood.

 

Well theyre billing this new version as being "movie accurate". Besides a few petty paint app differences the real takeaway seems to be the faction symbols matter that much to some people. Some people want them so bad that they will spend $100 and get stuck with another G1 Prime. (Does anyone not own at least one by now ?) Hello guys, Reprolabels exist !!! But in all seriousness, im voicing my displeasure on factiin symbols being the main selling point of this figure. It makes me wonder if certain minor "less accurate" paint apps were applied to the studio series version on purpose. Just to make people go all in on this version 6 months later. Kinda shady Hastak....yes I said Hastak because they are joined at the hip and can barely be considered 2 seperate entities after the brand unification. This set isnt for the "Japanese market". Its for the suckers market.

 

Literally, no one is this thread is saying they're going to buy this figure just because they added in the faction symbols. Even the product page says the main selling point is the fact that it emulates the original G1 toy. It seems like a fake argument you came up with once your previous argument failed. If people want to get this, people will buy it based on a combination of things like the new retro-style box, the brighter and slightly more movie-accurate paint applications, and the added factions symbols (as part of the combination—not as being the sole reason).

No, that's not true. If you look at the original concept art for Bee Movie Prime, the original SS figure has the same exact paint scheme. We've known for years that the movie toys are designed off of original concept since they're designed very early on in production.

I low key dig the bright colored movie Optimus. Wasn\'t a big fan of dark color of the original figure.  But for that price? Yeeeeesh....  

 

I'm genuinely confused here. Hasbro Prime was $50. Hasbro's Ectotron was $40-50. Takara's G1 Prime (with a uniquely different box) and SS-38 (also with said box, even more so since it never before existed) retail for $100 and it's a damn traveshamockery.

I'm going to say I'm honestly not sure how long you've been in the fandom, but you clearly missed the fiasco that was the 7 decos of the previous Voyager Evasion Mode Prime. Each of them had elements of what was actually on the screen, but none of them ever totally got it right. The Transformers toy line has really never.. ever been one that gets decos right the first time around, or sometimes even the 4th or 5th. It's almost like someone in the company makes a perfect toy and then they put it in some computer program that randomly chooses a part of the deco and/or a part of the figure and makes it wrong.

Monkey wrists/gorilla arms, no tail lights, no weapons, all black tires on sports cars, wrong color fists, wrong color eyes. These are little ones..
Then you have my favorite extra plastic added to stop hinges/kibble from moving out of the way which as soon as you scrape it off the part gains full range of movement. The wrist guards on that one RID 2015 Optimus, the hood on the Combiner Wars Dead End mold, the roof/windshield on POTP Rodimus's inner Hot Rod. These are just ones I remember off hand.

If you're going to be a collector of Transformers you have to be able to deal with the shenanigans. Even if they are crap.

And as you can see from the reactions in this thread TF collectors vote well with them wallets.

SS38 Optimus colors are very flat red as seen in the comparison pics! What are you looking at? LMAO.
As far as I see, the new Takara Tomy G1 boxed version of SS38 is the one with vibrant red!

 

Well I started collecting again in 2007 when the movie got me into it. I grew up with G1 in the 80s. But im well aware of the Hasbro shenanigans. They never really did get evasion mode primes deco right. The closest one came in a 3 pack with two crappy unnecessary repaints. I stuck with Takaras "movie best" version because it seemed to reflect what I saw on the screen in robot mode pretty well. In my opinion the white paint in his truck mode seemed to mostly disappear in robot mode minus a few very small pannels. I dont think an accurate deco was possible in both modes. I guess they couldnt find a beat up red truck in that style and it wasnt in the budget to paint it G1 and put fake rust all over it.

On the topic, I'd drop 75 on it, but not 100. That New Prime is a sweet mold, even if that bloody front grill never, ever sits even. From the word go, It is all I would have ever asked for in a live action Optimus.

 

Probably gonna have to agree to disagree with you. The few comments I read seemed to pretty much embrace the faction symbols. But I dont read every comment. And I definitely dont follow every piece of concept art as it gets released. Theres way too much to keep up with. I dont follow the history of colors proposed to deco primes crotch.

 

Simple. Too bright and pastel toon for this design, to me.
I've got SS38 and this red isn't as dull and flat as in those photos. Closer to the actual movie truck red, tho.

 

me too. I love the G1-esque, updated, modern Prime design for the BB live action movie. Best highlight and cameo by Prime in a long shot.

 

Agreed. $60 would be my ideal paying price. But 100, especially when I’m gonna need that in AUD it’s a lot when I could be buying Berserkars.

 

Because I'm pretty new to the Japanese exclusives business, which shop would you suggest to buy this set? I hear TTMall doesn't ship overseas.
