Oh no. The coloured prototype shows a gap between the shoulder gun & bonnet. This board is gonna go into meltdown.

 

Yeah looks promising. Hopefully we’ll get stock images that show him from different angles.

 

Wow, that looks even better now. I think the shadow over the eyes was throwing me off a bit before, making the top half of the face look squished. Now I can see how far upward it really extends. I sure wouldn't complain if you did Hound and Bluestreak+  

 

figting with this one.... i love my original's deco more with all its decals ect which this lacks obviously because they are going for a cartoon deco but i love the head/facesculpt and shoulder blasters on this more ... i wonder if the head will look too out of place swapped over

 

Could you put in the original MP-19’s head too? Purely out of curiosity.

 

I'll try to have a crack at both of these a bit later.

If they widened the bottom of the chin a bit, and lowered the mouth a smidgen, it would look great.

 

Okay, here you go - a quick comparison of how MP-19 looks when traced and coloured cartoon-style compared to MP-19+:



For me there's no comparison - the MP-19+ face sculpt blows MP-19's away - but then I never liked the MP-19 sculpt, so I'm really happy that my favourite Datsun is getting a noggin do-over.

I’ll admit, that does make 19+ look more accurate. And I do wish 19’s chin was longer to make it a little more accurate, but overall I’m still good with what I’ve got. The only thing that could change my mind is if I see 19+’s alt mode shots and become overpowered by my nostalgia brain.

 

Well, damn. Your fine work may have pushed me a bit more toward buying 19+.

Ah thank you--I actually expected MP-19 to fare a little better here than it does (I definitely did not expect them to even give him a new face at all). But yeah, MP-19+ is now the clear winner for me.

 

I mean if the blue isn’t different it might work. It’ll be hard to remove the head. And it might also have a ballpoint and new assembly instead of the original.

Well done man! The lips do look much better on this one. Also good with the eyes and surrounding face.

 

great comparison thanks for that. If they would put the new mouth shape (but a bit less like a baby eating citrus, the less prominent bottom lip is good but it's too much) on the old face, it would be perfect. The thing that's crappy about the old face is the sculpt of the mouth and the shiny silver. Proportions and positioning are better though. In my opinion.

 

The new head is almost 2.0 worthy. Seeing it traced I like it a lot more

 

the tracing doesn't really show the shape of the lips on either though. The old one has exaggerated swollen lips and the new one is way too thin.

 

The + looks nice as a drawing but oddly enough the original looks closer to the toon imo.

 

Gonna dig out my MP Smokescreen this weekend. I haven't laid my eyes on him for a really long time.
