Superlink is vastly superior to Energon as a whole, but as a comparative Transformer "Product", it's value is dubious.
    • Superlink, despite coming out first, uses finished animation, while Energon uses temp animation for some reason.
    • Superlink has an entire subplot dealing with some of the core characters that culminates in a late series episode. This subplot is removed for some reason in Energon and the payoff episode is cut out because it didn't have the build up necessary to understand/show it.
    • Superlink doesn't have the painful phrasing, such as the many "uh"s in Energon.
    • Superlink being Japanese, has several Japanese cultural references/occurrences, such as the suffix's -sama, -dono, etc. that pop up as minor plot points that Energon sometimes works well around and sometimes it flat out doesn't know what to do.

That said, I enjoyed Superlink as it aired, though in the long run, it's not a great series. The CGI-animation had some pretty severe limits (to the point where when needed to really emote, the close-ups would be traditional animation instead), and they "ran out" of plot twice in the series. Though in all fairness, running out of plot seems to happen a lot in the Japanese series.

It's not a series I have much desire to re-watch and certainly not a series I'd own on home video, but IMHO, it's not the worst incarnation of the Transformers franchise. It's a product of it's time and when it had a story, was enjoyable.

I say watch it. Yes it is bad in so many ways. If you watch the worst series in the franchise all the other shows you watch wont be as bad.

Which is ironic because the few times they actually used the animation, it was top-notch. If the entire series was animated in that way instead of the CGI, the story still would have sucked but the look of the show would have been spectacular.

I've really enjoyed Galaxy Force, is a complete reboot and has almost no links (pun not intended) to previous series. The story is on the kid-friendly side and it uses a lot and I mean A LOT of stock footage to fill out episodes, but all in all I think it was an enjoyable series for the most part.
