I'd be surprised if they're gone for good. Stuff like this always gets really crappy sequels if history repeats itself.

Honestly, I don't mind em. Crappy sequels are A-okay for me as long as they're fun (the reason I still kinda love Age of Extinction despite it's OBVIOUS faults).

 

Making them fun is what counts. but it wouldn't hurt to make them smarter too. I just think the Emissary scenes would have done a better way of making the Predator in an Anti-Hero role as it was in AVP, and more dedicated to its strengths in the stand alone franchise. Hunter versus Hunter, with some space'd Marines as the sacrificial body count.

 

The worst film of 2018 in my book! an insult to the character and such bad direction, terrible CGI blood, laughable giant predator, an idea that autistic people are the next step in evolution (such an insult to those with Asperg and autism) and horrible script.


I admire Fred Dekker for Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps, Tales from the crypt episodes and House (1985) and Shane Black for his 80s/90s stuff but lately they made terrible comebacks and this one just like Predators and AVP 1 and 2 are hurting the legacy of Predator. To me the last worthwhile Predator movie was 2 and i never get the flack it got as i love Predator 2. Now Fox is hurting Alien as well after Aliens and turning them into jokes. Put this franchise to bed already before you hurt it's legacy.

I recollect an entertaining comment regarding Predator films; they are at their best when it builds up a plot that would make a decent movie in itself, and then all of a sudden the Predator is there. First film, a group of mercenaries rescuing hostages from an insurgent force, that's fine. Next, gang war in Los Angeles, okie-dokie- Surprise, the Predator!

So what one needs to think of, really, is just making a movie without the Predator. But then, the Predator. Fun times.

 

I think AvP is still the only film that made the Predator actually an interesting character. Like, more than just a fun and badass antagonist. Note, I love most of these films, but I think the Predator's "character" is usually the weakest part, even since the og movie.

 

I came upon this following Red letter Media's info on the original Predator design. I saw the Predators movie, but I absolutely do not remember another alien being on that planet... was this in some extended cut?

It’s in the regular cut of the movie. It happens when the main characters go after an alien that they find out is another species that is being hunted on the game preserve. Its dead body is only visible for a couple seconds though.

We shot 3 different endings for #ThePredator, all variations of a “Predator Killer”. This unused ending was Predator Killer Ripley wearing the breather mask we created for the film. You can see her name tag there on her costume. [Stuntwoman] Breanna Watkins played Ripley under the mask instead of Sigourney Weaver. The moving “fingers” and “tail” were deemed too facehugger-like on the day and were cut and removed by someone.

 

Further proof they had no fucking clue what they were doing with this film. Jeeeeeesus H Christ!

 

I wish they explore more about the Yautja in the next movies.

Remember those on set photos of predators riding on tanks with humans using guns? Apparently that was not a joke...

Yep, these so called emissary predators would have helped the army to hunt the big mutant guy, and they would have used much inferior human guns and army camo painted armor instead of invisibility... facepalm.

 

So what's next for Predator films?

 

Now that Disney owns Fox, perhaps our next endeavour is a Predator princess who's slowly grown discontent with the Yautja way of life, and her ritual hunt winds up with her falling in love with a human, all in song. She has a charming (and marketable) mini-Xenomorph sidekick, loving but prejudiced-against-humans parents and a hilarious quirk in that she feels romance must be carried by presenting the honoured with skull-and-spines.

It would be more entertaining then the last movie.

 

Hopefully not a bad comedy again.

Just adapt some of the better DH comics and you'll have a good movie. Many to choose from.

And no more shitty, cartoon CGI. Use practical effects.

 

If I were to make a new Predator movie, I’d take it back to its horror roots and make it much smaller scale. I don’t know if anyone else thinks it’s interesting or not, but I’d love to see a movie where the Predator hunts astronauts on a Mars colony. That would really bring out the same sense of isolation the first one had when they were stuck in the jungle. Then you throw in the fact that damaged space suits would create a lot of tension, and you could even have more of a high tech scientific version of the first film’s finale where they’re crafting whatever weapons they have available to fight this thing.
