What would you think of having scale ratios on packaging?

A few months ago while browsing a toy shop, I passed an aisle of die cast model farm machinery and trucks.

What caught my eye was they showed the model scale on the packaging, say 1:40. Most of said line appeared to be of the same scale which definitely lends itself to the realism of the toys.

Now, scale in Transformers can be a heated topic. I'm definitely in the minority as I like vehicle scale since I like my sci fi or fantasy to be as grounded in reality as possible.

One of the things I liked about the Bay movies was that the vehicle scale translated to the robot modes. Same with Animated.

Seeing Seekers and Constructicons tower over the Autobot cars definitely adds to the Decepticon threat. The G1 Decepticons would suddenly appear less overwhelmed by their fewer numbers.

Now redoing every character to one scale is unrealistic but how would people feel about having the vehicle scale on the packaging of future lines?

At least that would let those of us who prioritise vehicle scale know what scales with what.

I've often felt it a shame that tfwiki doesn't feature the scales of each toy but it would be a huge undertaking for an individual fan.

So what do you guys think?

Since the vehicles don't scale with each other, I couldn't care less about what the actual scale is.

Since the 2 of the current major Tf lines emphasize robot scale (Generations, MP), maybe having the robot scale on the package would work better? Since the alt modes are completely different scales based on the character

I'd definitely appreciate having the knowledge.

I'm in the same boat when it comes to preferring the vehicle size dictating robot size.

I wouldn't mind having the info, but I think robot mode scale is better. I will say, trailer or no, CW Motormaster is pretty darn good at getting scale right. He's nearly a perfect size in vehicle mode (when compared to his fellow Stunticons) and he's slightly taller than current Voyagers, which is befitting a character his size. He's a massive dude
    EDIT: Argh. Posting...

What I was trying to say... (And the reason I brought up MM) is that the focus, now, it's robot size and not alt-mode. Motormaster is the last great example of how to do both correctly.

    Why not!

    Optimus Prime - 1:18.34
    Bumblebee - 1:15.5
    Ironhide - 1:12.97
    Soundwave - 1:1
    Trypticon - 1:60.1

    :D

Though at least if they had the actual scales, you could group like with like.

Most of my collection consists of Combiners. If I group the bots by scale, most of the teams wouldn't be displayed together.

Scale in Transformers is an exercise in futility, IMHO.

It would be pointless information in a line where a space shuttle and a jeep are supposed to be the same size.

It wouldn't be pointless to the few of us who try and scale by vehicle mode.

I've seen robot scale mentioned and it's based on the shoddily animated G1 cartoon. There's a lot of dismissiveness on this thread. On this site in general actually.

Its because in general most of the population here on TFW don't care much for alt mode scale. I don't. I'm more concerned with robot mode as that is where my guys stay in almost all the time.

That being said I don't see the harm in it. I do see it as an exercise in futility as you're just gonna see a dozen or so different scales on the pegs.

Frankly, I would ban any and all mention of scale in relation to TFs in any capacity forever if I could.

    Obligatory: The Transformers Scale Project

It would be fun to get some small nod to scale and how big the bots are "supposed" to be. Though right now between the lack of realistic alt modes (outside Movie stuff) and characters generally getting just the one mainline toy that's already designed with robot scale in mind, it seems like it'd be kinda pointless. Like, back during RotF era when guys like Ironhide and Starscream would get a toy in every other size class and you'd also get crazy things like forklifts and cargo planes and stealth boats, an official way to sort it all out would've been a lot of help. Now? When there's really only one option anyways, and it's mostly just fantasy "Cybertronian" modes? Eh...

I said that I don't really care about scale, but that isn't entirely true. I wasn't a fan of UW Groove and the way he looked with the rest of the team, so I went with CW Groove and Rook instead. They look a lot more consistent with the rest of the team. As for Bruticus, I just pretend that Blast Off is a futuristic drone...

Me too, that's why I love Bayformers! Most of my collection revolves around vehicle scale.

If the cost of packaging increases I'd prefer they, TT/Hb just focus on paint apps.

I’m open to the possibility, but as scale is a messy rabbit hole I prefer measurement tables for length, height and weight and a small comparison chart to compare with fellow wave mates.

It may be minuscule, but it’ll help me a lot for getting a sense of scale with figures I haven’t owned when I can’t get a size comparison picture.

That, and to shut down the completely wrong measurements from third party sellers that boggle and frustrate me. Just look at these pictures I found from the same website:

    Excuse me?
