Love it, hate it, or really hate it, there's no denying that this movie had a huge impact on our fandom, for better or for worse.

Sure it gave us "Give Me Your Face" and "I am directly below the enemy scrotum".... but it also gave us some memorable fight scenes and unique robot designs that are still getting new toys today.

As an 8 year old in 2009, watching this movie in the theatre was a transcendent experience. All of the dirty jokes flew over my head as I was completely immersed in the movie. I spent months afterwards recreating scenes with my toys and reading about the lore from the guidebooks. I spent the longest time thinking this movie was unironically a masterpiece. of course, i still think it's a masterpiece now, abeit for completely different reasons than I used to.

Anyone else have any good ROTF stories? I'd love to hear them!

Wow, it's hard to believe it's been 10 years. I didn't see ROTF in theaters (I actually didn't see it in it's entirety until last year), but my main memories of ROTF are of the toyline. I remember going to Walmart for the toy release, back when toy releases were an event, with a proper release day and all. Now they just sort of release toys whenever the store gets them (I think Star Wars still does release days). That was also when stores stocked TONS of toys instead of just ten or so. Seriously, the racks were literally bulging with probably a hundred deluxe-class figures (at least), and probably fifty more on a separate shelf. That was probably the largest stock of toys I ever saw, aside from maybe the Revenge of the Sith toy release.

I got Scavenger and Rampage on the first day, and picked up Soundwave a few weeks later. Then Sideswipe after that. I loved those toys. Later that year, wave 2 and 3 released at the same time at my Walmart. I remember being absolutely furious because I wanted to buy a figure from that wave, but I didn't have any money. I was so mad at my parents for not being able to afford it (this was during the really bad years of the recession). When I was finally able to get one, I chose Mudflap, which was an awful toy. I don't know why I didn't get Wheelie, that's the one I recall wanting. Maybe those sold out. Or I just changed my mind, I was kind of washy washy, and made several other last-minute judgement calls on toys.

I also have a funny Scalpel story. Scout Class Scalpel was a figure I really wanted. It must have been somewhat rare, because I rarely saw it in stores. Eventually I finally found one, and bought it. Unfortunately, a piece was missing, so I returned it. This was back in 2009. Last year (2018), I told this story to a friend who likes Transformers. He actually remembered seeing my returned Scalpel on Wal-Mart shelves. We knew it was the same one because it was terribly re-packaged, and they never restocked after that.

When it 1st came out, I remember there being 2 camps of people
1 - IRL people who told it was better than the 1st one and that I should go see it
and 2 - internet people telling Me how terrible it was and ripping apart all of its flaws
with nothing to say of the actual plot or story.

I remember seeing it in cinemas when I was 6. Even back then I always thought Revenge of The Fallen was garbage. Though not for Leo, Shia, the enemy scrotum or the twins...

    But for her ^

I literally closed my eyes and shit my pants when that scene came, and they stayed that way until Rampage’s fight with Bumblebee. I refused to rewatch the film for about 5 years thanks to her, and she pretty much ruined the whole film for me.

Fortunately, now that I’m not as much of a pussy as I was as a kid I rewatched the film to see how my taste in cinema’s changed over the years. In retrospective, I think the film was okay. It wasn’t perfect, but at the very least I felt entertained by it. The forest fight was one of the most amazing scenes in the whole franchise, I enjoyed the amazing toys it produced, and as a whole it was fun, even if not of the “high quality” type like Bumblebee.

During the Superbowl trailers, I remember constantly praying for a TF2 movie to happen. Less than a minute after my final begs, I walked out of my room to check on my sister only to discover these last second clips on her TV:
    transformers-20090201-devastator-rh400-earth-mover2.jpg transformers-20090201-devastator-rh400-earth-mover.jpg
My prayers were answered at a conveniently perfect timing.

A few days after, I used to mistake the film for "Transformers: Revenge of the Fall". I also used to mistake Long Haul for Megatrons father because I had a deja vu from a movie where a parent would do anything to being their lost child back from the dead.

I loved the M&Ms because of its promotion and funny impersonation of the twins and megs. I loved Burger King, I remember going there all the time (before and after the film) for its kids meal in favor of it's little toys tied to TF2s campaign.

I remember going to Wal-Mart to pick up my first deluxe figure, between Sideways and Bumblebee, I chose Sideways because it's where i started having a thing for for decepticons with sportscar alt mode. The trailers also made me want him more because I thought with such a cool design, he'd make a big player in the film.

