It is sad, especially because this is Godzilla with all the stops pulled out, and pacing suited for a western audience. Like, they put everything into this!! I wish it were doing better.

Critics are people. Every person has a right to an (educated) opinion and to express said opinion. I’ve been on these forums for a number of years now. But generally, I just post my thoughts and avoid issues. But, it needs to be said (as a few others have already stated) that the attitudes in this forum are sad and toxic.

I get it - my initial gut reaction is anger when I see someone criticize something I liked. Gotham is one of my favorite shows , and it’s a show that faced significant negative reactions. But guess what? I’m not going to bitch out a critic because that’s just their perspective.

I wish this movie was doing better too. I really enjoyed it. But others didn’t, and that’s okay. Stop hating a group of people and bad-mouthing them (on an anonymous Internet forum they aren’t even on) just because they didn’t like the thing you liked.

Agree! While I did badmouth critics, I also called myself one and am talking in general. My point is I don’t care what critics say about any movie or anything else and other people should try to make up their own minds instead of worrying about what other people say.

Just remember what the film taught us, peeps. Sometimes it can look bad, feel like darkness reigns and monsters ravage the world. Might even feel like your saviour has been lost to a deep ocean.

But even in the greatest storm, there will always come a light to dispel it.

Impeccable as in the highest quality (like Citizen Kane quality)? Or impeccable as in a coherent narrative that had excellent characters you cared about? Because you if you mean perfection, then there isn't any outside of the original film.

If you mean the later, then Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla, GMK, and Godzilla vs Biollante.

OK, we are getting into the subjective and I will try to recollect on your recommendations but as far as I can remember, I usually care about the main character in most Godzilla films, Godzilla. The people are whatever but I do remember there were some where they did alright.

Even I know that Godzilla isn't the main character in most Godzilla movies. Dr. Serizawa and the couple are the protagonists of 1954, the pilot of Mechagodzilla is the protagonist in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, the family and reporter in Godzilla 2000, all off the top of my head. Godzilla shows up mostly as an antagonist or a plot device to fight the monster or otherwise drive the story forward and often has little screentime. Godzilla's an attraction, not a main character in the sense that he gets a lot of the screentime and develops personally over the course of the movie.

I'm not a fan but I have caught on TV all the movies I have mentioned sans G'54 (I saw it on DVD), Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. Destroyah, Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla, both Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla movies and one with a shrieking red dinosaur called something else, G'14, both Godzilla vs. Mothra movies, the one with King Ghidorah and a super long title, King Kong vs. Godzilla (DVD, someone roped me in), Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster (personal favorite) and Godzilla: Final Wars. It's weird how things like this accumulate over time. I did actively seek out some after seeing the 2014 movie because I thought after enjoying it that I might be a Godzilla fan.

Pretty much none of these showed Godzilla as a protagonist.

Ok, I’ve seen every Godzilla movie made and while you are correct there are humans that they sometimes try to push as main characters, Godzilla is always the main character to me.

That you see him as the main attraction changes not the fact that the plot is seen through the eyes of the human characters and said humans receive the films' character development. In those 10+ movies I listed, this is mostly the case. Godzilla cannot be the main character when the film is "pushing" (read: utilizing perspective characters to make it coherent) human characters on you.

Could had been awesome to see Dwayne Johnson in the monsterverse, but unfortunately he's already was in a similar movie.

Humans that I find interesting in Godzilla films
    Dr. Seweriza in 1954
The ape alien leader from the first Mechagodzilla movie
The psychic girl in the Heisei era.
    Mothra's fairies.
The father from Godzilla vs Biollante
    Mafia from Ghidorah's first movie.
The family from Godzilla 2000 also that sorta human bad guy.
The reporter and her father from GMK.
The main girl In the Mechagodzilla/Kiryu movies.
The main alien from Final Wars.

Those are the only ones I can think of only talking about Toho films in terms of American films.
Ken Wannabe, Brayan Cranston, and Charles Dance.

If you count 1998 that French guy. Also Raymond Blurr from the 1955 dub.

The Xilian controller in Final Wars is hilarious. He’s a straight up Saturday morning cartoon villain & I love how cheesy & over the top he is.

I am baffled that this film isn’t doing better business. Like, seriously.

Endgame fallout I guess. The film was so big people are still reeling from its shockwave. Aladdin and KOTM should maybe have released some time after it.

Everyone is talking about universe, universe, universe, and I’m just sitting here thinking, “mate, this lovely community and I will have gotten three faithful, multi million dollar Godzilla movies in our lifetime, one of which featuring three of the most iconic monsters in film, and a kickass giant monster Kong movie. I’d call that an absolute win.” If Godzilla vs Kong does so happen to be the end for the Monsterverse, then so be it; give me a belting bloody conclusion to this titanic ride, and let me see Godzilla kick some giant monkey ass (if which I love), and go out as the undisputed king of all monsters.

And, none of us have any idea of what kinds of conversations are currently being held over at Warner Bros and TOHO studios. The latter could see the reception for King of the Monsters and metaphorically shrug its shoulders, possibly saying, “well, seeing as at this moment in time, two out of the three Monsterverse films have been successful, we would still be willing to renegotiate our deal and allow you to maintain the licenses for these characters, and keep producing more Monsterverse films.” You just never know, anything is possible at this point. We’ll all know for certain closer to, and after Godzilla vs Kong has released.

However, just think: We’re still getting the latter next year, the Godzilla vs Evangelion experience, Toho kickstarting their very own Godzilla cinematic universe a year later in 2021, and RUMORS of a Godzilla vs Kong fighting game potentially being announced at E3. I’d say that’s getting a healthy dose of Godzilla content coming our way very soon. Just sit back, enjoy the ride, go see King of the Monsters again if you really loved it like I personally did and to support it, and wait for Godzilla to tenderize some ape next year.
