No, he had moved on to Black Jesus by that time.

In fact, season four was the only season that also didn't involve Sony.

As for why it needs a reboot. Because time has passed and expecting a new audience to jump into the series with a four season past that's been hiatus this long is probably pointless. Not to mention the cast and characters may or may not return.

A reboot is a much more logical choice than trying to cram slot of potential new into the previously established lore.

Now, as for your own take, no one is forcing you to be involved much less enjoy the effort. Your universe can consist of the three seasons the gracefully faded into history some time ago. So, there's that.
