Didn't MAAS say the test model is 10-12% oversized due to 'the manufacturing process' & that it will be a more sensible size in production? I think I read that in comments on their Facebook page.
This review states in title it's the test (prototype) model. So there's a chance it will be corrected.

 

Is there any paint on it? I'm assuuming givien the materials and price, it's just bare plastic.

It' made of Rotocast Vinyl so it will a slightly more complicated painting process. AFAIK, you nee to use Acrylics to avoid melting the surface. So an Acrylic Primer before you can apply Lacquer or Enamel. Unfortunately Acrylics don't always have great adhesion and on Vinyl could be a struggle as well. Painting should be feasible but results may vary.

Incidentally, I think MAAS really need to look into where they are getitng their products made. Unless they were going seriously overboard with the number of panels and details, $150 seems excessive. Given products like Lwein Resources Prime, X2 Big Computer Teletraan, even WeiJiang Omega... there's is no way in hell a piece this size should cost $150. Given companies can make MP-36/MP-10 sized transformable figures with paint, electronics, lights etc with far higher parts counts, for less than that? This isn't the first time I've seen price estimates from MAAS toys like this. I guess they aren't able to access the same kind of cheaper manufacturing facilities a lot of other 3P companies can?

Certainly hope so. I was wondering if this was larger than the original renders and earlier tests as MP-36 did seem to fit better on it.

If the final is sized more appropriately I think I'll be in on this. It will make a nice display piece one day (if I ever find enough room) The Autobots can be gathered around Teletraan 1 (X2 Toys Big COmputer) and the Decpeticons can be hangingf around Megatrons throne.

This is a great write up!

But what I meant was that using a very soft plastic would help avoid hard edges scratching paint on the figures sitting in it.

 

This is about the same type of mistake as FP's Dinoking shells being vinyl.

 

Any updated ETA on this? TCP still has it scheduled for Nov 2018, I'm pretty sure we missed that....

Maybe another 3P can pick up where they left off and gift MP-36 his ultimate purple crapper!

 

Given how many people MAAS screwed over, I doubt any other company would want to touch their stuff with a ten-foot pole.

 

Not their version but another company's own take on it perhaps. It would still make a fantastic accessory to pose a pointing MP36, and with the gap in the market, hopefully another throne will surface.

 

I've seen 3D print files for a Decepticon throne available for free, so there are options if you want to fill that gap.
