This has been my best year as a transformers collector since I was a kid.

There has been the joy of Siege line which has been possibly my favourite since G1. Add to that we now have V3 Prime, Bee and Hound (a figure I've wanted to join the masterpiece ranks for some time). 2019 has been apretty special year for a TF fan.

 

It's always time to get out of the hobby.

I do agree with your statement about what JEEP wanted during the creation of Binaltech/Alternators. There’s no telling if JEEP’s philosophies concerning transforming toys have changed over the course of fifteen years. Did they look at Lamborghini and Sunstreaker and said, “we want that. TT, make Hound as close to real world as possible.” Is Porsche the secret leader in demanding these car designs and waiting for TT to pump out enough real world representations?

I’m more interested in hearing TT themselves explaining the design process in Hound and the design choice for Hound’s “floating” head. We all know that they could have designed the head to flip over very easily. They’ve done it many times over. So the better question is, why did they choose not to?

 

Any chance of a designer interview soon? To explain some choices?

It seems that way. From what I've read in the MP speculation thread, TT did work on MP Jazz at one point but Porsche weren't satisfied with it. If that's what you're referring to. It could also just chalk up to simply an engineering choice. Since we have no idea how he transforms from the chest up.

I feel like it may be TT's philosophy changing as well, since even Prime who has an unlisenced alt mode has opening doors. They obviously care a lot about having real world gimmicks even at the cost of the bot mode. MP-45 pretty much shows that with his broken up thighs and big heel spur.

I think TT is confident in their own engineering that they're more commonly incorporating these gimmicks to appeal to people who enjoy collecting MPs as car models. But yeah, only way to know for sure is for an interview. Hopefully soon.  

 

One thing that's changed since the Alternators days: Jeep is now owned by Fiat. Not knowing the intricacies of that arrangement, I don't know what kind of directives Fiat can impose upon Jeep management. Fans have competing theories about how much control Volkswagen has over Porsche, for example. I tend to fall on the side of believing this is just Takara challenging themselves to design a car mode with as few unnecessary seam lines as possible.

I can agree with that. I also see Porsche calling their own shots and still may want the MP line to appear more luxurious in order to represent their product. Regardless, I like how Hound’s center console has been filled out. With previous options, it’s been left open. I like this change in direction.

 

... and poor binaltech/alternator hound ended with an horrible looking panel behind his head, IIRC ...

 

Still one of my favorite alternators. It is curious how many design parallels are present between him and MP-47.

 

Wish Hasbro Pulse would price it lower than than 3rd party sellers. But for now Amazon JP continues to be my choice.

 

I sold mine last year. BT-04's head floats over completely empty space. An amazing figure for his time. In an old interview they stated how they were at the limits for that era.

 

It was a good idea but those robot modes.....yeesh. Smokescreen was pretty good, but some of the bot modes were such a departure from their G1 counterpart. Skid's was one of the better bot modes. Oh and the car models, I was done with Bay when Jazz became a freaking Pontiac. Still never got over turning Sideswipe into a convertible .
