I would really love to see Steven DeKnight direct a Transformers movie. I was one of the few people who thought Pacific Rim 2 was great, I'd even argue a bit better than the first film. A lot of people who dislike it don't like the fast-moving robots and the over-the-top action. Even if you didn't like it in Pacific Rim, I think it would work well in Transformers, they usually move and fight fast anyway. DeKnight seems to have a good grasp on creating memorable and instantly likable characters, which is something I feel like the first film struggled with. (I always say the first film had better supporting characters, and the second had better protagonists). I think he'd do a good job handling robot characters and human characters.

A Christopher Nolan Transformers film would be a nightmare. If fans complain about Bay's movies being too "real-world" (with the military/government subplots and all), Nolan would really go overboard with that. I imagine he'd do something similar to Spielberg's early ideas (at least I think it was Spielberg). Transformers that don't have dialog, that sort of thing. I could even see him doing away with affiliations, and just making them all generic invaders who fight against the military. I feel like a Christopher Nolan Transformers movie would be so non-Transformers, that Hasbro wouldn't even approve his pitch. I just can't see him doing a traditional/cartoon-inspired Transformers story. I mean, can you imagine Nolan crafting a movie with a robot named "Bumblebee" or "Starscream" in it? Transformers is too cartoony to fully "realistic-ify", Bay's style is about the closest you can get while still keeping the fundamentals intact. And I don't think we'll even see that again, now that Hasbro is taking more control.

We really need someone like Steven DeKnight, Travis Knight, or maybe the guy who did the new Godzilla or Kong: Skull Island to do Transformers. Someone who isn't afraid to be nerdy, weird, and to have fun. And for better or worse, they'll probably need to take orders from the higher-ups. Transformers really isn't the type of franchise that lends itself to auteurs and artsy (or pretentious) filmmakers. Dare I say, even someone like JJ Abrams (who I really dislike) would probably put out a more entertaining Transformers film.

 

I liked Kong Skull island but am not sure about the director. He went on a Twitter rampage after Cinema sins made a video about Skull island...

Steven De Knight are an awful Director, you can refer Pacific Uprising, the whole direction of the movie was a mess.. What a waste for Pacific Rim Sequel... Actually the movie got so much potential.. Travis Knight also not really experience in great action movie, many Directors out there are better than them.

 

Travis Knight is great! He led the franchise in the right direction, and stuck close to the source material. Bumblebee’s choreography was also smart, as it used clever moves. The characters used their alt-modes in battle, and used martial arts instead of banging into each other. What I’m saying is, inexperienced doesn’t mean bad.

I dunno. I think this smaller scale movies have more potential. Kinda feel like the big blogbuster/end of the world/ full of explosions stuff is kinda dull and people are tired of seeing it.

 

I liked Godzilla King of the Monsters, maybe that director? He gave the monsters a good amount of screen time...

 

No. I don't think he'd be interested to begin with.

 

I know not everyone is a fan of his films but I'd like Joseph Kosinski to take a crack at a Cybertron-set film!

 

Wes Anderson doing a Transformers film would be amazing. But everyone, including 99% of TF fans, would HATE it. Wes Anderson has one of the most distinct styles in filmmaking and it’s very niche. I think he would make an awesome suitmation kaiju movie though.

 

Funny thing, I heard Hasbro wants Kosinski to direct the Optimus Prime film.

 

That would actually be dope! Paramount and Hasbro should totally do it!

 

Yikes, no. The action scenes had as much shaky cam as the first few Bayformers and the human element was terrible. I don't want Bayformers again.

I only remember shaking camera when it was close on humans, but steady camera for the wide monster shots. I didn't mind the human element. With the transformers being more so characters than monsters, with the ability to speak, they can focus on them more and only use shaky camera with scenes of humans trying to survive. I think the right amount of shaking is good in those scenes, giving a sense of the danger the humans are in.
