Hasbro's been scratching the Devvy itch so far with the SS releases, so I'm passing on this. But so far, looks pretty rad.

I have to lol at them using MASK on Mixmaster rather than MACK.

We can rip off Hasbro IP all we want, but we're not taking a chance on ripping off a truck company!  

One that does interest me though - I wonder if the left hand will be made from a bulldozer-like thing seen in the movie rather than the excavator of the official Scrapmetal. Even if I don't get this whole combiner, I might look into that bot just to get another dude.

 

This is hugely ambitious and I applaud them for it but honestly I have no faith that such a project would ever be completed. 3P has burned me too many times.

Depending on how this and Hasbro devy turn out I may get one full set and just get a couple favorites from another set so that I can have a couple as individuals and have the combined devastator too. Rampage for instance has always been a favorite of mine so I’m curious to see how he turns out in this set.

Yeah, this is why I'm wondering if it's not a KO. The style is a bit too 'mainline' as well. You'd think even a new 3P company would push it further.

 

They could be trying to keep costs cheap, which results in the figure looking more like something Hasbro made, which if it is the case, is something I appreciate.

 

True, true. Whatever the case may be, it's some great engineering going on here.  

 

Why would they try and compete with the SS version with their first product?

 

I initially thought these were Studio Series reveals, then saw it was third party.  I\'m disappointed.  These do look well designed, though.

Starting with Mixmaster and Scavenger is a good away to at least pretend to be ahead of the game because we haven't seen anything from Hasbo/Takara to measure it against.

The big problem though, how can you get anyone to buy in at the price of something like that without knowing if/when the entire project would be done? I'm going to guess the cost of these guys alone will set you back the cost of the entire SS figure, and we're not 100% sure if these are "better."

One thing I did see that has me intrigued....is that a CW peg?

Scavenger's bot mode gives me a big hollow area when closed up in vehicle mode. So these guys just copied the EZ version in that regard. Also, by using the wheels to build the vortex grinder, they're borrowing a popular theory for how Studio Series will tackle the same thing.

Honestly...seeing these guys gives me faith that Takara and Hasbro's versions will be just fine. And far more affordable. Because this just looks like someone got hold of the prototypes and raced some KOs to market.

Nah, Combiner Wars plugs are a bit longer at the tip. Also you'd be attaching a torso to a torso if it were.

 

I find the fact that they’re only showing off parts Hasbro has not shown off to be...suspicious...

 

What if it sucks better than the Studio Series one though?
