Honestly, i like the idea of Xavier being like an over protective father, especially after the Snap, and the X-men/Mutants at his school simply going all rebellious to show him how much they have grown over the past 10 years. All these Superheroes popping up, alien invasions, i like the idea of Xavier simply trying to keep them safe, and while for a few years that would work (depending on the age they set the new mutant cast, early/mid 20's would work for this scenario, as they would of been 10-15 10 years prior) eventually they would want to help and get out of Xaviers bubble. Probably the best way they could do it without completely screwing things up.
I agree, which is why I think they should just leave the X-Men over there on their own - they’re a roster for a movie series unto themselves with the villains the match - and the MCU can use the Inhumans......well, Kamala Khan and Lockjaw anyway.
Isn’t this basically how the X-Men arrived on the scene in the 60s? Marvel already had a ton of superheroes running around for years & then they introduced this new team that had apparently been laying low until then. And mutants were already a fact of the Marvel universe but never mentioned before the debut of the X-Men comic. So it works out pretty good. Just do like that.
I assume what that means is that Disney had certain revenue forecasts, and that the acquisition of Fox Studios/adding Dark Phoenix to its roster was part of that financial plan. Because the film underperformed, their targets weren't met. It certainly wasn't their budget that went into the film, but Hollywood accounting can be... creative.
And how. ~$200M budget (plus god knows how much was spent on the reshoots), with only $250M worldwide to show for it. It absolutely lost money. It's probably $250-300M in the red.
Exactly. Phoenix's projected revenues would've been used to offset that in the books. But instead, the film went Waterworld, and that's $3-400M that their accounting is in the red for.

We finally watched this, and to my surprise, I really liked it. Some of the action scenes could have used some work, but overall, it really worked for me. It was a lot better than Apocalypse, and after seeing Captain Marvel twice, I can say that I prefer Dark Phoenix to that, as well.
Yeah this was a weird one for me. I personally found it terrible - even worse than expected... and that was already bad - BUT it absolutely was, hilariously, still better than Apocalypse. You're 100% correct on that. Don't know if I'd say it was better OR worse than Captain Marvel, but it's certainly on equal ground in way of underwhelming meh (for me). I can see how this COULD have been a good movie, though. If the dialogue was better, if the editing was waaaay better (too many long silence shots with nothing but mundane facial expressions and hands twisting 'doing mutant stuff'), and as usual, if Always Sniping Blue Walking Hashtag just wasn't in it.
May I ask how you found Simon Kirnberg's direction, and how if possible you could compare Dark Phoenix to the other X-Films (specifically The Last Stand)?
Yeah, I figured I’d be an anomaly on this one. The only thing I can agree with you on, is it being better than Apocalypse. But I legitimately liked it. Maybe after a second viewing my feelings will diminish a bit, I don’t know. Again, your mileage may vary, but I actually thought he did a good job with everything, except for maybe the action bits. The story and “drama” actually worked really well to me. Even a certain death was done better than I was expecting. It’s obviously not the best thing Fassbender has ever done, but it is some of the better acting I’ve seen from him in other recent things. I still hate that Hank “hulks out” to become Beast. It’s especially lame now that End Game gave us a Banner that is now permanently the Hulk, but Beast can’t be Blue Beast the whole time. I just wish it would have kept whatever the original ending was. Oh well. DOFP is actually my fav X-Men movie, so this will not beat that. But this was certainly better than the Last Stand (besides Beast — I’d take Kelsey Grammers’ Beast over Hoult any day of the week).
No no, I might not agree, but I get it. Like I said, I can see how it could have been much better - the potential definitely was there. More so than I originally thought, to be honest. That said, to me, it was more or less just the "new cast" equivalent of X3: Last Stand in way of being another sorta phoned in sequel that inexplicably tries to cover all things Jean/Phoenix - dark or otherwise - in one movie almost out of nowhere because of little to no proper foreshadowing in previous installments. And all the same beats were there again: someone tried to control/tame her once she went 'bad' AGAIN, we were back at her house for an intervention showdown AGAIN, she kills a mentor AGAIN, she lays mass waste by turning her hands AGAIN, and then knows she has to die AGAIN. That would be fine if there was a mandate for following the comics and whatever else, but this just felt like it was following X3 with some swaps here & there. And it wasn't anywhere drastically different and "finally done right" as initially claimed. Haha BUT again, it was indeed STILL better than Apocalypse. Despite what I consider a lot of writing shortcomings with it, I'll still always stand by that DOFP should have been the (Fox) franchise finale. The time travel aspect might have been weak, but there's no denying how enjoyable and just epic it was, especially when successfully tying two casts together. It's a shame that that couldn't have been the high note they went out on as an ensemble, with Logan being the best epilogue ever.
I saw it twice in theaters and loved every second of it. Then again, I loved Apocolypse. I think that I love the x-men characters so much I'm going to enjoy anything about them. Yes, it has flaws. A lot of them. But I'm not going to let that diminish my joy in seeing these great characters. And the action in this movie!! It was so good.
