The main thing about the Banjo-Kazooie announcement that I feel gets overlooked is that Microsoft owns the character. This indicates to me that while this ultimately stems from the currently amicable relationship between Rare and Nintendo, no characters are off the table anymore. If Nintendo is willing to have a Microsoft credit in their game, the next character announcement could be anything from the square ball in Pong up to Kratos and Nathan Drake.

 

I missed E3 and I just checked the last couple of pages a minute ago and my reaction to Banjo-Kazooie joining Smash is this:

Something to keep in mind here is that things aren't just amicable between Nintendo and Rare, they're amicable between Nintendo and Microsoft's entire Xbox division as well. Phil Spencer considers Microsoft a 3rd party Nintendo publisher/developer in addition to being a platform owner. So, something a little more boldly Microsoft (say, Master Cheif, maybe?) might be possible. But there aren't many warm feelings between Nintendo and Sony, so Nathan Drake, Kratos, Sackboy, Ratchet & Clank are all just as unlikely as they were before.

I think a better takeaway is that this might open the door for a future re-release of Diddy Kong Racing with the original roster.

 

Rare Replay: Nintendo Switch Edition. Has a nice ring to it.  

 

They should do it.

 

I doubt we'll see Rare Replay as a complete package on Switch, I don't think we would have even seen that on XB1 if they didn't get a third of the games on there for free thanks to back compatibility.

I think it's only a matter of time before some titles start showing up individually though.

 

The game files for SSBU hinted at spirits based on Jet Force Gemini and Blast Corps. So... Banjo's inclusion was hinted at a long time ago.

 

I honestly took it as scrapped data stuff, like Mewtwo and Toon Zelda in Brawl.

 

In more modern video games, if something is unused, it's possible DLC. Take GTA V, in the original release some things were unused, but they were in future updates.

 

I think I got so used to scrapped stuff in Pokemon games (seriously, why!?) That my natural brain setting just claims that thought.

Rosalina and Luma: Mother of the Lumas/Watchers of the cosmos (Why does the plural version of Luma feel wrong to say?)

I just found out about The Hero and Banjo and Kazooie. Are they one of the 5 mystery downloadable characters along with Joker?
