Fair point, I would then argue that their latest G1 stunticons have metallic finish and so do their G2 versions

I'm not thrilled with the metallic paint job and am still hoping that it is toned down in hand, but looking over the pics of this guy again he still seems like a great Seaspray regardless. Even if he does have super shiny blue parts I think he'll still be a great addition to my season 2 guys...

They really don't though. Only the red trim on the botmode of the gray one is really metallic paint finish.
Also, Seaspray is a fairly unique one where they can get away with it because the G2 version is apparently the same color scheme just more metallic on the blue. The Stunticons have entirely different color schemes on their G2 versions.

I never said or argued about the look/paint job/metallic of their Stunticons G1 or G2, which, I own all of and love!

I’m stating, not even arguing, that this metallic paint scheme on Seaspray is a smart business move by X-Transbots to maximize their profit on this mold. Release the G2 metallic paint scheme first to get bigger numbers then release the G1 non metallic or “toon” colored version for double dippers.

As a business they will move more units by releasing it in this order (metallic first then non metallic) as opposed to the G1 non metallic version then the G2 metallic version.

And mark my words. That non metallic G1 Toon color version will come out. I would wager it will be out this year.

That's very risky. If you've been here for just a minute, you know how fickle we all are when it comes to our 3P. If they start pulling stunts (ha), people will stop pre-ordering, which means retailers will stop placing early/larger orders, because nobody will know what's coming.

They've successfully pulled even more egregious stunts with our money when it comes to the prices for the stunticon cars, which ratcheted up at least twice. People complained but did nothing to speak with their wallets. A simple reversal of the order of release for G2 then G1 versions likely wouldn't even make a ripple.

they do listen to fan feedback for example people were really not happy with the first version of Windcharger as he wasn't G1 or G2 or metallic he was just the wrong colors. So they released a better version, but they did it based on feedback. Zero doubt that if enough fans voice their desire for non-metallic, they'll either reverse course at the last minute or do a second version. Not entirely for profit, I think it would be to keep their fan base happy. A happy customer is a loyal customer and I do get that from XTB over the years. They often try to correct their mistakes.

In the case of metallic paint being G2 for this figure, I think it's coincidence as they just recently started doing metallic finishes and I think it's to step up their game against the famous "premium" FansToys finish. Look at the kfc junkion reissued in metallic fir example. No rhyme or reason other than metallic is their new thing. They think it's what people want. Premium.

All of this is just my speculation on the whole shiny kerfuffle.

I do agree with most of what your saying but if you were watching the KFC Transistor thread, you would know that fans weren't happy with that metallic red, especially when it was also coming off, like some FT figures are now. Its also harder to fix, should you damage something later and want to repair it too.

I could find room to accept the metallic paint had it been done out the gate and like others that voiced the same, we want it to match with our other season figures. If FT/KFC/XTB want to pick up a fetish like metallic painting figures, then consider starting a whole season like the entire Japanese TF line of characters. To switch 3/4 or more of the way is just odd to me.

For Seaspray, this does come off more G2 and the fact they've been teasing the solid blue, is a switch and bait that makes me question whether to pre-order anything again. For some reason, I keep slipping into that old habit.

Well said, i suppose the bait and switch at the last minute is what is discouraging. If they had set expectations up front it would be preferable.

As long as this does not break in hand (like their Dragstrip), then paint is the least of the issues.

I don't give a damn about premium paint. I want premium plastic - meaning I want durable plastic that doesn't break the first time I try to transform it.

eh, think it's bull, since all the other places I've looked are saying July, granted everything could have been set back with them trying to push the Stunticons out first it still shouldn't be that long before we see him.

This is not everyone's result. Be careful please when making wide sweeping comments like this.

Most of my issues with both companies is stress marks but then again, I haven't transformed Overheat yet so I may need to come back and revise my statement later.

I'm guessing that's wrong since XTB is much closer to release on Seaspray and Springer from Baba's ebay store recently posting of a December release for him.

It would be almost everyone's result had they received the figure at the same time. People who have not broken theirs are divided into two camps: ones who watched TMan's review and ones who ended up sanding down their figures. Either way, they had prior warning.

Totally agree with @divinecomedy. I have said that some pieces are prone to be broken on XTB's stucticons page before Overheat hit US but a board member also challenged me not to spread the rumor. I knew that because a Chinese reviewer mentioned that on Weibo and I just wanted to share and warn people. Sadly it turns out to be true and we are in debt to Youtubers doing videos to help us avoid breaking it. All in all, it is better to be safe than sorry.

I can't speak for Divine, but for my part I requested discretion regarding rumor control because this hobby is small and negativity may impact someone's sales. One could argue that those flying blind and trying to transform their copy w/out watching TMan's review may encounter issues (specifically with the butt flap), but to imply that simply handling Dragstrip results in breakage is not everyone's result and I felt needed clarification. Negative word travels fast, so rumor control is vital.
