That music from the original better be updated, because a whole 2 disc blu Ray of that shit is going to get old real quick.

And now the obligatory old man rant: "I remember 22 years ago when this game first came out on the Playstation and everyone was like 'where's Final Fantasy I through VI?'. And I would tell them... that was six damned games ago you damned noobs!" :lol

Seriously though, looking forward to this... especially since it's a going to reimagine the story and not just be a straight up remake. So far I'm pretty impressed. Makes me feel all sorts of nostalgic... It also makes me wish we could see remade versions of IV and VI too. Which would be an even bigger graphical jump.

I'm absolutely loving the return of the Stagger mechanic from FFXIII. That was the best thing about that game's battle system, encouraging you to play well, and not just autopilot and spam the same attacks over and over again.

I am so over pure menu-driven combat, because it's just pure time filler. Success either boils down to rote memorization, or winning the bullshit RNG lottery. There's no in-betweens. I need some form of actual skill-test, even as simple as the action triggers in FFVIII, to feel some actual for of accomplishment, rather than feel like I'm being led around by a script.

The game was nothing but hallways, and Stagger mechanic was created just so you would have a reason to switch between jobs, since otherwise you could win the game by hitting auto.

That's what I just said, isn't it? Stagger was the mechanic that made you actually perform. And many of the end game fights and optional content required you to perform your Paradigm Shifts in a very efficient manner to squeeze the most value out of Stagger as possible, or you'd get worn down by attrition. Letting the game run auto-pilot for you became very ineffective.

I mean, you can't really complain about the gameplay loop in FFXIII all that much, when the equivalent gameplay loop in the classic games is "hold X and spin your stick/d-pad in a circle". You could level cap in FFVI by doing the river sequence, taping down your confirm button and one of the directional arrows, and walking away from the console for a day or two. Doing so meant you wound up with characters who weren't as powerful as they could potentially be, but it was still strong enough to trivialize most of the game's content from there out.

That's not really playing a game. If they want action rpg, do a Kingdom Hearts, Dark Souls, or Tales of... I absolutely hate FFXIII, and almost everything about it. The story, the battle system, etc. Besides the music and the Transformer summons, the whole thing was trash.

I think you're just taking the opportunity to hate on FFXIII, rather than to listen to what I'm saying. I'm not defending FFXIII's shortcomings (even though I personally didn't have as much of a problem with it as you did), but highlighting the one innovative element that the game actually did right, that has some serious potential in this game as well.

    I am multitasking. :D

I hope that the Stagger mechanic actually works differently than the XIII and Zero type, where you did piss all damage unless they were staggered. Instead, I think that staggering the enemy should give you a few free hits, and maybe cancel a super move.

From what we see in the gameplay teaser, the combat doesn't seem to be as weighted towards Stagger as it is in XIII (then again, the footage often skips ahead right as Stagger is obtained). The bonus damage percentage is still there, as the gauge shows, but it looks like you'll need a lot more strategic setups and such to make it happen (a bit more like Lightning Returns, in that regard), rather that just spamming attacks to make it happen as often as possible. And given how the Limit Breaks and such seem to work in this game, it's probably not gated by damage type like in XIII, but more by overall performance.

But Jesus, Cloud and Barret really have to put in some work this time to take down the Guard Scorpion (or Scorpion Sentinel, as it's apparently being called this time around). That's just the first boss. If every other boss is an amazingly-designed set piece like that one is, we're in for a real treat.

Kinda missing the poorly-timed commentary that has you accidentally wailing on the thing at the most inopportune moment, though...

I think it's just a re-release of a Play Arts Kai set that was released a while back. Pretty sure it got released around when Remake was first announced.

Finally got to join in here..
I haven't played too much FF games inlcluding FF15.
    Only FF8.
My thinking at that time when I had the PSX, is that I'm already late playing FF7 and the chibi looking characters isn't that appealing to me compared to 8's realistically proportioned ones. Yeah, I haven't played FF9 as well.

But I know and aware of the epic hype surrounding FF7.
So I jumped watching Advent Children and I was blown away.
I'm one of the people then wishing, "They could remake FF7 using that 3d engine in the film" even in PS3. But PS3 is dead. But at least it's PS4 and not PS5 :lol

Then when it was announced that it will be episodic and the 1st episode will be 2 blu-rays?
I was shocked. But given the game's massive world and they say "new story", I'll give this a try.
Part of me was guessing like..

"Hey fans demanded the remake. Square gave in just to please the fans. And while they gave in they interjected the business decision of making the game multiple discs like the old game did. Yeah, they gave fans FF15 in just one single disc. But in order to maximized profit from the "fan's demands", they decided to make multi-disc".

I guess this is the price of "Fan's Demands" :lol

Now how many will play right ahead OR wait for the collected full version of game?

I was pretty damned sure they'd done the Hardy Daytona previously. I know they did AC's Fenrir, twice.

Maybe that was before the Kai reboot of the line, with the older ~8" Cloud. That was the more "anime-styled" rendition, though, not with the Remake-style design.