I remember going to Family Video to rent "Sinbad", only to stumble upon the PS3 tie in game which made me the happiest kid that night when my parents rented it for me.

I remember always going through TFBlogs for hot news about new toys and game trailers related to the upcoming film.

I remember playing Rihanna and T.I. "Live your life" throughout the year which made me feel much more alive as a kid than TF2 already did.

I remember Sams Club for when they still were sufficient for "exclusives". I ended up getting these a day before my birthday because I pissed my mom off for demanding these so much (kinda wanna punch my younger self for it).

2009 was was a perfect time to be alive because I genuinely felt like me if that makes sense. What makes me sad is that I'll probably never get this feeling again, probably because I was the most social back then :( :(

After seeing the 2007 movie, I thought this was going to be awesome.

To me, some of it still was. It’s mostly a guilty pleasure. But overall, it just was problematic and my thing is, this is the sequel that started the spate of completely missed opportunities to make bay’s Transformers live action franchise stand the test of time.

As it stands, to most people and fans, as mentioned, it’s a guilty pleasure, compared to, say, a sequel to avengers which were real enjoyable events to most audiences.

    Overall, so many opportunities missed.

I remember, some months before the release of RoTF, I had a dream that it was going to be a good movie with kick ass scenes.

It still had. The most notable was the unforgettable forest fight.

But I keep saying that the movie just falls flat after the forest fight scene.

But you could already see some problems in the movie earlier on, like how bumblebee is just in the garage in alt mode and treated like a pet.

Again, it’s a sequel of missed opportunities and the movie that would really define the rest of bay’s Transformers movies.

I watched the first film because I thought the ROTF trailer was pretty cool. Then I watched ROTF on opening day with a few friends from school who I lost contact with not long after (It was the summer before I started high school). I came out of the theater with the exact quote of “It was okay.” Then for some reason something clicked in mid-2010 and I became a huge Transformers fan.

So yes, as crazy as it sounds, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is the reason I am a Transformers fan.

TF: 07 is the reason I gotten into Transformers, For awhile now, I thought Starscream was this almighty brute decepticon lol. Either case, ROTF, Did have wonders for me as well. It brought more doors for me, Making me realize how great the film was. I cannot see it being hated at this point. To me the film had deep connections with Megatron. You seen more scenes of Megatron just calmly plotting and everything. Something what most TF films don't do anymore. Overall, This film by far is part of my childhood, And forever shall be.

For some reason when I saw the toys at the mall for the first time I kept bugging my parents not for toys but about how Mixmaster looks like Megatron based on the CGI headshot on his box. dId yOu KnOw MiXmAsTeR lOoKs LiKe MeGaTrOn became the most common phrase in my tiny apartment until I discovered Plants VS Zombies and left the fandom until DOTM.

Speaking of toys, I got my first ROTF toy before I even knew there was a second film. He was damn good, and although his legs don’t work like they used to before his memory will live forever in me. I will always love you Sideswipe :cry

My initial impression was that the movie is pretty long. However there are undoubtedly some amzing fight scenes and the soundtrack is really awesome. Till this day I still think it has the best fight choreography of all the movies. And also let's not forget that the tie-in video game to this movie still holds up to date and is easily the best live-action video game in my opinion. Especially the multiplayer feature.

    Ten years of ROTF.

I had fun with this film, I enjoyed how many Transformers there were and how much character they showed (maybe more variety/screentime than all the other films).

This film also coincided with my 10th birthday.

I remember seeing it after school on release day, and absolutely loving it. I was so excited, I must have watched the trailer a hundred times. Despite it's flaws it's still one of the defining films of my childhood.

But, I don’t care what anyone says... the twins were still hilarious.

And, of course, typical of the bay movies, they never showed up again in the following movies.

Which is the great fail of the bay movies. They introduced these characters, but instead of building them up, they were never showed again or they were killed off in the most stupid of ways.

I wished the twins would show up in DoTM, with a revamped better design that at least addressed fan/audience concerns.

Instead, they did listen, but they took them out altogether.

One thing the newer movies don’t have on this is nostalgia. 2009 was a great time to be alive.

My other memory is going on TNT watching the 2007 film the quickly going on FX movies and watching ROTF and DOTM and oh man it was awesome.

Dang, has it really been 10 years? Gosh, I remember when the first trailers for this film dropped, and I remember getting a bunch of figures (like Demolisher and the Fallen) for my B-Day (July 4) and having big battles in our spare room with all my movie toys and Bionicle sets.
