Sorry, I guess I'm missing something, but what is it that we're impressed with here? As far as I see, all they really did was just copy & paste exactly what their baseline descriptions always have been... the way we'd all expect these characters to be if/when they show up. No?

 

I guess I'm just taking it as something more down to Earth and not over the top... like I said. For example; no freak of nature version of Penguin that's so ridiculously popular for some reason... no crazy armored version of Firefly... no mad scientist Riddler... and no crazy nine lives bullshit with Catwoman. Maybe, I'm just impressed that for a damned change they didn't decide to try and reinvent these characters this time around.

 

Ah, fair enough. I evidently don't pay enough attention to non-movie Batman related adaptations to notice that that typically happens otherwise.

Not a bad list actually especially with both Mad Hatter and Firefly making their silver screen debut.  

 

I could do without most of them, honestly, but I will say I'm legitimately intrigued to see Mad Hatter finally make it to the big screen. I'd kill to see him with a properly done version of Scarecrow as headline baddies for a movie.

Two-Face is a curious plop-in addition considering he has such a distinct backstory and journey of becoming Two-Face.

 

To make it work, Two-Face could be the big bad.

If they follow a more detective/noir route, then everybody else could be the lead-in to uncovering the misdeeds of the crooked DA Harvey "Two-Face" Dent.

Problem is, by announcing all these characters, you're going to invite a lot of speculation like that based on the comics characters, to the point where the "mystery" is wholly dissected before we even see it on screen. In other words, an utterly predictable film. Gonna take some good, creative writing and maybe a bit of misdirection to fool this group of fans.

 

I did hear that he may be Harvey dent and not yet two face in the movie. And I will not be surprised if there are more villians But as more cameos.

 

Yeah, I'm curious as to the approach of this. As in, the internet peanut galleries ALWAYS instantly decry any & every movie that has more than 1-2 villains as being "too much", "overstuffed", yada yada yada, but Reeves here is clearly doubling down on the high villain count stigma AND even announcing them in advance. I almost wonder if there's some misdirection happening. Like, all those baddies WILL appear, but in what actual capacity? Curious.

Personally speaking, if they're set on including Dent/Two-Face yet again in these, I'd almost prefer we skate over the tired backstory and just catch-up to his villainy self. Much like Wayne/Batman or Parker/Spidey over at Marvel. I just can't sit through their journey shit again.

 

Mad Hatter is a character I'd never thought I'd see in a live-action movie. Legit surprise there.

 

I count three to four villains there in white/black or on the grayscale and two green gentlemen. Four suits of some kind. I’m assuming Batman is going to be all black and gray because the cowards at WB will never give us Jim Aparo sweatshirt Batman in live action (or even just the yellow oval and a blue fill light on the black cape to give it it’a signature highlights).

I think Matt Reeves is a great visual storyteller but Gotham is a little more vibrant and saturated than the somber world of Planet of the Apes or the naturalistic one in Cloverfield. So I hope we get the colorful versions of those rogues’ costumes;

- Give us purple Catwoman, or even the yellow belt and nails from the sixties show would help a lot

- Throw the orange and blue Two-Face suit at us. Purple or green skin even. Just not the TDK/Arkham Games charred look in the Animated Series suit (which is probably what we’ll be getting).

- Give Penguin his purple gloves/hat/umbrella. Batman Vs TMNT gave him a purple scarf too which I thought added a nice little gangster flare to him. Speaking of which, let him have his little cigarette holder. I miss bad guys smoking in movies and corrupt politicians with cigars and whatnot. Maybe don’t extend it to Gordon because you don’t want to promote it and I get that, but the villains?

- Firefly looked his very best in The Batman. That orange and black layout with the bug eyes is their best bet.

Riddler and Mad Hatter are pretty much set but I hope they don’t give Riddler question mark tattoos or something to make him look cool like they do sometimes. Let him be a little nerd with sideburns and a bowler hat

If it's The Long Halloween then this movie got my full attention.

 

I don't get the obsession with Patterson's actual age. Tobey and Garfield were both like 26 when they played teenage Spiderman.

 

Yeah, it seems to be coming from people that think this is a prequel trilogy to all the shite Snyder/Affleck stuff, and that Pattinson will be playing a younger version of Affleck. I might be wrong, but I could have sworn I read that that idea got thrown out the window when Affleck bailed on the entire franchise and that this will be its own stand alone trilogy like Nolan's movies were.

 

I have mixed feelings on Two-Face. I don't think any live-action appearance has done him justice: Batman Forever was him going loco with the Riddler, and The Dark Knight showcased him as a victim of the Joker and then killed him off. The DCAU did better with Dent by giving him more screentime to develop as a tragic character who constantly struggles with his own split psyche. Anyway I hope he will be portrayed in a fairly original manner.

The Mad Hatter raises my interest. He's a mind-control expert with an obsession with Alice in Wonderland, notably Alice. That's a whole other level of insanity to pervert a children's tale into a fetish for stalking and enslaving young girls. I don't think the film will employ mind-control Inception-styled tech, but I would count on advanced drugs and hypnosis as being realistic enough.

 

Nice thing about the animated two-face is he was huge friends with bruce but hated batman. It added things when he wanted to kill batman but would give his live to save bruce and they are they same guy.
