Well this is certainly unexpected. I don't mind them doing a non-OG Beast Wars character but I am surprised they did it so early (relatively speaking) into Masterpiece Beast Wars.

Lio Convoy does look bloody amazing though, that robot mode is phenomenal, alas, seeing as I'm sticking to original show characters only (unless they do MP Injector for some reason) this is one I'm only going to be able to enjoy from afar.

Robot mode looks gorgeous save for the weird lion leg kibble on the forearms. I'd rather they'd end up on his back or be removable even, as they look like they'd make posing the figure's arms needlessly cumbersome. Lion mode's a bit iffy. The admittedly kinda goofy anime face doesn't bother me, but the segmented mane and booty could look better. I know having some robot kibble on beast modes is inevitable uness the toy's robot parts have a similar color scheme to its beast parts, but all the previous BW MP figures have managed to have their beast modes look clean from at least a handful angles.

Not a bad looking figure by any means, but so far I can't see that Takara engineering magic that makes figures like MP Inferno, Sunstreaker or Dinobot such a sight to behold. I'd rather them focus on more OG BW characters for the Masterpiece line, but perhaps the toy will look better down the line.

Oh, and Blackarachnia still looks lovely. Really dig how flat her back is despite the spider kibble.

Admittedly I've never watched the series, does seem to be integrated better in the video clip below:

Ooh... what a twist! I never did watch the anime, so I have no attachment to the character, but damn is the figure nice. Would have loved to have seen that Rhinox and Rattrap, but this is cool nonetheless. Gonna be watching the anime soon to get myself acquainted.

That's a bit toxic, doncha think?

I appreciate that they gave him less pudgey proportions than the lineart. I suppose the goofy lion face is also commendable, of only for the transformation.

I'm kinda surprised that there isn't more people upset that the focus has veered away from the season one cast already. :lol

Lioconvoy is my favorite character design of all time. This robot mode is absolutely gorgeous. Love the heroic stature and primary colors. Beast mode is honestly kind of a mess and the prime example of why strict anime accuracy is such a turn-off to me.

I’d pulled back on the last couple of MP BW releases given rising costs, but I’m all in for this guy. He’ll look great next to the toy-colors Primal.

    HOLY F*CKING F*CK!

I knew this was going to happen sooner or later. He's the perfect representation of Lio Convoy that I have wanted for years now! He's so good I'm even tempted to get the anime version of MP Primal just to get them together.

Never watched the show, but yeah I want this. I just hope he's cheaper than Dinobot/Megatron. Which ... is probably unlikely.

It's hand-drawn animation, and as such these parts are either depicted in full, sometimes smaller and other times missing completely. But considering that this is where his claws are stored it’s clear that the lion legs are meant to be there, it's not kibble they couldn't hide.

Also, free reaction image on me guys, I found this while randomly zapping through a few episodes.

Like with Optimus Primal, this is far more toon accurate, but I like the original toy better. Beast modes of the originals are far better representations of the animals they're supposed to be, robot modes are less 'rounded' and more dangerous looking (benefit of not being toon accurate).

Looks cool, but I like the original better, and much like Primal they didn't improve upon the area that could be improved upon (Primal's elbows, Lio Convoy's red lion belly). Sometimes less toon accurate is a good thing, just look at Tankor.

Idk why but the design of this looks less like a masterpiece transformer and more like a digivolving spirits figure

I’m...fairly saddened we aren’t seeing a new s1 character. It doesn’t shock me they made Lio, but it is still unexpected since they hadn’t really done anything to suggest he would be coming soon. Hopefully he and his repainted help fund some of the lesser BW characters!

I’ll be passing though...no real attachment to the character though that robot mode is beautiful. Beast mode is a bit meh.

Cool figure. Glad Beast Wars is still getting love.

But this is an easy pass for me. Hope the next MP BW character is from season 1 of the original show. Never saw BW2 and have no attachment to it.
