There two ways to have Rocky head version. - retail release of MMPR Red. - retail release of MMPR The Movie figures. I'll be happy if Hasbro pull off a dual unmasked head of Jason and Rocky for a single Red Ranger figure.
Well, there's a couple ways we could see Rocky, Adam, Aiesha, Jason, Zack, Trini, Kimberly and Kat... first off I'd love it if Hasbro did me a favor and included both unmasked heads with MMPR Red, Black, Yellow, and Pink so I could choose which of the two I prefer. BUT... that's not Hasbro's MO at all. If they think they can get you to double dip they sure as heck will (collect Marvel Legends long enough you'll know what I mean). I wouldn't be surprised if they made some of these, say, Gamestop or some other store exclusive so you could get your version of that character in their MMPR suit, but Hasbro wouldn't have to find a way to put it in the main line. Example: If the upcoming MM Pink Ranger in wave two ends up coming with an unmasked Kimberly head than a basically identical figure, but coming with an unmasked Kat head could be a store or online exclusive somewhere. It would suck for those that want that particular character, but it's not as bad as some of the other options I potentially see Hasbro giving us. Like, I could totally see Hasbro doing the movie versions and you having to get your Rocky, Adam, and Aiesha unmasked heads from those... or, even worse, from Zeo or Turbo versions of the qualifying characters (welcome to the Hasbro world of double dipping if you want those accessories bad enough). The SDCC set shows they aren't adverse to doing multiple different unmasked heads for the same actor though so I can see them potentially going the first route I mentioned and than giving us different unmasked heads later for their other incarnations.
You are probably right. Jason is probably a SDCC Exclusive only and Rocky will be in the normal waves for Red Ranger.
Which if true is kinda BS for those that maybe want to have the original Red Ranger head. Jason was far more memorable than Rocky ever was during his time as the Mighty Morphin Red Ranger. Heck, when Jason, Trini, and Zach left, the only replacement Ranger that really was developed as a character afterwards was Adam. Kat barely had time to be the new MM Pink Ranger when Kimberly left, but she was at least given development before replacing her, and got to be a Ranger in Zeo and her brief time in Turbo. I don't use the unmasked heads myself, but the idea that they might be used to get us to 'double dip' on a figure for something as Hasbro has people do in the Marvel Legends line...it's not something I'm looking forward to.
Honestly, the only reason Jason seems more memorable compared to Rocky is because Jason was first. Had Rocky been first, he would have been considered being more memorable. Neither character did anything worth while. Of course, it also doesn't help that by the time Rocky came in, Tommy was the leader whereas Jason got to have some character moments thanks to Zyuranger's footage requiring him to acquire the shield and Dragonzord. I definitely think they would put the Rocky and Adam heads with the Zeo figures as opposed to the MMPR ones. However, Trini might be the odd ball since the actress is dead, Hasbro may not be allowed to use her likeness.
Unless a product is based on the movie, Jason, Zack and Trini always seem to be the characters who are the rangers. LOL they are PR G1. I doubt Hasbro wouldn't want to let the general public be able to buy the more popular character. There is soo much about the SDCC set they can leave out for the individual release. Shield, Dragon Dagger (of course would come with Green) & combined weapon. Of course the Shield would come with Green. They could do it in a way that it could be removed and the customer could put it on another ranger so people could make their own Shielded Red if they wanted. Also, going by past SDCC exclusives for other lines, many figures get a general release with some of the accessories the SDCC set has just not the big accessory pack the SDCC basically is.
Hasbro's going to milk this thing for all it's worth, considering they spent over half a billion to obtain it and whatever else comes with Saban's name attached. If you guys are worried that we'll only see one or two uses of a mold and no special edition this and that, you've clearly never read the Hasbro playbook...
Jason is more memorable as Red Ranger because he was the leader for 2 entire seasons (or one) while Rocky never was. Dont get offended but if you think Rocky is more memorable, you didnt watch season 1 and 2 of MMPR.
At this point there are only 2 aspects of the Legacy Rangers that I feel are superior to Lightning collection: Wrist hinges/swivels that are functionally more versatile More solid feeling plastic(not as soft) That's about it. In any case I'm done with Legacy collection and am all for Lightning Collection.
I rewatched the Power Rangers shows from MMPR to In Space not too long ago, and thinking back on the MMPR seasons... I can't recall ANYTHING Rocky did that was memorable. Him or Aisha. Other than get replaced by Justin, a kid, in Turbo. LOL Jason meanwhile I still recall his rivalries with Goldar and Tommy (even when Tommy became good they still had a bit of friendly rivalry), also his struggles as leader a number of times throughout his time in the show. And then in Zeo his talk with Tommy about knowing how he felt when he lost his powers (Green Ranger powers) after Jason had to give back the Gold Ranger powers.
Jason was only leader for 1 season and 14 episodes of Season 2. I didn't say Rocky was more memorable, I said Jason is only move loved due to him being the first leader. They both had about the same amount of character development. However, you also just proved my point, Rocky was never the leader because Tommy was put in charge of the rangers by the time Rocky came in, which is the only reason Jason is more memorable. I bought Legacy Green Ranger when he first came out and his wrist hinge snapped right out the package. I don't find that to be more versatile.

Do the Lightning Collection figures all share the same DCPI assortment number at Target like other Hasbro lines?
If anyone is in Oregon, I saw a Lord Zedd at the Walmart in Dallas. He's been there for over a week now, I keep thinking about picking him up, but I already got him and I don't need two.
