I just got this big fella, and he is pretty great. The feet, though, are terrible. They need solid heels, given how back-heavy he can get with all his hardware, and those blue parts that stick out to the rear are not doing it.

I modded them by first gluing the joint inside the blue part. Then I glued a thin strip of plastic onto the top surface of the gray bar that holds the blue heel on, so that the heel stops up against the ankle joint. At the right thickness, it will stop the blue heel at the point where it forms a flat surface with the front, black part of the foot. Too thick, and the heel will hang down too far and make the foot unstable. So that’s the trick.

Gluing that joint requires that you cut a bit of material off the post inside the bottom of the black foot part; originally, the blue heel would bend slightly at the now-glued joint to fit over the black post, but now that that joint is solid, the black post and the blue port don’t quite line up. A little trimming of the black post fixes that.

The only thing I’m still struggling with is his weak ankles. I’ve tried super glue, but there’s not enough space for the glue to get between the rotating parts. But as I write, he’s standing straight up with all his “scientific instruments” on his back. Most poses won’t be affected by the weak ankles.

The other thing I did was to cut a notch in the back panel of his thigh, so his thigh rotation works when he’s standing straight.

Now then, microscope mode. You can arrange him into a good microscope shape (I was a stickler and wanted to use the chest piece as the sample stage, like G1), except that his scope portion doesn’t have a central attachment point. So I drilled 2 small holes in the flap that covers his head in alt mode, close to the hinge side. I shaved down the ends of the 2-pronged bracket on the scope, to make them more rounded. Then I just plugged the scope bracket into the new holes. It lines up perfectly and looks great IMHO.

This guy is pretty fun, and right now at $35 at BBTS, a steal.
