Ick, those gate pillars look like shit. Needs to be thickened up a LOT. I like the look of the Rex build, but you're right, there's something about it that doesn't scream JP's Rex. And no Explorer, boo. I do like the looks of the Rex still, so I may still wind up buying it, but yeah, sorta disappointed in the whole package.
Man, I'm no JP/JW fanboy, but I can already feel the collective disappointment of those who've been longing for the visitor centre. And rumor has it LEGO is even angrier at leakers at this after the ST fiasco - I can already assume from this that this set was gonna be another of their last-minute reveals... ...and people are still gonna buy this up just for the minifigs.
Just finding a shelf that you can use to display it, relative to the height of your ceiling. It is tall.
The back of the box: Yikes - such a weird name for the set, minifig selection, and choice to put little rooms behind the gates. Just a mishmash of stuff. I know I’m partially disappointed because of whatnot I imagined we’d be getting, but I’m pretty sure I’m disappointed in this regardless. I showed it to my wife who isn’t a massive Lego or JP fan (though isn’t a newb) and she reacted similarly not having known what was rumored. Pretty gutted we didn’t get a Jeep OR Explorer
I can already imagine the designer video. "We had many concepts for this set, and we even thought of the visitor centre with Jeep and Ford, but in the end we decided the gate with a T-rex was much more iconic!"
It is tempting to take it as a hint that a Genaro (sp?) is coming as a poly or in another set, but the Disney castle still has references missing figs
Sure, the T-Rex looks pretty good, but for a big, D2C JP set, this is a letdown. I, like many others, was hoping for a Visitor's Center. Shame. What isn't a shame is the Apollo Lander. I have one more bag to go, but I'm already convinced this is going to be my favorite Lego set. The Ford Mustang was nice, but the Lander is just a beautiful model with a great, unconventional build. I'll probably finish it up later today.
yay for musical Metalbeard! I agree the JP Set is disappointing in an expectation/reality sense, but also, it doesn't look fantastic value for money, and the T-Rex never came near the gates in the film, they should have done the car(s) and the toilet and the T-Rex paddock, and left the gates for a separate set.
I’m going to stop griping about if after this post, but it seems like they really missed what fans wanted. The rex and the gates have no relationship to one another. Rex and fence? Sure. Gate and Explorer? Sure. Then, if you’re going to brickbuild a dinosaur, why not a sauropod and recreate the opening island scene? We don’t have molds for those. Yes, there was a set on ideas with a brick built rex, but importantly, it included the explorer. People weren’t voting for that set because of the content as much as the IP and they left out the part people (I don’t think I’m reaching) would have most wanted. Rex and Explorer? Not as much griping. Gate and Explorer, not any griping. Rex and Gate? WTF. It is all the more frustrating because it would seem to at least delay or prevent the release of a set with the things people *were* hoping for. I suppose the Jeep or Explorer could come out as a set or part of one, but I felt a D2C was more likely to do them justice. Maybe a Creator Expert like the DB5? *sigh*
LEGO, why would I want a buildable T-Rex as part of a Jurassic World/Jurassic Park set when I'm already inundated with Minifigure scaled T-Rexes in five sets released throughout the run of the Theme? Why the hell did they not give us a Brachiosaurus? Why did they make all of these things inside of the gate instead of making a playset style set similar to Betrayal at Cloud City or any of the other Star Wars sets in this price range? I will save and get this once available, but I am sorely disappointed in a complete lack of compatibility with the rest of the Theme. You can't put this inside a Park setting because it just doesn't work, although the gates might be slightly to scale or as close as we're going to get. I am seriously thinking that designers should be given a specific thing to build and then build it, not just cook up an idea that just fails on so many levels. I mean, since when are the gates, of all things, associated with interior scenes like this set would have you believe? Pitiful. And it'll probably cost 500$ CND because of the license. At least if I was going to spend that much an actual Visitor's Center complete with lab, fence area, skeleton build and the like would be worth such a ridiculous price.
