I wish for this, too. Unfortunately the history isn't there with Pokemon, otherwise the Primals would've been added to XY, Zeraora to SM, ect....PLEASE, GAMEFREAK!! JUST DO PATCHES FOR THE POKEMON!!!!!

I really don't want to be a Debby downer, but I also don't want my hopes to be crushed harder....

Not getting a Switch or the game until I hear about whether there will be a patch or not. If a Scottish person does a Let's Play, I'll watch that but I am not going to encourage Game Freak and Nintendo by spending money on them. Such a shame too because Battle for Bikini Bottom and Ultimate Alliance 3 are coming out but after Jurassic World Evolution I have learned to not buy consoles for only two games.

Well some people might not be mad, but I am. I'm sorry, but there is no excuse to not have every Pokémon in the game. Gotta Catch Em All has been a tag line since the start, and here they are VERY MUCH INTENTIONALLY choosing to make it not so. If its a development problem, delay the game and make sure it happens. If they think doing this is the "right" move then I'm sorry, I do not want to support such a move and I honestly do not want to give Sword and Shield support. I'll change my mind if they announce they will EVENTUALLY add all the Pokémon to the game but for now, I'm completely out.'

EDIT: I mean if its a matter of wanting to "Balance" things, make special rules for online or competitions that just allow people use to Galar Pokedex Pokémon. But to just go "Nope you can't have X Pokémon" is just a spit in fans faces to me.

Serebii posted part of an interview with Junichi Masuda talking about their reasons for limiting the number of Pokemon in Sw/Sh...

Having Sword and Shield be Gamefreak's first home-console 3D games seems to be both a blessing and a curse.

Short version its too much work and cost to include them all. Honestly if they had to do this they should have gone to the fans and allowed them to vote on which pokemon to include, then put in the ones that get the most votes and the low vote getters well they are sadly abandoned.

Seriously though i would like to see something, anything to support their choice not to support all preexisting pokemon going forward as with out something to back up the statement i find it rather hard to swallow that its necessary other than for budgetary reasons.

Also if they try to put out the ability to transfer what ever pokemon did not make the current cut as paid DLC folks are gonna be pissed.

So no Mega Evolutions, no Z-Moves, and no way to transfer any non-Galar region Pokemon (be they new or old) into Sword and Shield to have a complete Pokedex.

    Right, just saved myself $60.

I saved myself (my possibly my parents) $300+ because I was planning on putting that and a Switch on my birthday/Christmas list.

So that’s out the window now.

Actually, the primary reason Masuda cites seems to come down more to to balancing the battle system, and making sure the Pokemon in the game are given the chance to shine. He mentions they'd have to create higher quality animations for all the Pokemon, but he doesn't say anything about it taking too much work or money to include them all...

Really it sounds like they could have included them all. But he says they all knew the day would eventually come they wouldn't be able to support them all and they decided Sw/Sh was a good time to re-evaluate what Pokemon to include in the games.

    Sigh...

I still plan on getting Sw/Sh, but I have to say I've very disappointed by some of the announcements over the past couple days.

Between me and my friend who were pooling resources, $480 (Switch+Shield+other games.)
Yeah, seriously. The Z-moves were such a focus of SM/USUM and I was quite charmed by my dorky little protagonists when they would use them. Plus, my Swampert and Lucario (at least one of whom won't be in the game) just got 70% less cool.

Fine by me, I guess. All that cash saved. Also, Yamper might be the only Pokémon I've seen that is less cute than the animal it's based on.

So we'd only see top tiered pokemon due to comeptitive players and gen 1 pokemon. Whilst pokemon deemed ugly or stupid by so many would get the wrongful boot. I rather have Gamefreak be in charge of that and do what they think is right than people trying to fill out a dex for a game to be played by hundreds to conform to their own personal liking.

As for no megas and z-moves.

They want to do soemthing new with this gen.

To have players dynamaxing a wailord online to battle a mega rayquaza, or a player with a z-move to go up against a player with neither cause they don't feel like spending time to earn bp to purchase crystals or stones. Or some guy with his Primal Groudon battles an Ultra Beast. Even having people with the same pokemon, but because one is a Totem they have the advantage. Its a mess.

Sure, Gamefreak has not helped themselves by creating these various gimmicks. But you had to see this was bound to happen. It would be chaos for online and for playing the main game, if players some how foudn their way to some post game/ late area where they can buy stones and crystals, then they themselves would break the game. A post game could not be big enough for players to get worth out of newly acquired mega stones and z-crystals.

Not even all the mega stones were used in Sun and Moon and Let's Go, they only put the ones in them that made sense, for the game they were making. Also I mean, besides the battle tree and online, was there any point or use for the mega stones in sun and moon, no.

They have to streamline and pick and choose their battles now, perhaps in the next games they will be able to work out the balance of these power ups, but for now, its fine and understandable.

Also lore wise mega stones were originally found in Kalos, only one mega stone in Hoenn (Rayquaza's), all the other stones in games are exports or traded goods.

Z-Cyrstals are a cultural thing to Alola, so I don't see how well it would go if tourists started to harvest them and sell them to other regions, taking away the sacredness of the Alolan trials and traditions.

Maybe we’re looking at another USUM where we get the glorified beta now and the real thing later.

Not just that, Z-Moves would technically not even work in other regions, as the power that enables them is the auras caused by Necrozma and the Ultra Wormholes. :)

I was never really impressed by Z Moves, but the loss of Mega Evolution hurts, especially for those Pokemon that were elevated from obscurity by it (Charizard, anybody?).

Edit: Granted, I always felt that Mega Evolution was just their way of revising certain designs without actual evolution, but I'm of the extremely minor opinion that Pokemon could have used a reboot a generation or two ago.
