No, because it just looks better on real life 21st century alt modes (and robot kibble) without the faction symbols. It works for the 80's cartoon robots, not so much in modern real life. Do you wear your Burger King shirt when you go out everywhere you go ? Or wouldn't you prefer to be a flipper in disguise ?

Here's a side by side comparison with the original release.

I think I like the colors on this new one more.

yup. This is the only way TT can release their repainted version not via "Brand Unification"line aka Studio Series! :p

Neat, but too rich for my blood.

I guess it's Optimus Prime, so... SAFE. UPCHARGED. SELLS WELL. :rolleyes2

Am I the only one who thinks HasTak is relying too hard on Optimus to carry the entire brand? I mean, it wouldn't kill the company to popularize a new character... (though, it'd probably kill the G1 fans! :lol ). Such a safety-blanket character! :banghead:

Looks good. Price isn't that crazy if you consider that the MSRP for voyagers in Japan is close to 50 dollars anyway.

The G1 figure doesn't look like it suffers from the shitty eye paint and bright red and blue plastic of the US release. Could just be a stand in though.

The great paradox of being "in disguise." You still have to be identifiable to the people you're aligned with in combat situations, Especially since they seemed to slowly trickle in at random. And even the Transformers themsevles being "in disguise" only goes so far. Once they transform and start wrecking cities that kind of goes out the window. IF there was public trust in the Autobots in the movieverse wearing the faction sigil would be more of a rallying cry. Symbols serve more purposes than just to say who you are.

If someone considers BK as a company worth being proud of then who knows, maybe they would. Oh I forgot about sports teams, now that's masterful use of symbols as a rallying cry. Besides in the films, it's not exactly like the faction symbols were very often glaringly obvious painted all over a hood or anything.

While you have given plenty of legit examples of faction symbols, the one thing you just cant seem to tackle is that they just dont look as cool in live action films as they did in that damn 80s cartoon. Thats probably why for the most part Michael Bay left them out of so many characters. Im trying to think of examples and they are far and few. Mixmasters barrel, bumblebees helmet, a mold on ironhides tailgate, starscreams tattoos. Other than that, not a whole lot. Michael Bay was very careful where he put them to avoid making it look goofy. It almost seemed like he made faction symbols like a sort of patriotism for their faction rather than a standard requirement. That worked so much better.

I do agree, like they fixed the crotch's paint but the grey it's just flat, and the colors overrall are too anime-ish for the mold they're using. I dunno.

    But the boxes are tempting.

Still asking too much for this guy without a trailer imo, and SS38, new paint job or no, isn\'t with *50* bucks MSRP,  that\'s a figure that was already too expensive for what it is with a figure given a 20 buck mark up

already have both and they are both great, pass but def good for people who never got a chance to get the original one. My original one is still in good to very good condition so no need for this reissue

The G1 version is basically the recent hasbro walmart release with higher smoke stacks...?

i like the idea of the other in the G1 box but not interested in the figure itself. still a nice thing to do by takara (the presentation and all).

It does say that, but all the changes have made him very accurate to the film.

Does the TT Mall store allow for shipping to the USA? If so, how much does it typically cost?

Purdy boxes but I like darker and less flat colors on the SS Optimus more.

The irony of this SS Prime is that it has colors that I would've expected Hasbro to use with the brighter red/blue, light grey(reminds me a little of 2007 Target exclusive Robo Vision Prime) prior to brand unification. Meanwhile I think the normal SS38 Prime as is, features the deco I would've expected Takara to use pre-brand unification.
